Soldier Up / Re: Coming back from RA« on: May 03, 2024, 06:53:34 PM »
I have severe osteoarthritis in one hip and more not quite severe in a knee and other hip. Tried cortisone injections with limited success. The past 6 months I have had injections of Monovisc in the severe hip and have had some relief. Next will be replacements. I have had good results from keeping my weight down and avoiding sugar any flour.

Everything Trailer, Camper, or RV related / Re: What about a truck camper?« on: February 25, 2024, 08:34:29 PM »
I use my truck camper many weeks a year. I've done 5 weeks with wife and months on my own. Really nice to have the galley and bathroom. My propane fridge failed this year so I am switching to 12v compressor and all solar. Never stay anywhere to plug in. I've been driving 1st gen dodges for over 20 years. Towed an airstream some years. Used a simple canopy many years. This old Bigfoot is a great compact unit for the past few years. Easy to haul and easy to park. I never unload it.

Adventure / Re: Bear Country« on: February 05, 2024, 11:01:09 AM »
I have worked and camped in southeast Alaska and seen plenty of bears, black and brown. I've been in campgrounds that bears frequent. Bear watching guides carried s&w 460 and 500 revolvers. Park rangers carried 12g slug guns or 458 win mag rifles in the field. The 930 sounds good. Now living in northern Alberta. Don't see as many bears but they are always a possibility. Had two blacks in a camp a couple years ago. I have a mossy 500 along with a slug barrel. Try to practice with it from time to time.

All good points for Alucab. Having known Mario for more than 20 years he started his company around 2000. He spent many years in Africa including 3 times to the top of Kilamanjaro. Stands by everything he does. But yeah it's far from you so extra hassle and expense.

Another trip to AZ in the w350. Must be close to 450,000 miles now. Kept track of one tank with GPS and got 18.6 mpg. Loaded right at max weight as per door tag. Best ever with this truck was with a canopy and kayak on the roof. 27.95 mpg southbound on I5. Speed under 60 all the way.

A couple friends have bees. They use a hand crank centrifuge to get the honey out or the hive. We get a batch of bicuits going in the oven and when they come out we hold them under the trickle of honey coming from the centrifuge. Fun day..

1990 w350. The odometer quit at 417,776 about 6 years ago. It's had a water pump, an alternator and a starter. Still starts at the tap of the key and gets well over 20 mpg. Could use injectors and an exhaust but no hurry... My backup vehicle is a 1990 w250 with about 180,000. All original. I expect another trouble free 250,00 from it.

In Palisade, Colorado is Dan Dowling. He has a reputation for being one of the top accuracy/precision gunsmiths around. And a great guy. He may be retired but if not you can't go wrong with his work. He did a 6.5 Lapua for me and a 6PPC for a friend.

D.O.T. / northern trucks« on: March 02, 2016, 08:12:07 PM »
Up here in Alberta I've started looking for a truck to keep here. I've been driving a 1990 w350 for more years than I can count now and would like to keep it at my place in WA and have a second truck up here. Interesting things turn up here. Found an unusual rig the seller calls a 1993 but it has an early non intercooled 12 valve and a dually that looks to be from a cab/chassis truck. About 4500-5000 usd . Then along comes a 2003 Dodge dually with about 180,000 miles. The guy wants about 6000 usd. Nice rig and great to drive but too much computer stuff for my taste. Today I was offeerd a 2004 Duramax LLY for 4500 usd. I know nothing about Duramax. Fun looking. I'm most interested in another 12 valve 1st gen truck.
