Used guns are better than new ones! They have history, a story worth sharing with loved ones about how you came into their possession. In this case a story of how a man thought enough of a weapon (a tool) that he trusted his life to it. Trusted the lives of his family to it. And finally, how he thought so much of another man, that he would then give that tool to him, so that he could protect his flock. Have no shame in gifting a used firearm. Used guns are the best guns to receive!

Funny you ask, that’s on my list of things to research today. What I know now: Because fed land is in held in public trust, we all have access to it to do the things we enjoy. It is ours, each one of us are public land owners. I think that is a good thing. It’s one of the many things that sets us apart from the lesser countries of the world. My fear is that we (hunters, hikers, atv riders, birdwatchers, etc) will lose access to that land if it it turned over to the state. I have zero faith that a politician wouldn’t start selling off chunks of land in order to balance a state budget. On the other hand, if resources can be extracted from it, without permanently damaging it, and that would make the country more energy dependent, I’m ok with that also.

Are they actually tasty to eat ? I would imagine really tough?

Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
They are delicious. The cleanest, best tasting pork you’ll ever have. Boars are good to eat until they reach sexual maturity. Around here that’s 100-125lbs. The one on those pictures is a young boar that weighed 86lbs if memory serves me right. A sow is good to eat for much longer.
I like this if hogs are the only things I’m looking for. 16” hammer forged BCM, Geissele SSA trigger, Vortex Viper 1-4

Boar hunting, sorry.  What type of yardage are you looking at in most cases? Co working is going on a trip and wants to upgrade his optics from a basic red dot to something more suitable.  I over heard his convo and said I might have some input after consulting you folks

Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
I hunt them in the same woods as I do deer so 25-100 yards is the norm. I’m comfortable toting anything down to 1x. The hard part is that they don’t ever really stop moving unless they’re spooked. If they stop, you’ve only got a couple seconds until they get outta dodge. Also, their vitals sit further forward than those on a deer so a bullet that passes behind the shoulder is most likely through the stomach and they’ll be in the next county before they stop running. For that reason I shoot forward of the shoulder, in the neck, which is a pretty large target. They’re tough, especially in the shoulder area, but a quality 223 bullet will handle the neck shot.

You can see the entry would in this pics. It’s a little low. Ideally it’d be somewhere between the top of the shoulder and the ear.

He was right at 90lbs

Calc III?
Calc 2 intro

The idea is to find the area of one washer ( the basic idea is washer) and it follows the line F(X) with regards to g(x) and the 3 dimensional shape rotating around  the X axis.
Thus finding the volume the washer takes up.  Than add the trig stuff in and who knows what else you can do.  Thanks sir Isaac Newton

Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

Art guy solution: toss washer into known quantity of water and measure the displacement!  All that chicken scratch makes my head hurt!
Firefighter solution: Make a living abusing your body and touching gross stuff. Heck with all that noise.

Good on ya for learning it though Dave. I’m thankful for those that can.

Just this morning, my wife ran across 3 pairs of All American Clothing Company Revelation jeans in my closet that I cannot wear. I seem to have eaten myself into a 36” waist (with sidearm) and these are size 35x36. I was planning on giving them away but before I do I’d like to try something else.

I’ll ship them to a member on this site for free if they agree to make a donation to the single mother we’re helping out this year. No set donation amount, $25, $50, $100, doesn’t matter, just whatever your heart compels you to give. These jeans are made of 100% USA sourced material and every thread assembled and sewn here in the United States. I have several pairs in different styles and they are much better pants than all the Chinese made junk I’ve tried. They are comfortable and wear like iron. The only knock I have against them is that they are a little tighter in the thigh than I like. If you enjoy squats and deadlifts you may feel the same, however, if you think God made pants so we don’t have to go to the gym on leg day then these will be perfect.

What a view Dave. If the wife would go with me I’d move to UT tomorrow.

This afternoon we looked at a 20 acre patch for sale a little further out of town. When we got there a guy and his family were stuck in the field next to the road. They’d come to look at the same property and bit off a little too much for a 2x4 pickup. The F150’s hitch took out a chunk of pavement and we lifted a rear wheel off the ground but we got him snatched out without much trouble. No winch so I’m glad I had a pull rope with me.

Then I worked up some .270 loads using 130gr Barnes TTSX with hopes of trying them out Wednesday. First time loading monolithics so I’m interested to see how they shoot.

Place her in a carrier and place that on top of the clothes dryer and run the dryer. Mimicks the car and soothes the baby.

Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk
A couple times now I’ve used her carrier when she wouldn’t sleep anywhere else. Never thought of putting it on the dryer though.

Is this your first?  My advice would be just go through the motions. Calm mommas freaking out the best you can. You guys will all learn these changes together.  A lot of these formulas have high iron content and will make baby constipated.  We sometimes had to initiate “evacuation” with a q-tip and Vaseline very gently.

Thank you for all of the suggestions. For some reason I didn’t get notifications so I hadn’t checked for replies until now.

