Our Pro-Military, Veteran, and Thin Blue Line place / America
« on: June 14, 2020, 11:05:32 AM »
JFK'S Secretary of State, Dean Rusk, was in France in the early 60's when DeGaulle decided to pull out of NATO. DeGaulle said he wanted all US military out of France as soon as possible. Rusk responded, "Does that include those who are buried here?"
DeGaulle did not respond. You could have heard a pin drop.
When in England, at a fairly large conference, Colin Powell was asked by the Archbishop of Canterbury if our plans for Iraq were just an example of 'empire building' by George Bush.
He answered by saying, "Over the years, the United States has sent many of Its fine young men and women into great peril to fight for freedom beyond our borders. The only amount of land we have ever asked for In return is enough to bury those that did not
return."
You could have heard a pin drop.
There was a conference in France where a number of international engineers were taking part, including French and American. During a break, One of the French engineers came back into the room saying, "Have you heard the latest dumb stunt Bush has done? He has sent an aircraft carrier to Indonesia to help the tsunami victims. What does he intend to do, bomb them?" A Boeing engineer stood up and replied quietly: "Our carriers have three hospitals on board that can treat several hundred people; they are nuclear powered and can supply emergency electrical power to
shore facilities; they have three cafeterias with the capacity to feed 3,000 people three meals a day, they can produce several thousand gallons of fresh water from sea water each day, and they carry half a dozen helicopters for use in transporting victims and injured to and from their flight deck. We have eleven such ships. How many does France have?"
You Could have heard a pin drop.
A U.S. Navy admiral was attending a naval conference that included admirals from the U.S., English, Canadian, Australian and French
navies at a cocktail reception. He found himself standing with a large group of officers that included personnel from most of those countries. Everyone was chatting away in English as they sipped their drinks when a
French admiral suddenly complained that, whereas Europeans learn many languages, Americans learn only English. He then asked, "Why is it that we always have to speak English in these conferences rather than
speaking French?" Without hesitating, the American admiral replied, "Maybe it's because the Brit's, Canadians, Aussie's and Americans arranged it so you wouldn't have to speak German."
You could have heard a pin drop.
AND THIS STORY FITS RIGHT IN WITH THE ABOVE...
Robert Whiting, an elderly gentleman of 83, arrived in Paris by plane. At French customs, he took a few minutes to locate his passport in his carry on. "You have been to France before, monsieur?" the customs officer asked
sarcastically. Mr. Whiting admitted that he had been to France previously. "Then you should know enough to have your passport ready." The American said, "The last time I was here, I didn't have to show it." "Impossible. Americans always have to show their passports on arrival in France !" The American senior gave the Frenchman a long hard look. Then he quietly explained, ''Well, when I came ashore at Omaha Beach on D-Day in 1944 to help liberate this country, I couldn't find a single Frenchmen to show a passport to."
You could have heard a pin drop.
If You are proud to be an American, pass this on! If not, delete it. I am proud to be an American!

Ok, so I currently have an Eaton compressor on a 60 gal tank. It’s 5 hp motor and it’s rated 18cfm at 100 psi. I have another 60 gallon tank with compressor mount I picked up for $50 and then another 120 gallon storage tank for $200 so 240 gallon total storage. I’m considering another compressor on the 60 gallon tank and plumbing all three together. Prices are listed below for motor and compressor. Was originally thinking an identical setup to what I have. Recall I’m cheap so less is sometimes better but getting ready to setup a cabinet I have to do axle housings and parts. I am by no means a blasting expert. I don’t use much shop air other than for blasting. Thoughts?

5hp @ 18 cfm @ 100 psi $800
7.5hp @ 26 cfm @ 100 psi $1050
10hp @ 43 cfm @ 100 psi $1500

There will be a little truck freight on top of those prices in addition.

Anyone have experience with this? No it’s not for pot, wife wants to start growing herbs etc for our meals.

She keeps sending me this link but thinking I can put a setup together much larger for a 1/3rd the price.

