Good job Ken.  Were you giving some good strong verbal commands?  I just want to know which weapon you showed him?  A 1911?  A glock?  I assume if it was the 1911, you might have been concerned it would not go bang......:-)

You know it was a hundred plus year old designed gun TRN....... ;D

Slight update, still working on rear tire carrier. It kinda took a turn as I acquired a couple expensive fuel tanks that are getting mounted to rear tail gate. I ordered new set of tail gate hinges (upgraded units) so waiting on those to finish fuel tank mounts then the tire carrier. Will post some pics later.

So since it turned cold & I started using the heater the blower motor started its squeaking noise again. It did this at the end of last winter, once it warmed up outside & I quit using heat I forgot about it. Doesn't squeak using the ac, so seeing how it is just start of winter figured I should tackle this project.

Ordered up a new blower motor from rock auto $40 ish. Was kinda dreading this as I've done some vehicles in the past & this can be a pain to swap. Anyhow if I didn't have to stand on my head I'd say it was easier than an oil change. Removed glove box (which actually isn't necessary) as it can be accessed from the front passenger footwell. Single snap plug for power & 3 screws it drops right out. Literally a 10 min job, an engineer used his noggin when designing that unit.

Well that doesn't happen every day, way to step up Ken! Almost makes up for that bumper sticker you sport...... ;D

We see them day & night here out my back door but they're probably liberal hippy coyotes & think that's ok.......

The tree hugger types think they are wonderful, local retired po and I had a nice discussion on our neighborhood forum after several ankle biting dogs were attacked in people's back yards. It was his view we just needed to give them more hugs because they were here first. I just listed the diseases they carry & spread as my response. ::)

You talking about furry "Wiley" type, or the ones from Syria, Somalia and Iraq etc.?  If they're true "hippy" coyotes, they're stoned and not too much to worry about - leave a bag of Cheetos opened in the backyard, and they'll move along....... ;D

We have all kinds, didn't you ever hear don't feed the animals?

8013
Shawn,
Your days of happiness livin' in that hood are definately numbered my friend.

You need to come back to your people...

But you'll know when.

BTW that friend of mine is movin along very nicely!

I'm headed there next week, gotta help Mom get stuff sorted out. I agree & about your friend that sounds promising. Be good....

Now this is an interesting turn of events!

Yeah, tell me about it. However, couple things have to play out like I think they will. Part of it is me leaving hippy land and then just the normal work out the details of a new business with a partner. My potential partner is pushing hard......

I was actually approached about a start up doing these swaps in jk's & the newer fj's last week. If a couple things fall in place it may be a go for me for next year. At this point there is still much to be discussed but I'm meeting with the other half next week on this project.

Concealment. Be lucky to deflect a 22 with a door. Newer are better with the side impact doors.

With a car, get behind the block, it also hides your feet.

Also, never hug a wall or fence. Bullets tend to stay within 12in of the wall when they deflect.

Now, have you heard "slicing the pie"?

I have, when you're trying to shoot around cover. Basics of it is to stay back away from cover a few feet. Bad guy on other side sees less of you compared to if you were right up next to it & ducking out from cover to shoot. I'm sure there is a lot better technical way to phrase it but that's my redneck definition! ;)

JR, thanks for reminding me. That's in girls next lesson.... ;D

Also, I dealt with some special Humvee up armored door skins made from a special aluminum type material. It was a prototype & would stop a lot more than a .22 bullet. But JR is right standard car door is very thin.

If I'm working the fire hose flex pants are my go to setup. Thinking I should invest in the knee pads for them at some point.

Loaded up jeep last night with ar's & plywood targets. Took girls about an hour NE to a free shooting range out on the Pawnee national grasslands this morning. Opens at dawn, no range master so if you get there early it's pretty much just you & maybe one or two other old guys. I say old guys because the guys my age or younger only show at 10:30 or after. By then it's usually a steady stream of vehicles headed in the last few miles of washboard dirt roads as I'm leaving. I'm not big on people & like space when it's the girls & I.

