So my main #1 AR is this Colt 6720R.
The only thing I don't like about it is the rail is heavy and defeats the purpose of the weight savings on the rest of the gun. It comes factory with a pencil barrel and I've been trying to keep the weight down with the Aimpoint T1. The tan rifle in this pic is an 80% lower I built up from scratch with this sweet Odin works key mod rail. Which no kidding is close to a half pound lighter
I've been thinking about swapping rails but I will have to dismantle the Colt, pull the gas block and tube, flash hider off, barrel nut, etc to do it.
I don't want to mess up the reliability of the gun and I've never taken off a pinned gas block before.
Any advice. Can you re use the pins when you take them out of the block?
Should I just leave it alone? When I built the tan gun I had it all cerakoted the flat dark earth color and I realize the colors will not match but I usually get bored and end up painting my guns anyway. But the tan rifle will never look the same if I take the rail off.
And it looks good right now lol.
Laid off right now so buying a new rail is not in the cards at the moment.