Everything Trailer, Camper, or RV related / GLO Shop Trailer Build
« on: March 23, 2020, 09:06:37 PM »
Pulled trigger on building a car hauler trailer for the shop today.

Had been acquiring “things” when a good deal come around for some time now. Picked up a set of 7200# axles from Farmer Jon last summer which Nate so kindly delivered. Purchased over a ton of 3x3 1/4 angle out of the back of a Kohl’s Dept store they moved for $200 and today I picked up a set of Chevy truck rims and crappy tires for $100 to fit those axles. Tires will get updated in the future as will the wheel bearings, seals and brakes on the axles prior to use.

I then ordered new 3 20’ lengths of c6 and a single length of c3 channel for the frame along with some trailer parts to hang axles.

Shooting for 22-24’ deck with dovetail and removable ramps and pintle hitch. Probably use some tube in shop and bend up drive over fenders. Should see rest of the steel by end of week. In meantime going to start fabricating the 3x3 x1/4 angle into a heavy C shape for the upper frame structure, the c6 will be lower frame and tongue. The single piece of c3 will most likely be ramp material.

Build Threads / 2010 F350 Extended Cab Cummins 24V Swap
« on: January 27, 2020, 06:23:37 PM »

OK, so not technically starting this just yet. I really was not looking to buy a truck for a couple months but had been watching this one for about a month and a half. Last Friday they dropped the price again and it was too good to let it pass. I made an offer and several hours later they called back and we negotiated the sale price which I paid this morning. Yes, there are much nicer configured trucks but I need a work truck and more bells and whistles really aren't my thing anyhow. The truck is a 2010 F350 XL 4x4 Auto W/ 6.4L Diesel 3.73 gears. Has manual 4x4, AC, rubber floor liner and cloth, fairly clean on the inside and even has a radio. The bed is missing a tailgate and the one big dent is drivers side of bed just behind cab. The unit has 170K on the clock and the last two owners have lost money on this unit. It does run and move on its own accord but has a low engine knock just starting, plan is to video motor running and pull it then sell as a buildable replacement unit.

So the plan is to acquire the circa 2000 24V from Ken (low mileage 130K I think he stated) that he has been stowing away for some time now. Baylee and I are going to pick it up weekend after this coming one on way back home from KOH. It is missing some parts to make it run but think we can address that issue w/o much problem.

So I was in Indiana today and some of you are aware and some are not my Dad passed away day after Thanksgiving.

After the graveside service this morning I had lunch with my remaining aunt and two cousins. On that side of the family those are the reunions. Back story is my grandad was a very wealthy business man and large land owner. He was the tri state fertilizer and seed dealer back in the day so everyone knew him. My dad had hauled and delivered tons of product with an old 1.5 ton ford growing up. As a vehicle “guy” and last with the family Teegardin name I was interested in where this truck had gone. I assumed it was still in the family as I recall it being acquired by someone after his passing so I asked.

Photo is not of actual truck as I haven’t laid eyes upon it in over twenty years. It is currently painted black as in the photo I was told. It is currently running as “some work” was just performed on it last year. When I last saw it after my grandpa fully restored it (in around 1990) it was a dark hunter green. My aunt and her husband have it in their possession and she gave me her word when it comes time to pass it on it will go to me. They only have one daughter and she will not want it. It is powered by a flat head v8. Thought I would share, if and when I receive possession I will update this post. Interesting note my Dad was born the year granddad purchased this truck.

Ok, so crawler project coming up. I have a body that I’m going to do some cutting and stretching on in a couple places. Thinking chemical stripper would be way to go on this as body is straight so no extensive whole body work and it’s going to get bed lined afterwards since it’s a crawler. I’m thinking since paint is solid just stripping it where I’m working versus whole car sand blast job and guys can screw up sheet metal pretty easy if not careful with blasting.

What product do you recommend or have you used with good results?