We zeroed all the guns at 25 to start & seems my youngest's hammer spring was put in wrong by me. It would dent the primer slightly but no bang. Started by swapping bcg with mine (mine has several K thru it & hers was new spikes). Still no go, pulled upper & worked the hammer. Seemed weak & after closer inspection saw the spring was installed wrong. Leatherman multi tool saved the day again. The girls each put 3-500 rounds down range at various distances. I think I'm out of cheapo steel case now. We worked thru several malfunctions with my oldest. They even learned how to define concealment versus cover. It was a good morning at the range & we left it better than we found it hauling some trash out.

Well just cut up some oak that I got from my dad. About 18 inch diameter. Also cut up about a 14 diameter cedar that I had down.

Shawn it has a 20 inch bar right now. I'll get a 28 to hang on the wall for those rare instances.

This thing freakin rips!!  First pro saw I've ever used and man does it go through 18inches of oak like butter. It sounds awesome. Hearing protection is not optional.

Yeah it's 14.5lbs, so tree climbing with it may not be ideal but I'll keep the little poulan around for the lighter stuff and put a 16 inch bar on it and get a smaller pro saw when that one craps out.

Fair enough, the newer saw I still have is a stihl & it was purchased because the dealer took care of me on all of my other equipment from mowers up to my tractor.

With all of that said & it getting colder here I told the wife tonight after looking at chainsaw porn for this thread that there were several things I missed from our farm. Her response was "your wood stove" & I stated yes but farm stuff was my truck, dump trailer, skid loader & husky saws..... ;D

For what it's worth I used to buy & cut tree tops from timber guys. They would use the skidders and pull the tops out to fields where I could cut them & toss wood into my dump trailer. I ran a similar sized huskie with an 18" bar. I did this with several different outfits over the years and we burnt a lot of wood. The guys were always impressed with how much wood it could chew up. Time is money & if the saw will cut its less hours per day holding on to it.....

If I had to buy a new (all around) saw I would probably go with this one & slap an 18" bar on it. Plenty of power & with an 18" bar should be around 12#'s

Update, I failed to eat any of the Pecan pie. I just decided that I will make myself wait until this weekend to eat it. I discovered this morning that I've lost a few pounds and don't want to reverse said discovery.

Well, I discovered I can't eat very much carb laden foods any longer. So I had a little bit of everything (deep fried turkey was a hit btw) & I saved a little room for a small piece of that pecan pie. It was very good Bobby!

Buy the professional unit

I only kept my smallest saw which was a newer stihl when we moved after selling the farm. Back in the day when huskies were a very good option I bought professional grade only for my big saws. I ran them hard for over 10 years with regular maintenance & they would out cut most. When I sold they brought better than 50% of new cost. What's a $150 to a guy who just writes the check?

Also a good plastic case is worth it imo, my saws were always well cared for & cleaned and kept in those cases.

There are also good forums out there that cover the latest & greatest. Good friend of mine who also hears with wood purchased a modded new makita several years ago & has been very happy. He's quite a bit more frugal than me so take it for what it's worth. The stihls after break in need to be returned to the dealer to be re tuned if you go that route.

Don, I was under the impression that a serial numbered action that starts life registered  as a rifle can not be legally converted to a pistol. This was way back in time when I first started playing with the T/C Contender.

The way I bought my ar receivers they could legally be made into rifles or pistols. It's been awhile & I can't recall how they did it but there was a specific box they checked I believe when I picked them up & did the paperwork.

8048
Turkeys are pretty smart & roost in trees, they may have run them off but I doubt they were decimated by coyotes.
The Coyotes wait around beneath the roost spots, for those big birds to come down.

Was talking just this afternoon to Duane about that. He has been watching coyotes run through his deer killin' area

My reasoning is this, we've had a lot of coyotes for the last 20 years in ne IN. Ever since DNR released them (probably closer to 25-30 years ago actually). 10years back the DNR released wild turkeys 50 mile north of us on state ground. They multiplied and spread south those 50 miles in around 5 years even with the high influx of coyotes. Just my experience with the two.........