Tuesday we had our 8 month checkup. We explained what we had been experiencing and her Dr recommended giving her a mixture of Prune Apple juice and water (1 oz/1oz, once per day). Tuesday and Wednesday were pretty uneventful but yesterday afternoon my wife said she started acting really upset again. I haven’t talked to her since 9pm so I’ll be interested to hear how their night went. Luckily she was spending the day with her parents so she had some help while I was a work.

Looks straight forward enough.

Today we found out there’s another fentanyl laced batch of heroin in north Alabama. 3 overdose calls in less than 24 hours. Two of them occurred while the offender was driving and one of those guys had a stolen pistol in his lap. Fun times.

Our 8 week old baby has developed a case of the can’t help it’s. Unfortunately it started just after I left for work. She’s fed, has a clean/dry diaper and has had a couple different outfits on to rule out itchy clothes and tags. Wife has tried nursing instead of bottle and that didn’t work either. These looks and sounds like mad/painful crying. Wife took her for a ride in the car and as long as my she was driving the baby slept. As soon as they walked in the door she started crying again. The baby has been holding her No. 2s in for days and get fussy after 48 hours or so. Poor thing holds it in until she can’t anymore then has major blowouts. I don’t think that’s the case this time as the blowout was last night.

What are the next steps? Anything you’ve tried that worked when they just can’t seem stop crying?

I still think a reg cab short bed is the best looking truck there is. Sadly, like the girlfriends I had in college, the best looking ones are the least functional.

I’ve been thinking more about the bumper and my desire to keep cost low for the time being. For the time being I may go to the LKQ (pick yourself) salvage yard and see if I can find a factory bumper and 2” receiver hitch. That would give me the ability to tow something if needed while keeping cost low until all the other problems are sorted out. I like the bumper that’s on it now, but I don’t think it will allow the use of a 2” receiver hitch.

That one is an OPT7 brand. I have a couple of them and Dad has had a pair of their pods mounted on his Kawasaki as work lights for 3 years now. So far so good. If you watch them on amazon you can find good deals every once in a while. I bought two 12” bars for $20 each about 6 weeks ago and found the 44”for $40. It’s back up to $125 now though. I figure most of these cheaper light bars are made in the same Chinese factory but at least these are CREE LEDs.

Got to work this little dandy this morning. On a perfectly good road a teenager runs up into someone’s yard, hits their mailbox, and turns their car onto its side. Dad gets there and is livid. At who you’re probably thinking? Well the homeowner obviously since they are at fault. Their mailbox was clearly not the required 3 feet from the backside of the curb. According to him the mailbox had to be at least 10’ from the centerline of the road, unless it was more than 10’ from centerline to the curb, then it had to be 16’ from the centerline, with at least 3 of those being between the mailbox and the curb. He knows this “from experience”.

Then I mounted this guy because why the heck not. It’s a 44” bar from OPT7. Regular price on amazon is $125-145 but I bought it on sale last week for $39.

Gearing is one thing this truck has plenty of. It would probably be a lot better off with a NV4500 but I don’t know if that’s in the cards anytime soon. Although I’d probably be better off trying to find one now rather than later. They’re getting more rare every day. If memory serves me right this truck has 3.73’s. It’s done so hopefully I can pick it up tomorrow and I’ll check for a code sticker. I believe it’s still in there.

I'm these modern times where new trucks approach the cost of a starter home, rebuilding makes so much sense
Reading about your batteries a couple weeks ago is what reminded me that I needed one. Do you leave yours hooked up all the time? Some reviews said it should be unplugged when starting the truck.

Like most of my machines, my 89 Chevrolet is in serious need of some TLC. It spent the first 22 years of its life in Missouri being covered in road salt before moving down south so its a rust bucket. The truck itself is pretty bare bones. 350, 4x4, 6" lift and 35s is about the extent of the fancy stuff. SM465 manual and no power locks, windows or other do dads.

We have an 8 week old that I keep on my off days from the fire dept and I am a tight wad so whatever improvements are made to this thing will take a while.

So, with these tires the truck is 75" wide. The 16' tandem trailer my back yard is 73.5" wide. Once again, I'm about an inch and a half short.

Waiting on the rollback this morning:

First order of business, Brakes. Last December while bleeding the brake lines I had a blow out above the fuel tank. Other than in the parking lot of a trustworthy mechanic, sitting in the driveway is about the best place I can think of to blow a brake line. I ordered a complete new set of stainless lines from Inline Tube and they arrived about 3 days later. That is not a job I can tackle myself at the moment so I am farming it out to my neighbor, along with a steering gearbox replacement. The truck has always had a slight whine coming from the power steering pump but I've burned through 3 power steering pumps in the last 5k miles (7 years). Hopefully the steering box will fix that problem.

As soon as I get it back I have a Sunforce solar charger waiting to keep the Exxide AGM topped off.

Initial List:
Stainless Brake Lines Done
Power Steering Gearbox On standby for now
Windshield Washer Motor Done
Replace/Upgrade Shocks Bilstein 5100 Done
Upgrade Steering stabilizer
A/C (this is Alabama afterall)

I also need to figure out what to do about a rear bumper/hitch option. The previous owner buggered up the mounting holes for the one that is on it so it gets out of whack every so often and has to be adjusted. I dont plan on towing much with this truck but I want the option should the need arise.