Coffee Induced Early Morning Rant / Interesting Fact
« on: November 14, 2019, 07:46:39 PM »
During the 3-1/2 years of World War 2 that started with the Japanese bombing of Pearl Harbor in December 1941 and ended with the Surrender of Germany and Japan in 1945, "The People of the U.S.A."  produced the following:
22 aircraft carriers,
8 battleships,
48 cruisers,
349 destroyers,
420 destroyer escorts,
203 submarines,
34 million tons of merchant ships,
100,000 fighter aircraft,
98,000 bombers,
24,000 transport aircraft,
58,000 training aircraft,
93,000 tanks,
257,000 artillery pieces,
105,000 mortars,
3,000,000 machine guns, and
2,500,000 military trucks.
We put 16.1 million men in uniform in the various armed services, invaded Africa, invaded Sicily and Italy, won the battle for the Atlantic, planned and executed D-Day, marched across the Pacific and Europe, developed the atomic bomb, and ultimately conquered Japan and Germany.

It's worth noting, that during the almost exact amount of time, the Obama Administration couldn't even build a web site that worked.

Humor, Good Stuff, and Red Neck Practices! / Archery
« on: October 25, 2019, 07:31:19 PM »
Around age 10 my dad got me one of those little badass compound bow beginner kits.  Of course, the first month I went around our land sticking arrows in anything that could get stuck by an arrow.  Did you know that a 1955 40 horse Farmall tractor tire will take 6 rounds before it goes down?  Tough sumbich.
That got boring, so being the 10 yr. old Dukes of Hazard fan that I was, I quickly advanced to taking strips of cut up T-shirt doused in chainsaw gas tied around the end and was sending flaming arrows all over the place.  One summer afternoon, I was shooting flaming arrows into a large rotten oak stump in our backyard.  I looked over under the carport and see a shiny brand new can of starting fluid (Ether). The light bulb went off in my head.
I grabbed the can and set it on the stump.  I thought that it would probably just spray out in a disappointing manner.  Lets face it, to a 10 yr old mouth-breather like myself, (Ether), really doesn't "sound" flammable.
So, I went back into the house and got a 1 pound can of Pyrodex (black powder for muzzle loader rifles).
At this point, I set the can of ether on the stump and opened up the can of black powder.  My intentions were to sprinkle a little bit around the (Ether) can but it all sorta dumped out on me.  No biggie, a 1 lb. Pyrodex and 16 oz (Ether) should make a loud pop, kinda like a firecracker you know?
You know what?  Screw that I'm going back in the house for the other can.
Yes, I got a second can of pyrodex and dumped it too.  Now we're cookin'.
I stepped back about 15 ft and lit the 2 stroke arrow.  I drew the nock to my cheek and took aim.  As I released I heard a clunk as the arrow launched from my bow.  In a slow motion time frame, I turned to see my dad getting out of the truck...OH crap!  He just got home from work.  So help me God it took 10 minutes for that arrow to go from my bow to the can.  My dad was walking towards me in slow motion with a WTF look in his eyes.  I turned back towards my target just in time to see the arrow pierce the starting fluid can right at the bottom.  Right through the main pile of Pyrodex and into the can.
 Oh crap.
When the shock wave hit it knocked me off my feet.  I don't know if it was the actual compression wave that threw me back or just reflex jerk back from 235 fricking decibels of sound.  I caught a half a millisecond glimpse of the violence during the initial explosion and I will tell you there was dust, grass, and bugs all hovering 1 ft above the ground as far as I could see.  It was like a little low to the ground layer of dust fog full of grasshoppers, spiders, and a worm or two.
The daylight turned purple.  Let me repeat this...  THE FRICKING DAYLIGHT TURNED PURPLE.
There was a big sweetgum tree out by the gate going into the pasture.
Notice I said "was".  That son-of-a-bitch got up and ran off.
So here I am, on the ground blown completely out of my shoes with my Thundercats T-Shirt shredded, my dad is on the other side of the carport having what I can only assume is a Vietnam flashback:
ECHO BRAVO CHARLIE YOU'RE BRINGIN' EM IN TOO CLOSE!! CEASE FIRE.  DAMNIT CEASE FIRE!!!!!
His hat has blown off and is 30 ft. behind him in the driveway.  All windows on the north side of the house are blown out and there is a slow rolling mushroom cloud about 2000 ft. over our backyard.  There is a Honda 185 3 wheeler parked on the other side of the yard and the fenders are drooped down and are now touching the tires.
I wish I knew what I said to my dad at this moment.  I don't know – I know I said something.  I couldn't hear.  I couldn't hear inside my own head.  I don't think he heard me either... not that it would really matter. I don't remember much from this point on.  I said something, felt a sharp pain, and then woke up later.  I felt a sharp pain, blacked out, woke later....repeat this process for an hour or so and you get the idea.  I remember at one point my mom had to give me CPR. and Dad screaming "Bring Him back to life so I can kill him again".  Thanks Mom.
One thing is for sure...  I never had to mow around that stump again, Mom had been bitching about that thing for years and dad never did anything about it. I stepped up to the plate and handled business.
Dad sold his muzzle loader a week or so later.  I still have some sort of bone growth abnormality, either from the blast or the beating, or both.
I guess what I'm trying to say is, get your kids into archery.  It's good discipline and will teach them skills they can use later on in life.

