JR, most counties have online access to tell you the average water depth as it will rise and fall throughout the seasons. Many variables can come into play on that as well when drilling. For instance I had two wells on my farm. One for the house 60’ deep and the one at the pond which was a couple hundred. What happened was they hit sulfur water (pretty common in NW Ohio’s but hit a pocket of it in NE In when drilling that well. So the owner at time told them to keep drilling, they hit bedrock then went another 50’. Best water I ever drank, the well or water depth averaged 40’ year around in those wells. The one drilled at the pond was about 15k to drill versus my first home which was 4-5k back in 2002.....

Nice job chief! I don’t know much about wood so me personally would run something like that until it fell apart.

Fabric on the other hand, I look forward to seeing how that felt holds up. As it’s not very good stuff. If I was a guessing kind of guy the stuff in the drawers will disintegrate in short order and the stuff on top will begin to pill and show wear in similar fashion. I have used that brand of felt and color for key chains, and this is what it does in your pocket. Same brand in black and white, we’ve used full bolts of the stuff!

If you ever have to replace the felt check out sailrite they’ll have something a we bit more industrious. But that felt serves the exact purpose your looking for, cheap and effective.... for a time :)

Again, nice work!

Sailrite? The marine outfit?

Yea that one. Their fabric, canvas, sail cloth selection is vast. It’s where a lot of camper builders/re-furbers purchase material. Specifically the ones who have a pop top partial soft sided pickup camper.

https://www.sailrite.com/Fabrics/RV-and-Auto-Fabric/Car-and-RV-Covers?t=1546455335061

Of course it’s a little more spendy than Joann’s but it’s aimed at a different long term use. If I attempt a redo of a seat of bench seats we have I’ll purchase upholstery cloth from there....

Back on track and quick update, USAA had enterprise contact me for a rental today. Not sure what to make of that but I declined until Monday stating I was out of town on business. Technically I’m one town over wrenching on Baylee’s new ride at my shop this weekend and will pick up rental Monday. Didn’t have time to mess with it today but did send USAA another email explaining why I didn’t take them up on offer today.....

Well, it gets better. Called to get rental and they have it set up as self pay meaning me! Unbelievable...

As long as you’re not in what I consider bad portions of Denver and that blending in I think you would be ok here. Oh and my daughters high school parking lot is considered the one bad place to park but I think that’s all high schools in general

Too bad for the XJ, thought that was coming along quite well.

You/your dad have plans for this one?
Future plans are to install a security lock box underneath front drivers seat, security box in tailgate as well, military grade terminals just like the ones we put into the xj, flat fenders, 33 in tires off jk once dad puts the 38 in tires on his jeep, shocks, and new rims. Probably going to need some oh shoot handles as well...

Baylee ordered the behind the rear flip n fold seat security compartment this evening (creates an enclosure behind rear seat and you can access it by locking or unlocking tailgate) and then a lock box under drivers seat. Both units made by tuffy and this will keep thieves at her high school at bay hopefully. CD player has removable face plate.

She has a set of the military grade battery terminal al in route as the stock positive one had a crack in it. Being that it is a 4 cylinder we are planning to keep weight down on this build. Eventually custom bumpers front and rear. Both will have hitch insert for portable winch so we will eventually wire front and rear for winch hookup to battery.

Tires on jk are 32.8, thinking we can fit them with shallower back spaces rims and aftermarket flat fender flares. May need a small spacer or a set of taller springs (think 1-2” range) & new shocks.

She received a set of round tube side steps smittybilt brand with Jeep, we will probably install they are still in the box.

I believe she is buying para cord handles again from the retired navy guy he makes a nice all American built product.
Lastly would be gears and lockers.

Best anti theft device nowadays is a manual transmission.

No joke, read about a few here in Denver where thieves left em once they couldn’t drive em.

It’s on the to do list for each of the girls, their list and I agree. Baylee swapped batteries by herself other than me having to help her knock loose the stock battery clamps on tj. Then having to critic her quality wrenching on reinstalling the hold down on tj battery. But pretty impressed all in all, at one point I was trying to explain something in the beginning and she was irritated. So I ask what’s wrong, her response was something along the lines of “I know I just want to get this done let’s go already...”

Best thing I did was to run non ethanol gas in the small engines and boats. Not a lot of maintenance costs, oil change on the four strokes and new plugs is about it.

