Ok, so I’ve been itching for a small shop lathe. I had a large Warner swasey engine lathe in my first shop years ago. At present time I don’t have space or need for that monstrosity & capability.
What I really wanted is a south bend heavy 10. I can find quite a few on the east coast and not much here local for sale. My requirements were 10inch swing min x 20-40 inch min work space between uprights with threading capability & single phase power. Good V ways were also a requirement. I wanted something that has been taken care of because I have enough projects. I am not looking at Mathews precision or grizzly as there are plenty of American made pieces in the small tool room size type of lathe of vintage heritage. Most of these the parts are available or can be made to fix just about anything on them. Then there was Ken’s issue that I do not want a repeat of either. Honestly, Ken’s issue wasn’t a factor in any way but giving him grief is always fun. I wanted American steel & structural rigidity. Unlike the American mills you can find vintage small American lathe units in good shape.
So after searching for a heavy 10 for some time I stumbled upon a Logan 10 x 36 in use. The Logan is a heavy machine at around 800# and by all rights comparable to the SB H10. It has a new motor on it with a few other things being touched up recently. It has a 24” bed on it now which was a new replacement part that this owner was able to find and install. Yeah, wish it was the full 36 but realistically I probably do not need more than 24” of work space.
The downside, it’s three hours up into the Rockies to inspect it, so after much discussion & back and forth I am headed there tomorrow with trailer in tow.

Ok, so this conversation below happened on text today between Mike and I. You may recall he is one I have had you pray for through some extremely invasive surgeries and he was also the one who I sold then bought a business from. I believe I had stated he was raised Catholic but was not practicing, leading up to this huge surgery I spoke with him several times. His wife even confided in me and told me to keep pushing. My current local pastor once said faith is like growing crops, you plant it and let God do the rest. So after considering this exchange for awhile today I decided we needed a new thread. One that can highlight those crops and how they grow. So please if you have a testimony share it here, I'll start off with the exchange with Mike today. Back story, Mike has flipped cars for years to make income, at present time it is his only source currently. He has been through a lot, in last few years. At times I was and have been very frustrated with him. In other words it's been very tough being his friend and watching him stumble and get tossed around. I know I've had conversations with my wife about what to do or how I can do more. Hind sight is always 20/20 and I guess the biggest thing was just being there to listen and give him my take. Patience has never been easy for me, looking back I witness the Lord working to make me be more patient and even though I have been given this lesson more than once I'm hard headed in this regard. So below is our conversation from today, these seeds appear to be bearing some fruit. "..Something strange. Yesterday I found I had a $50 dollar bill, a $10 and a couples $1s. That was it and i couldnt get my medicine. As a rarity I prayed for help. Both vehicles sold today within 1 hour by very religious people that told me about their faith. Amazing how things workout." My response, That's called a testimonial, how cool!  "We grow thru the tough times." My response, Sure do, I'm glad you had that experience "Since I'm not able to do much I read a lot. I decided last week that I've spent my whole life judging a book negatively that I've never read. I dug my mother's old bible out of the attic and I'm gonna start reading it." My response, Start with the New Testament Read that then go back and study the old. You might want to try county line church too, no judging there and Kruse is a great pastor "Ok. I'll have to check out which I have. We have a couple around the house of Dawn's." My response, If I can help let me know "I'll keep that in mind too. Ok thanks."

I’ve had two so far in the last two weeks. Neither would tell me who was paying the tab although the first was definitely Jared Polis Dem or a pac for him to get elected. I made sure they knew I thought he was a DA & would not be voting for him.
The second was more discreet, I still tend to believe it was a Dem organization due to the funding questions of certain programs.
I don’t recall them starting this early in the year on a mid term of all years. Thinking the D’s are worried about their chances in Nov.
Also worth noting, in the past especially in 2008 I lied every time they called and told them I was voting party line D. I guess I don’t feel the need to lie as much this time around. They suck, have even worse candidates then last time and look to be driving themselves off the liberal cliff.