Parenting / Winnie the Pooh
« on: September 29, 2019, 12:29:51 AM »
I found this article very interesting. If this is not the correct place please move it.

It occurred to Pooh and Piglet that they hadn't heard from Eeyore for several days, so they put on their hats and coats and trotted across the Hundred Acre Wood to Eeyore's stick house. Inside the house was Eeyore.

"Hello Eeyore," said Pooh.

"Hello Pooh. Hello Piglet," said Eeyore, in a Glum Sounding Voice.

"We just thought we'd check in on you," said Piglet, "because we hadn't heard from you, and so we wanted to know if you were okay."

Eeyore was silent for a moment. "Am I okay?" he asked, eventually. "Well, I don't know, to be honest. Are any of us really okay? That's what I ask myself. All I can tell you, Pooh and Piglet, is that right now I feel really rather Sad, and Alone, and Not Much Fun To Be Around At All. Which is why I haven't bothered you. Because you wouldn't want to waste your time hanging out with someone who is Sad, and Alone, and Not Much Fun To Be Around At All, would you now."

Pooh looked at Piglet, and Piglet looked at Pooh, and they both sat down, one on either side of Eeyore in his stick house.

Eeyore looked at them in surprise. "What are you doing?"

"We're sitting here with you," said Pooh, "because we are your friends. And true friends don't care if someone is feeling Sad, or Alone, or Not Much Fun To Be Around At All. True friends are there for you anyway. And so here we are."

"Oh," said Eeyore. "Oh." And the three of them sat there in silence, and while Pooh and Piglet said nothing at all; somehow, almost imperceptibly, Eeyore started to feel a very tiny little bit better.

Because Pooh and Piglet were There.

No more; no less.

(A.A. Milne, E.H. Shepard)

September is National Suicide Prevention Month.
.
.
.
.
It should be noted that Winnie the Pooh was written by Milne to explain war (he was a WWI & WWII veteran) and its effects to his son, Christopher, and perhaps himself (this scene relating to PTSD).

"The demons of war followed Milne throughout his life. It was noted that when Christopher was little, Alan terrified him when he confused a swarm of buzzing bees with whizzing bullets. The popping of balloons sent him ducking for cover. Milne knew of only one way to explain to his son what was happening — through his writing. A.A. Milne started writing a collection of short stories entitled Winnie-the-Pooh.

It's been theorized by Dr. Sarah Shea that Milne wrote into each character of Winnie-the-Pooh a different psychological disorder. While only A. A. Milne could tell us for certain, Dr. Shea's theory seems pointed in the right direction, but may be a little too impersonal. After all, the book was written specifically for one child, by name, and features the stuffed animals that the boy loved.

