S- Give me the years of caddy engines I need to be looking for PP?
68-76 preferably front wheel drive models as they have rear sump. Be very careful a lot of sellers with 472’s believe they have 500’s For your reading enjoyment https://www.cad500parts.com/catalog/page2.htm

I passed on the 73 eldorado today, he didn’t want to come to my terms yet. The other thing is I’m busy in shop currently and don’t need a vehicle in the way to part out. Have to go back next week as mom is having heart procedure so if he still has it when I get back maybe he’ll be more apt to take my offer....
Shawn post it up about when she is having that done so we all can pray for her pretty please
And
Are the girls out of school?? Denver teacher's strike affecting you guys?
Will do and no they have school, we're still far enough of a northern suburb to not be affected......

Shawn, dagonnit, you have me now wanting to buy up some 500 caddys.
I never looked into this great powerplant until you started all this fuss. I think I'll go out and score a few. At least you know where you can find a spare then.
Would be a great engine for a restored square body...
Dagonnit..........!!!!......
I concur

Hope your mom is ok after the surgery. It can take a lot out of the older person but they usually bounce back.
Thanks Bob, at the moment I plan to be there for a few days after. However, I did purchase the insurance on the plane tickets so.....

Correct, no real estate for a junk yard.
I did think about saving that turbo 400 transaxle and it was supposedly recently refreshed and new bell housing. Putting eyes on it this afternoon. Being front wheel drive it has correct oil pen for a truck build too.
I do have a couple other leads. One guy supposedly has several “500’s” in his shop but he hasn’t verified any of them to my knowledge. Then another one in Albuquerque but that’s 6 hours. I have time so there’s that too and I’m technically not in a hurry but would like this part of jigsaw squared away.

Shawn that thing is begging for a DMax swap...
It’s big so it’s definitely a Texas ride, if I get it I’ll send it your way Charles!

Going to look at this tomorrow, running and driving with 94k on the clock. We’ll see if I can get him down a little. Scrap yard guy will give me 5 bills for it w/o motor. May tell him 4 and I want locked up 500.....

Strike 2 or 3 maybe, 2nd junk yard across street had a 500 but motor was locked up tight...

Stock bearings(if goodintite)=better than new timkens/moog off the shelf.
But, man, hard not to renew. I'd be trusting those things for a way long trip where I could scarcely work on the truck. Have to find a shop like yours...!
Technically I think most of us guys along your route have tools to swap them out....

Dave, Ken would know about both of those items. Tread carefully

Update: Well guy near Norm and Nate has discovered (with my help) he is selling a 472 not a 500. So there’s that but if anyone needs a 472 caddy it can be had for a couple bills and those 472’s were no slouch either.... Have not strolled over to junk yard yet, high of mid teens yesterday and mid 20’s today is not my preference for strolling thru junk yards.... Did have another guy call me, name of Glen who lives an hour SE of me. Has 6 caddy big blocks and believes at least a couple are 500’s. Was a little hesitant to part with them but called me.... after some discussion and me offering to help him identify all 6 on what they actually were and rough year he seems to be ready to sell at least one. He agreed he does not like the cold either so we will wait until temps get back to 50’s or so.

Stickers, Maybe in the garage but not on rolling stock. But I guess that is just my opinion.
I typically do not put stickers on my vehicles, I have placed them on racks in the shop and the inside of the side walk in door to the enclosed race car trailer...

My sugar has been elevated for last couple months and as such I am doing no carb and working out daily. This stuff looks great Nate! Too bad I can't use a grill at my town home rental currently. Told the wife once it warms up a bit I am taking the smoker to the shop and will be doing some cooking there in the meantime until new house is ready!

I like the 45* shock mounts, should fit the Burb.
We have a stud tho mount too where the stud is perpendicular to the axle and you can angle them in our out. Just haven’t got them listed yet.

Caps don’t look forged, there appears to be gas cut marks running across them. My 2 cents....
OK. I thought I heard Tommy say they were forged
Doesn’t mean they are any less strong, depends on whet they were cut & machines from. They do look beefy.....

You have a 44 in the rear of that right? If so I have updated parts for it being ordered this month.
Update, it's a 1 piece unit, so I doubt you'll have something for it. Oh well.
Meaning no differential cover? Third member drop out I’m assuming?

i can most likely get it off if needed. and the knuckles are mostly just overspray on them. alittle bit of primer to keep from rusting but not coated on black paint by any means.
i’d just hate to see shiny new parts get rusted in 2 weeks. lol.
I don’t see an issue, was surprised when you cleared the axle shafts. Lol, never saw that done either but it’s probably a decent idea. Most of my builds are not for show so not my expertise. Keep up the great work!

I don’t paint between where spindle mounts and knuckle normally. However, knuckles are painted so not sure why it would matter. If paint is too thick it may scrap as you bolt two surfaces together would be only thing I could see happening.

Offer $150
Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
Funny you said that, I was driving home today and thought I may just do that next week. Couple guys in there 60’s or 70’s run the place... I am scheduled to pick the one up near Nate and Norm on Sunday for 4 bills. Supposedly it ran a couple years ago and it spins free.

So pardon the ignorance. Seized only means the rotating assembly won’t turn right? That could be lots of reasons for that. Rings, water. Crankshaft broke, you know. $250 doesn’t seem like a bad gamble to loose if it’s unrepairable. ?

Correct Dave, numerous possible reasons it could be bound up. The down side is it’s a $250 gamble really

Well salvage yard around corner has one, unfortunately it’s seized tighter than an Alabama tick.....
But for $250 I’m considering buying it and trying to strip it down. Any thoughts on that?

As of late last night we were able to move the new site over. Still working out a few bugs, at the moment you will have to view this from a PC as it will not load on my smart phone. We still have more product to list on the GLO side yet along with some missing pictures. It seems to load super quick so excited about that and as I get things more organized we will be adding more content too, things such as a blog etc. The RM link is functional so maybe we can direct some godless GLO customers in a better direction too! https://www.greatlakeoffroad.com/

Jr, I am considering buying a back up. Supposedly the one in Norm and Nate’s back yard is being sold weds. If not that guy will let me know. He only wants 4 bills so price is right and I’d like to stop by Norms and check out the truck in person anyhow so maybe that will come thru, we’ll see. If not I’ll just keep my eyes open for a spare....

Luckily I have time to figure it out, last I knew they were still working on sorting out the title work...
Maybe I’ll just run an nv4500 to that 203 low range box....