So I stumbled across this, amazingly the issue is identical to what I have described to the service tech at Ford. Also note this is the third time my truck has been to their shop. First time it had a fuel injection flush using BJ products. Second time it had both fuel pumps replaced under warranty. It has been doing this intermittently for the last 8k. I will be sending them this video tomorrow morning. I will report back what I find. So read the article, couple things stand out. First DeBeers owned the diamond market & with a great marketing campaign made everyone believe diamonds were worth their salt. I think the case can be made they were not. Second this article states that it will take a machine to tell the difference between a real & lab grown diamond. I believe that eventually this will undermine the value of the real albeit over priced diamonds. With all this stated I believe my daughters should not allow their future husbands to go broke for a high dollar wedding ring. Ok, so those of you who know me are aware that I sold in 2015 this company I started back in 2002. I did so in part to make the move to Colorado easier or to make the transition go smoother. The other part was that I needed a break. I had been the GM over a large laser fabrication shop for 16 years and that in of itself was a 7 day a week 24 hour gig. I then started GLO and my wife and I ran that while she went through nursing school. As if that wasn’t enough we had a small real estate development (more of a holding co really) company and our farm which I contracted out. So that’s the back story really.
In Jan of 15 I sold the company to Mike a good friend who I was in business with prior on another venture. You may recognize him as someone whom I’ve asked you to pray for in the past. Since he bought GLO he has had some major medical hurdles. It has gotten to the point where the company is too much and something had to give. So Mike called me and explained the situation. It wasn’t something he wanted to do and with everything he has going on his hand was forced, back against a wall situation.
In the past three years I did what I do & started a steel brokerage company. It’s small but we have a few clients here on the front range we service regularly. It doesn’t keep me near as busy as I used to be but it’s flexible and allows me to be around for my teenage daughters. For the record when they were young I was not around. I was in fact a workaholic for lack of a better definition. If there was an opportunity in business I went for it. Family was not my priority and well let’s just say I have changed in that regards.
So as of last Friday my brokerage company bought the remaining assets of GLO from Mike. The plan is to revamp the business I sold and rebuild it. It compliments my steel brokerage side of things and with the help of some very smart individuals I will undertake this opportunity over the next few months. I wanted it to be announced here first as you guys are like family.
So if you would say a prayer that this acquisition & transition goes smoothly for all parties involved I would appreciate it. Thank you, ST

OK, so I'll quit DOTing up Ken's thread since I went a different direction and bought this versus a Grizzly. As I stated around the forum some things have cropped up in my life throwing wrenches into the mix. It's all business and nothing personal so no worries there. I will be detailing that in another thread here in the next week or two. I have been considering a smaller benchtop mill ever since I sold my 2HP Bridgeport. I had that mill for a good 13 years prior to the move to Colorado in 2015. At around 2000# it was just too large for me to move easily by myself. In the meantime I have been making due with a Powermatic Model 1200 with reversible 1hp motor and an aftermarket mill table which I will now be offloading (just the mill table not the drill press). It has been worked hard over the years and it has always been a great drill press. I've had two different motors on it over the years and the current one was rebuilt maybe ten years back. So last night like every night for the past week I have been digging thru specifications on these Taiwanese built bench top mills. Last night I was going over the independent reviews on a couple of Grizzly units when someone mention Matthews Precision. So I started looking & unfortunately the selections of models they had in stock were few and far between. I would like to have had a unit with DRO already installed (I have enough projects currently on my plate) and those were all sold out at the moment with an 8 week lead time before the next ship arrives. My current time frame to get it up and running is 3 weeks roughly. This morning I called MP and spoke with a nice young lady and asked quite a few questions. By the time I was done I decided to order the the unit as stated in the title of the thread. Couple things that sold me was the substantially larger Y movement and the table work height was taller. I'm 6'3" so that extra 1 inch is helpful. The overall weight of the machine is impressive with a cast base that is 350# alone that they include in the price and recommend for stability. Rational, controlled men that when confronted with a situation do their best in the eyes of all to give a measured response to whatever the situation calls for. So I haven’t bought one yet. Looking for thoughts on this from the long range guys here as I’m not in that category really. I have a local place I have trained with who have classes on the subject. Thinking this might be a reasonably priced starter option. I currently own an SR-25 so the interchangeability of mags and ammo obviously peaked my interest. I’m hoping being a southpaw that Ruger at some point elects to build a left hand unit. Technically her name is Lucy and no we didn't choose it she came to us with that name at nine weeks old roughly. She is currently 18 months old and is a registered golden retriever. A nice family of four purchased her a little over a year ago and decided that she wasn't for them. They had an ad up on a local board right before Christmas 2016 trying to get rid of her. I wasn't up for dishing out a bunch of money for someone else's pick of the liter however we had one 8 year old golden and with me working from home it just worked out that we ended up with her. She's a sweet puppy but has an alternate personality which we nick named Lucifer and it is fitting. Here she is today while I'm working on her new ivory palace. Note, I'm sure she is not asleep but recovering from the last thing she decided to chew or dig up and quite possibly planning my demise. Don't let her fool you she can be a reign of terror.  So last year she destroyed our small back yard. I had to place guards around our young trees and the stone weed guard is a favorite for her to pull up and drag all over the place as she shreds it. So the wife and I had enough by last fall and wanted our back yard, deck and hot tub area back. So I started building this last fall and essentially got the rough structure in place. The roof line isn't quite level as I used the existing fence as the back or upper mount for the roof. I pulled up the sod and laid down chain link fence first to keep digging to a minimum then added stone over it. Today I built the front wire fence panels, both ends are removable. On the left end I need to build them a patio of sorts to sun themselves and give them a place to lay which is not on the stones, maybe add a dog house once it turns cold again. The covered portion is roughly 5 foot x 18 foot with another 5 foot of fenced in patio to be added. This will allow us to not have to board them on long weekend trips (neighbor boy will assist) as well as keeping our backyard intact.
