Didn't know you had wires in it already. That could be a problem. Lol

I knew what you guys meant & have done that on larger conduit w/ no wire already in it. Thinking the 3 pieces of 6 ga wire already in there would give me an issue currently. I did pick up a new 75’ fiberglass reel this morning for $76 out the door at Lowe’s. Had a $10 coupon off any $75 purchase that expired today so timing was right.

I’ve found lube helps on any pull. I pulled three 1-0 cables through 1-1/2 inch conduit more than 140 ft by myself without kinking my tool :tongue

Ever heard of lube?

Water or silicone based? Oh wait you meant for pulling wire!

Yeah, I’ve used it before but shouldn’t need it with a good tool. It was going ok until tool decided it didn’t want to reel in any longer and jammed up. I also used a wire calculator app so we should be good pulling this amount of wire thru this diameter tube.

You can't use string?

You mean rope? My experience with rope is a first time pull of wire. We did that with large three phase cable and a forklift before. However, my cable is smaller and pulling by hand. First pull (6 ga x 3) is done now I have two more runs to pull so getting rope back in there would be tough.

Pretty much how my whole day went, time for a fiberglass upgrade....

Oh the humanity...
Those are always fun...

FWIW the fibreglass aren’t a whole lot better. Broke them too.
And you can’t use linesman pliers on the glass either to pull.

My good friend is a master electrician at local hot roll mill back in Indiana. Problem I had was the steel ones kink after time and then make getting it back in the housing problematic until it fails completely. So that was my issue & he suggested the fiberglass unit. Although I’m sure his sponsor for his tools is willing to spend way more than I am for my once every 5 year job. At the moment I have about 4 runs to pull then I’m done so if it lasts thru those I’ll be golden.

Block ID #

Back of motor between block and trans, right next to oil pressure sending unit. Really the last 4 digits are all you need if it is a 1968-76 motor

One is currently sitting on an engine stand and other is still on the engine hoist hanging. With trip back for mom and just being in general busy I have not had time to fiddle with them. Baylee is coming over tomorrow during her school off block to help me pull more wire, 3 strands 6 gauge, 3 strands 10 gauge and 3 of 12 guage. Oh what fun!

Technically if you knew the cars history (meaning a few of the old guys here might as some of these are 50 year old cars) then it’s possible to decide it by model and year. However, since all of these were made before I was born for me that’s not really an option. At best it’s a gamble assuming a 43-51 year old vehicle has original motor.

This link below explains it all.

http://www.cad500parts.com/catalog/page2.htm

You can supposedly (if you’re good) pull one of the angled plugs out and use a coat hanger to measure the stroke. Problem is it is not a straight shot and I think the difference in stroke from 472 to the 500 is around a 1/4”

Kurt, is that DIY4x ?

Yes they are supposed to be an upgrade from the stock cast piece and they have the front hangers too.

Yeah, sorry JR I should have stated that better. He does nice work, if you’re gunna fix it might as well upgrade it.

im going to have to call some tin hat bullcrap on this article!

regardless of whether or not benchmade resides in Oregon and who they supposedly give contributions, benchmades biggest client is the us military.

besides, how does benchmade assisting a police department in destroying weapons that were apart of crimes have anything to do with support or the lack there of of the second amendment?!

Nate, the weapons destroying aside their campaign contributions were a bit weighted in one direction. Having the dot mil as your biggest client really doesn’t say much to me honestly....

So flyin back to Indiana again tomorrow. Mom has right side heart failure and as such they are doing a right side heart cath Thursday morning. They believe she has pulmonary hypertension, long short of it for her age 70 that’s not a good prognosis. So any prayers are welcome, some prayers for my attitude might be helpful too as this traveling to Indiana for sick parents is wearing on me. Maybe a swift kick in my rear would be a better option..... thanks

You live in AZ the truck bed capital of the world!!!!

I thought that was Texas... and there’s only two shops in Tucson that sell them.

I was actually thinking the same thing when I read that....

Are you guys both referring to regular truck beds, and not flat beds? Because if your referring to flat beds, it seems there’s only a few dealers, or else I simply can’t find others and should probably not be building a vehicle

Edit: Shawn are you thinking Texas is the truck bed as well?

correct OEM truck beds
