Well my neighbor, avid coffee drinker & former aurora captain on the pd there apparently had a heart issue and ran his Harley off the road and thru a barbed wire fence over near Kansas. Claims Harley and the leathers probably saved him. He could use some prayers for a full recovery. He’s also on our local church security team and a high school football referee (yeah not sure which way to go on all of that yet).

I personally gave up on Nike after my last set of running shoes. I still have them but use them as a set of everyday whatever shoes (I have several sets that fall into this category). I now buy only hoka  one running shoes which are manufactured in China but unlike the nikes my knees and hips do not hurt after a run.

Btw, the only thing this goofball is qualified to endorse would be knee pads....

I started my day by driving to Commerce City (45 min one way) to the fedex terminal to pick up a crate of steel that Friday showed arriving around 7:30 PM. Hey Shawn, those teflon lined bushings don't last when used on helicopter applications when exposed to a dusty environment.

May or may not apply to this situation, dunno, just sharing

There was some concern voiced to me about using heims on this steering setup. Mainly due to a ton of cheap Chinese joints flooding the market of questionable quality. I’ve personally ran into them over the years myself. So I understand the concern and if nothing more than a learning moment will cover this topic a bit.

First, I always try to buy FK Rod ends. They are one of two American made products I would recommend the second being QA1 (I think that is correct). Both have options for a self lubricating Teflon lined rod end. The ones Baylee has I believe are the QA1 version best I can tell. She has around 4K on these and they are tight still.

We are buying a second set to have in the xj as spares. If one goes we will replace all 4. Just good maintenance procedure in my opinion. Similiar to the cotter pinned nuts on each connection we run steel “safety” washers so in the event a rod end would pop the socket it cannot come completely unhooked. Baylee is additionally aware that these will wear out and as much as we work on her vehicle it is checked regularly just like the oil level etc. She further understands that her vehicle is modified and with that comes more responsibility & added work.

We drilled those bolts on the lathe. The one passenger knuckle bolt is over 5” and to get grease veins in right spot we needed a longer drill bit. So I had to make one trip to hardware and buy a 12” drill bit then cut it to around 6”.

Charles, I was able to narrow down the window when he exited the theater to about 10-15 mins. I went over the camera layout with the jr manager. Rent a cop and GM we’re looking at video footage, I was not allowed to go up & part take. Worth noting, no cameras in theaters there other than customers. Real Police could care less, no law against being a creep. My thought was he does this often too which is why we hung around for a good hour hoping to at least get it documented.

One thing kids need to know is that phone is a great weapon, between video and a simple dial 911 (thinking mollie tibbets) let the audio play as it’s recorded if nothing else. It also has location and time stamp then. Baylee is going to be taking krav maga this winter, she hit me up about it again and she has no physical limitations now.

My second just got her learners permit, yeah it’s scary. One word of advice, stay calm & talk softly. They will choose Dad over Mom at least in my house.....

Sounds great. My daughter is leaning towards being a pilot. She has done the Young Eagles a few times and is great in school taking all kinds of AP classes.

She thinking service? Are you considering letting her do that? Baylee has a friend (both parents served) who I believe is going AF route with goal of being a pilut.

That's great.

Yes, tentative goal is to have this fully wheeling ready by next spring. We’re tossing around the idea of building the stock jk axles for her xj. Wouldn’t take all that much and I have a set of wheels and tires she can run for awhile. Max she would want is a 35” and those axles can be built to handle that.

As far as family business she honestly takes after her mom. Has been taking college AP courses in high school and her goal is to graduate with a capstone diploma. She should also have 5 AP courses under her belt in science alone. Hoping that colleges take notice and this helps her get into pre med easier.

But I believe she does like having a cool vehicle that everyone knows her by.....

I spoke too soon, just got home from movie theater. Baylee, Shelby and their two friends who are also sisters same age as mine were apparently propositioned during a movie by a 50+ year old man.

Long story short the girls got up and went to tell a manager and the guy ducked out a side exit door. They were reviewing video footage when we left. Creep...

Are you getting her into the family business??

She does nice work, does she need coaxing or does she have the eye for it all alone?

IDK, she did start a Facebook page about her build and link her Instagram to this xj thread.

She knows what she wants, so obviously the fabrication is mine but she painted most everything and is doing the wrench turning. Doesn’t shy away from it at all. In fact she has been wanting to help me install the fenders on the jk for last couple months.

Young Pup - Happy Birthday, Shawn!  I let my wife pick after I narrow the field for her, she almost always goes for cheaper!  Her latest was between a 2017 & 2016 MDX certified used, lots of bells and whistles.  She went with the 2016 - “I didn’t need the latest and greatest, either are an upgrade over the old MDX” gotta love a frugal wife!

It’s hard to teach being frugal, I think 2 of my 3 daughters understand the concept. The last thing my wife looks at is price....

Charles, my wife picked out her last vehicle after driving 30 different vehicles. No one in the family liked it (which we told her b4 we bought it btw). I don’t think she really liked it either, truth be told. Bought her this 4Runner & everyone is happy. The cherry on top was her telling me I’m just going to let you choose from now on. We love our Toyota so far.....

Oh & im officially 41 today, so there’s that.

Looks nice. Threaded adapters can be a bare to use on larger machines. I think you can get a Bison for a reasonable price.

A decent 4 jaw is under 2 bills, hoping I can find a used original for half that possibly.

Coffee with the wife at our local Sat morning hangout. Then picking up some hardware at TS for the jeeps so some wrenching can commence late morning.

Edit: baylee is a tired sleeping all day teenager....
X -xj checking out some wiring on her front right turn signal

X -xj drilling steering bolts for press on grease zerks

-jk reinstall winch on front bumper

-jk change rear axle gear oil at 350 mile break in (normally 500 miles but it’s 5:43 gears so it turns a bit more)
