Quick update; we have gotten several sponsor letters and checks (15 I think) so that will take care of a good part of the price of putting on the event ( medals,  T shirts, water, fruit and official time keeper). Starting to all come together which is a good thing. Krysten is hoping to give out more scholarship or larger ones.

That was 5 years ago and on 18 May we will be having our 5th 5K in Seminole Oklahoma. Each year it has had more people attened, donate/support. This year one of the guys that was with Brett when he was killed has become a Army NG chopper pilot and is working to do a fly over (sorry Don Ithink that it will be in Blackhawks). Krysten has got the sponser letter sent out in is already working on the design for this years t-shirt. Last year several of members of the unit that Brett was in had been deployed they signed up on line and ran the 5K in the AOR.

With all that said I hope you enjoy this build thread for a 5 K run to honor a young man
BlackHawks or not, that is one honorable and cool thing to have happen. Congrats on pulling all this off, and my sincere condolences for your unfathomable loss.

I could donate a signed copy of my book as a door prize if you'd like...
Don, Thank you for the offer I will ask the boss (Krysten) if she would like to do that and let you know

Sept 9 2011 we lost our hero in Afghanistan do to small arms fire when people from that coutry attacked his unit.

https://thefallen.militarytimes.com/army-sgt-bret-d-isenhower/6567969

The town that he grew up in Seminole Oklahoma has done many things to honor his memory and I just wanted to share. My step daughter Krysten wanted to do something to honor her brother and to keep him alive in people memorries and to remind them that freedom is not free. Brett loved to run which he did a lot. One New Year eve he and his Frat brother ran a relay from Seminole to Ada (30 miles) oh and it was about 15 deg outside all because someone said they couldn't do it. After the 1st year with out him Krysten took up running is started off with running around town but each run got longer and longer, she now has 5 marathons, 3 half and several 5K under her belt. She feels that Brett along with the Holy Spirt talks to her on these runs and gives her directions for her like along with great comfort. She and Brett had one of the best relationship that I have ever seen between a brother and sister. Well on one of these runs she got the idea of starting a 5 K run and the money would go to set up a scholarship  in Brett's name at the high school that they both graduated from. This plan started in Dec and she wanted the run to be the weekend before Memorial day! I'm here to tell you that she pulled it off, she got the city to block off roads that the runners would be on, a promotion company with timer so that it is a qualifing race for marathoners, sponsers, T shirts and medals. Never underestimate the drive of a young lady that loved her brother.

Because sometime we just need to hear a good story.
Earlier this week a young man that had been in our church from the time he was conceived now he is married and has 2 kids of his own. He hadn't been feeling well for a few months so he went to a doctor and they did and MRI and told him that it looked like pancreatic cancer and scheduled him to see an oncologist on Friday, by the way he has had 2 family members I know of that have died of pancreatic cancer. Getting into see a specialist with in a week is kind of rare I think. There had been many Prayers said for him, well he gets to see the oncolgist on Friday and after all the test the doctor ask him if he believes in miracle and he said yes! The doctor said you should, "I don't know what your people did but there is no sign of cancer like the test showed from you doctor"

Praise God!

Real - men don't need no recoil pad. Get rid of that and go with a good steel butt plate so you can end up with a shoulder that looked like mine after shooting mine. LOL

Good looking rifle, I have 2 45/70 rifles and love both just not the bruised shoulder
I'll have you know, it's your fault I got that darn thing. Shame on you for posting up pics!!

Shawn, I had a choice between the Marlin and Henry. The henry action was tighter, and the machining a little more precise, and nicer furniture imo.
I liked the Marlin lever/handle better, and also the gated magazine...just something weird about loading a rifle with your hand over the muzzle that seems "off". lol

Hey now you guys said I had to post pictures. "It is the rules" and all LOL

Yup. The 460 has a decent pad. IIRC 117grn RL15 and 400 gr Barnes TSX

About $6 a round

Thats a nice looking gun and round.

Never shot a 460wby but I would say that the 45 70 isn't a round you go shot several 100 rounds in a weekend.

I know the loads probably weren?t as heavy but think about those old timers who used to hunt buffalo for skins. Recall that scene in dances with wolves?

That is what I was think 20 rounds did that what would it look like if I shot all day long!

Those are some impressive looking numbers for that big of a round. At the range the 1st few rounds I shot everyone kind of stopped and looked

Whats with all the fur? Heck thats not bad, didn't even break the skin.

I like the finish also, my 30-30 has a similar finish.

Real men grow hair on their chest! LOL I still have full range of motion of my arm. What gets me is I also have a Henery Golden big boy in 45 70 and shooting it didn't cause any kind of mark. Not sure if it is the brass vs harden reciever or that the barrel is 2 inches longer on the winchester or both that caused it to kick more.

That?s a nice looking rifle, I like the wood & the discoloring of the action

Do you know if that will handle the hot bear loads? After viewing the picture of your shoulder it got me thinking about the bear loads I bought but never shot for our trip up north last summer.

Thanks, the wood and case harded reciver is why I always loved and wanted that rifle. I credit my grandfather with my love of hunting, fishing and outdoors. Not sure what a hot bear load is but that is from 49 grains of powder with a 350 grain hollow point sitting on top.

Growing up my grandfather had a several diffrent guns but the one I loved was his Winchester 1886 which my cousin got after he passed and sold for drug money some years later  Well when Winchester said they would make a reproduction of it I went to my LGS and placed one on order. Winchester was some what off on when they would be produced, I waited 2 1/2 years but it did come in. I don't like waiting! Took it out and shot 20 round of 45 70 now my right shoulder is black, blue and red but was total worth the wait. I guess that steel butt plate and 45 70 round was made for someone with no feeling in their shoulder or back in the day those guys shoulders could take a bunch more pounding

And all that is why I will not accept a mangement possition. I did my time in mangement in the Air Force. Had to sit down and teach a 19 year old kid how to keep track of a check book because he was looking at getting kick out because he would always overdraft his check book. Best thing anyone told me was my E9 telling me that I was not political correct to make E9

Not sure about staying any place (kind of wish Wright Patterson was near) but the wife isn't much of a fan of camping. Her roughing it would be a Hoilday Inn! Teenage boys should work fine Meth head 45 ACP works better. Taser are great but some people can fight through the shock and still keep going. Good side the X26 can shot the probs or you can remove the cartridge and contact shock the person. Bad side I have had to fight 2 guys that when I shot them one of the wires came off the probs and with out both in the guy no shocking effect. Just always have a back up plan. Please check local laws some places have laws about joe blow having police type equipment but in my book it is better to be judged by 12 in place of carried by 6

well you guys made off better than I, 102 fever for the last few days so I was in isolation (I'm blaming the flu shot I got last week. Kids and grandkids came down yesterday opened presents, went to the in-laws for dinner and dirty Santa for the adults. I on the other hand stayed in bed. Kids and grandkids came by to say good bye and headed home. Wife came home fell asleep in the livingroom and I went to bed didn't make it to midnight church service. Got up this morning cooked 3 turkeys, de-boned them and took them to our little towns comunity center and the wife helped serve and Ireturned home because of my fever.