It's more likely, in my opinion, that the stories were a way for Milne to explain his own post-traumatic stress to his six-year-old son. Every stuffed friend in the Hundred Acre Woods is a child-friendly representation of a characteristic of post-traumatic stress. Piglet is paranoia, Eeyore is depression, Tigger is impulsive behaviors, Rabbit is perfectionism-caused aggression, Owl is memory loss, and Kanga & Roo represent over-protection. This leaves Winnie, who Alan wrote in for himself as Christopher Robin's guide through the Hundred Acre Woods — his father's mind."

Description of Winnie the Pooh is shared from We Are The Mighty.

So some of you may recall back around Christmas an militant editor of a local liberal lbg whatever rag got into it with me on fb and subsequently stalked me on social media for awhile.

So fast forward six months and the better half volunteered to speak at a local public summer concert (they have these free all summer in our town). Part of her responsibility speaking was to name all the sponsors of the event. While going over the details prior to speaking I may have mentioned if it were me that one sponsor might get overlooked.

Needless to say I’m very proud of my better half at the moment.....

I would agree, prayers of peace for this real man who led the charge to protect his friends and fellow students. As a result paid the ultimate price & gave his life in their defense.

An only child, there is a fund being setup in his name. My understanding is donations can be made at Wells Fargo if anyone wants to donate.

« on: April 27, 2019, 08:34:01 PM »
So not sure if this is the correct place but I’m posting it here and Nate move it if you need to...

As some of you know years ago and I’m still not sure why to this day Don approached me and said you need to speak to this guy Ashley from Texas. Honestly, I rolled my eyes similar to the day Don called my shop and the wife told me I needed to stop my weekly 3.5 hour mowing job to call him back. So since then Ashley and I have become pretty good cross country friends, to the point Don thinks we’re related. In the meantime my oldest you know Baylee has become friends with Ashley’s oldest Lexi.

So fast forward to I think it was Weds night this last week. Ashley texts and he’s pretty hot under the collar. Lexi has a boyfriend who decided to dump her a week prior to prom. Add to it the fact that she goes to a small school in little Gary east Texas. Her friends all have dates and after exhausting all resources went back to the clown bf to ask if they could just go to prom as friends. Guy hadn’t even rented a tux. So Dad (Ashley) has a valid reason to be upset in my book. As it were Lexi was now not going to the big dance. You get the idea, hair and nail appointments made and dress bought.

So as we’re texting about this I said “well, Baylee has a dress or twenty.” Immediately Ashley states I wouldn’t ask her to fly down here. To which my reply was “it’s just a short plane ride.” He then does the most stand up Dad thing ever and says if she’ll come I’ll buy the ticket. So I call Baylee up and tell her what’s up, no hesitation she says “I want to go!” So we clear the program with momma and rest is history.

Baylee flew to Shreveport Friday evening and it just so happens Monday is a day off of school for Baylee. She will be back in Denver at 8:30 am. Couple poser shots for you crusty old guys....

Coffee Induced Early Morning Rant / So I needed to share
« on: April 04, 2019, 10:21:04 PM »
My wife now works with a future neighbor to the house we’re building. They just moved in last weekend. Apparently the neighbors next to them spent 50k outfitting their backyard. So it’s pretty nice for a backyard the size of a four car garage I take it. Anyhow they had bought a new traeger grill and it was on their back patio. So while the dad figure (I say that loosely and you will see why in a min) is home. A pair of undocumented humans (or what looks to be) come and take his grill off his rear deck. While he’s watching them! He tells everyone he thought about confronting them but then thought about his 1 & 3 year old in the house & was worried the thieves might be armed with a gun!

Seriously? Can’t make this up.....

Then Dad goes and spends a lot more money on a better security system even though he caught these guys on camera which he handed over to the police. I told the wife, $400 will buy you a nice 870 just saying.
