Charles, the flip side of this coin & I'm not referring to fireworks laws either at the moment. Is that I raise my kids to logically look at all laws within a moral context. Basically, use your brain and think, question everything & make a sound descision. Just because it’s law doesn’t make it right.

Even with the bigger axles, I like this stance height. This or maybe 1" higher with sway bars and GOOD shockage

Nothing wrong with an XJ. You appear to have some mechanical/welding abilities (  ) and I'd assume the kid can turn a wrench as well so any problems that pop up could be addressed pretty quick. What I'd do assuming I was getting another XJ (which I want to do...)
1. weld some reinforcement plates along the unibody
2. liberally spray wd40 and/or breakfree on pretty much every nut/bolt within eye sight., let it sit for a bit then do it again.
3. Rip the carpeting out and check the floor pans for holes or weld in new floor pans.
4. Prepare to replace the plugs/wires, actual oil change and maybe other fluid swap.
Bobby is correct, check frame rails on outside front end. Near track bar and steering box for cracks. We looked at 30 xj’s or so b4 we purchased Baylee’s. I’m not against buying one with a cracked frame either, easy fix with weld on pre cut steel overlays.

Limit to 32” rubber & 2-3” of lift with aftermarket fender flares. Anymore and you have to strengthen up everything, front frame rails & steering along with SYE. Baylee’s had sye and 6” of lift so we had to really strengthen up front unibody rails & run a real cross over steering. Imo it’s not worth it and with fenders and 2-3 inches of lift you can run 32’s same as she has currently.
So the other thing you will probably have to address is electronic gremlins. We’re chasing speedo & odometer issues with Baylee’s XJ
Motor & trans will still be running as rest of xj fails and falls apart.

Yeah, big red truck would have been better.....  Funny thing happened last week & well this comment about your Dad made me think about it. So I was back in Indiana a couple months back. My Dad had taken a turn for worse over last nine months, so I spent a couple days hiring caretakers & people to clean for him. Idea is to keep him in his place for awhile longer before going to assisted living. His wishes & I’m trying to oblige. The neighbor lady is nosey and my dad is not the nicest guy when uninvited people get in his business. Well, she called cops on him for welfare check. They checked and the people I hired are doing their job. So old man confronts nosey neighbor, she lies and tells him that his son called the cops. His response, BS he wasn’t raised to ever call the cops & he sure as heck wouldn’t call them on me! When he told me this we both got a good laugh......

A retired police officer neighbor friend of mine came over last night to watch fireworks & sip on my bourbon stock. His comment was that my generation gen X for reference may have been the last gen to fist fight on occasion growing up. Since then things have changed dramatically, anti bullying campaigns and school shootings etc. generally speaking these generations since (millennial and now gen z) don’t face the same things we did growing up in those terms. I recall several times at the local public boat access after school to settle things if it lasted that long as many times we took care of things in passing periods at school & the cops didn’t work there and were never called either. My dad on the other hand got several calls. So what I’m getting at is these young ins may not have had the same well rounded education we were subject to.

I'd just pressure your dealer who managed to ruin a transmission just sitting there waiting to be fixed, to work you a wonderful deal on a different problem LoL
FWIW the F250 rides as good or better than our "Heavy tow" F150 Eco Puke. Than you can be like me, drive up along side a Newer Chevy, get the drivers attention, and take my hands off the wheel and watch them panic LoL Chevy guys steer a LOT =)
Or you can explain to the Chevy guy looking at your 35" rubber lovingly that "ya I just put them on, no lift" drives nice.
Another fun thing to do is while they are pouring DEF in their new Durmax ya can say "ya I get 12mpg but its only $1.65 a gallon as you fill with E85 and smile.
Just some ideas....
Well, your post is interesting and some of it not far off. When I get ready I will be speaking with them about another Ford potentially and we will discuss the amount of days this one I bought from them spent in their garage versus mine...……..

Dealer called, next week before I see truck back. Seal leaked while they were test driving it last week. They have had this happen on 2-3 other trucks (they sell a lot of trucks to ranchers and oil field) as they’re in Ft Collins near WY border.
So as a precautionary measure while they have it out the converter, pump, valve body and seal are all getting replaced.
Truck has 58k on it & I have coverage until 90k, this buys me two years. I do not plan on having it past 90k.

I’ve always built my own cords, welding, extension etc. The welding cord I use currently & made an extension for too were repurposed from a prior three phase industrial setup that went defunct. The cord was purchased with a group of equipment. So I saved it and repurposed it, reality is the the cord is larger than I need and it was 4 wire instead of 3 I needed but price was right.

I know a guy who has an amazing pickup for a growing family, it’s red with lots of bed space. Seems to be really well maintained. Reasonable price compared to all those new things with more potential issues you mentioned.

It’s all under powertrain warranty. Nate, don’t tempt me I have $5k worth of GM card incentives too that I would like to cash in.....
The wife and I have also been discussing narrowing the fleet a bit. With Baylee driving that’s another vehicle to insure and have available for use if one breaks down. We’re limited on space here in hippy land so that would give me more work space in garage too. Within a year I’m going to have a second daughter with vehicle driving. Wife’s car will be close to 100k on odometer by years end. So we have discussed selling the truck, and trading in her Lexus. Get her something that fits the family & can pull a small trailer when we need it. Yes, Jeep can pull small trailer too. So we’ll see.....
Jeep pickup with diesel is supposed to be out early next year too....

Update: Claim that the video is not my motor and doesn't apply. At my insistence they kept the truck for an extra week to see if they could get it to do this random long start. As of last Thursday (super hot day here) they did get it to stumble start on one occasion on a hot start while it was hooked to computer. The data from the crank sensor didn't look right. So they were replacing that last Friday and asked to keep it thru the weekend to finish up Monday and test which I agreed thinking it was a good idea. So this morning I get a call, they apparently came into the shop this morning with a big red puddle of transmission fluid under it. Appears to be front seal leaking and they are pulling the transmission now.....  I'm leaning more and more towards selling this......

You will never be sorry for a getting a little to much, but always regret not getting enough. All the verticals use the same room and many are 110v. Sure 2 stage and 220v is better but then they get pricey. You can always tap into the dryer for the unit, did that for years.
I think we discussed this & his dryer wasn’t close. Maybe I need to drive to Lincoln and wire a 220v outlet for him....

I started at 6 this morning with a pick ax tearing up some dead sod 10 foot by 20 foot area getting it ready to lay weed mat & stone (once I get my truck back to haul stone on trailer). Took me about an hour and half and I was covered in dirt & sweat. Took shower then ran and got groceries for the week including the 3rd & 4th as we’re hosting here, our deck has a nice view of local works so it’s become a standard for us to host.
Then measured up the downstairs bathroom for new trim & ship lap a couple walls along with new light fixtures and paint. Supposed to redo that room next Saturday.

Charles, we had issues back in Indiana with houses being sealed up too tight as well. As Dave stated in some cases fresh air handlers were installed. I have never heard of them here on the front range though but we don’t get as hot (including humidity) or near as cold as where I used to live. So my thought is temperature range has something to do with it too. I’m sure someone has a much better take on it than I but that’s my 2 cents.

I'll consult my wife and see if I can have her find the article, she's the nurse or was once upon a time. The basics of this and a quick google search will most likely pull up the information is that taking an Alka-Seltzer once a day is a preventative for kidney stones. Apparently what ever is in it helps to break up the stones. Tonya (my better half) takes a preventative for migraines that works well for her, down side is it causes her to create stones. So this is one method she has had good results in keeping them at bay, better knock on wood for her now that I said that......