100% agree with that statement for small engines ^^^^^^ do the same on my mower, snow blower and wr450

My bigger costs on farm were hydraulics of the tractors and skid loaders in addition to filters & hoses etc.

I think that is the most true statement ever recorded in the history of man......

Crappy pic and the plates are prior owners btw. This was yesterday, it got up into the 50's for a day so we dropped xj off at my shop waiting to see if we can come to a conclusion with the insurance company soon. The tj had a major exhaust leak which I found when inspecting it, the manifold collector had one of the two bolts missing. So $2.58 for a bolt with washer at Ace hardware and we had that back together. I machined parts as Baylee wrenched on her TJ and Xj swapping batteries as we know the history on the xj unit and it was a couple hundred CCA's higher to boot. We removed the air box to get to the exhaust and it needed changed so while out buying a bolt we purchased a new one of those too.

Other than a steering box line leak the Jeep is pretty solid. Prior female owner kept very good records. She was the most honest person I think I have ever dealth with when buying a car, very sweet girl. Told us and had recorded with documentation the last 9 years worth of records. This jeep is a 5 speed with the 2.4 cyl gas motor. Baylee is learning to drive a manual. She may be drivng the Honda for awhile yet......

Put some good bumpers on it fast!

Don't jinx her JR! Plus this one has a real frame under it, so lets hope it won't be needed!

Currently she is tooling around in the family beater aka my Dad's former car which is a 2010 Honda Insight hybrid, 450 miles to a 9 or 10 gallon tank but it sure is ugly!

Go to surplus center and build your own. I've built several with 40 ton rams. The one draw back or change I would make if building one from scratch again (currently have a heavy Ibeam in my shop with a ram mounted and a 4 way head already built) is to push with a solid plate into a 4 way splitter at the end and then have a chute built off the end that would push the split chunks up a ramp and drop it into a trailer. This way you could take trailer over and just stack without bending over to pick it all off the ground. I think imo that is the least expensive and best route. If anyone ever needs help building one I can pick apart what not to do pretty quick on a design, don't ask how...….

Nice addition Ken, have any of you guys with lots of equipment ever calculated just the maintenance costs per year on all those motors etc? After having a lot of that and now having relatively non I'm torn if I ever go back to all of that. Probably not here in Colorado either way so it will be a few years if I ever do...….

Don’t believe so, she wants to run 33’s so minimal lift and replace the sun faded fenders with flatty’s. Then gears and lockers depending when she saves up some funds.

Hit the gym this morning and the wife unit joined me. Her first time back since surgeries.

Then we recycled some moving boxes and put away more stuff at the townhome. We can finally see floor in living room!

Then went to shop and helped Baylee wrench on her two Jeeps. Dad doesn’t have to help too much unless she gets a part that isn’t cooperating quite like it should and it takes a little old guy finesse.

Came home to cheeseburger soup (one of wife’s easy meals that works best as leftovers for girls during week) and supper which was chicken fajitas.

Ok, so other than dead eats remnants how is the collection of fuel going as we know this beast can consume large quantities of the stuff....
S- It does have a healthy appetite!

But on the flip side of that equation is a toasty house and a warm garage.

So It ate all of the first load of Duane's logs, had to clean him out with a second load.

That and we have been beating ourselves half to death swinging a busting maul breaking up a couple of Ash trees. That stove has eaten maybe 1/4 of those two trees. If I could possibly break the rest of those logs up, I'd be good through Feb.

If it burns down to gray ash, I throw in camshaft box, two dry logs, several smaller Ash branch pieces, and one-two big wet Ash logs and she is happy with that for 8 hours at least. Throw in three big logs and as the new yorkers say, -Fa-get-ah-bout-it

Get those pre rangers together and rent a hydraulic splitter for a day. Worth the money and a good one will take 3 people to keep it fed.

No. It’s more like trex decking. Recycled plastic and epoxy

Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
Not as completely indestructible as some would have you think

I have decks and walkways made of the stuff and I have to get after it regularly. It does not split and crack, but it does warp and cup. Fades as well. I spray it every year with a wood preservative and it does OK. Now, having said that, should I have built with wood, my decks would have been toast by now. Have built many of them and they do not last like the composite stuff. Recycled plastic and ground up wood (read: Sawdust like consistency)

Good info, my next home will have two porches constructed of this stuff. Just got rid of a large cedar deck that needed stained twice a year.  :likebutton:
