TRN, couldn't agree with you more.

We are wrong they say as we do not agree with them, or accept what is now being called normal.

Guess I'm not normal, even have a shirt that says it.

Instead of all that weight and building, why not just foam sheets?

I would get the cooling system pressure tested.

5508
Going with Valvoline Syn which should be delivered any minute now. Valvoline specs this for LS rears, which you sold me. Right now it has wally 80/90 in there, no modifier.

Now if it is really bad for it I can get any oil locally and return the Valvoline to summit Friday when I go?

Could be worse, easy fixes for sure.

You were sure the coolant crossover was open? Knew you had a time finding the O rings for it.

Just do the 37s now and what is it you have about cameras and chainsaws? I keep the lanyard around my wrist now!

Washoe county, but I was typing this,,,,,,,,,

Well, found a cargo worthy 40ft HC, delivered for $4200. If I need moved, they will for $100hr. Even though cargo (step above wind/water tight), they pressure wash, wire brush the corners and paint it tan.

Like TRN says it solves storage issues with the tractor as long as the county doesn't come down on me until I get it moved.

Anything over 200SF needs a building permit and I can move a 20ft alone. I understand as of 7/1, you can have 1 container per acre.

20ft HC are over 4k here. Many are just WW not cargo. Trying to find the "new" add again. I have found HC, but only in the LA area, to far.

Online quotes are over 1k for moves from the bay area to reno. I will have to move it/them too, just dropping on the lower road now until the road and pad are cut.

There are mule deer too, just couldn't find the pics.

5516
OK guys, what oil for the long run?

Do I need limited slip additive with synthetic?

80/90? 80/140?

Kinda looking at Delvac Mobil1, Valvoline Synpower (has LS additive) and Lucas right now.

5517
For all you guys thinking about regearing, just do it. It really feels like a new truck even with 35s on it! 18mpg normal and 14-15 towing now.

5518
Yep, battery issues a few times but the DIC is supposed to remember all that I thought? Yes, other doors make it work fine.

Think Ken told me there are relays in there too which explains a couple things.

With the tractor almost ready I found new (probably 1 trip) 20ft containers in SF for $1500 each. Worth the drive (50 miles each way) for that savings and condition, will get two. If I come back over the Golden Gate, no toll either ($21 for 4 axles).

Found with a couple easy mods (remove PORS cover, shave mounts and let some air out of the tires) the Kubota will fit into a standard container. Sticking with the 20s as they bypass building codes (under 200SF) and I can move myself.

When I pickup, I will use sacrificial ply under them with 2x4s screwed into the edges. This will allow easy slide off with no damage to trailer. New ply is cheap if needed. Later I am adding a hitch mounted 6K winch I have had laying around. Will leave it on the trailer but stored under the tilt bed and attach when required.

Just for fun, these are common sights where I am.

Check out the youtube videos on the turbo cleaning. Very common issue with the EGR Duramax engines. Thought mine was sticking, turns out it was the tune.

Dunno.  I have a bug to do something not structural construction.

I have a bead on a 2008 F250 frame and both axles.  Will start working on a roller with a NV4500 and maybe a 2 speed transfer case to put with the 12V and then figure out what body to drop on it.

Got a lot to learn about straight axle trucks....

Remember what Norm said about a 12v and the sterling don't play well.

Funny thing is on the a home the heater/AC started acting up. Would blow hot air on the drivers side and cool air on the passenger side.

Played with all the setting to no avail. Batteries were disconnected during the gears, so on a stop on the way home I disconnected them again.

That did it and a good thing to with 95* today and hotter later this week.

Still think the DIC needs replacing. Hour meter went to 0, sometimes the radio shuts off when I get out, sometimes not and many of the dash lights are still out.

5523
Hear is the final setup. Pretty darn good with 7-9 backlash.

Took it for a ride and it was quiet, both drive and coast. Put cheap oil in it, will drain at 150 then add synthetic.

Need to get 500 miles on it by the weekend for towing. Plan on getting 2 shipping containers and the Kubota up to the prop.

5524
So got the Dmax in today for the regear, redo. Took about 3 hours, no issues.

Sean at River City Diff, Rancho Cordova did the re-install for free. Randys stepped up for the new gears and little things.

First here is the old pinion that was making noise. Obviously something not right, you can see the wavy pattern.

Myself and others figured the pinion was shallow. Think it was riding on the toe to much and high.

Heck that looks good.

Just think, open exhaust and intake, no smog tune or EGR. You should be putting down in the 500hp area with even a mild tune.

Since you are where you are, cleaning the adjustable vanes in the  turbo out might be a good idea.

So 2 things guys, first is picture orientation. This keeps getting asked so here is what I found.

Looks like when using a cell phone and direct uploading, taking a vertical picture loads fine. Taking a landscape picture will yield a twisted picture. When downloaded to the PC fist, then posted, they come out fine.

Second, the new gears are great. Quiet, the don't seem to drag as much on deceleration either. Still turning about 2k @ 70mph, but mileage seems to be up a little too.

Yep, old pinion making noise. You can see the chatter in there.

Here the new pattern, 7-9 backlash. Way better!

Think we crossed posts Dave. It has some adjustment, just wish it opened a little more.

When opened past 90* it could use another 2.5 inch of teeth. Their measurements are over all when you purchase, not pin to end so it is really around 22in long. Next size was 32 anyway.

So besides adding another bit of bite to it, I want to go hydro too. Closed it is 16in, pin to pin. Just need to measure to see if 12in travel will open it up more.

May add some bushings to tighten it up some and give more wear area.

Cleaned and painted it looks fine so I put the rest on. Folds up nice and flat and the teeth mesh nice at 90*.

I wish it opened a little more but the quick attach bucket folds up a little farther than a normal so the thumb is a little high.

Setup my new 12ft mig gun from welding city with 030 wire. Worked great and the extra few feet helped.

Burned it in heavy since this might be stressed a tad sometimes. Plus the BH arm is an H beam so it is only welded on the edges, not all around.

Think the mounts metal is really cheap as no matter how I set the Miller 211 I could not get a clean sootless weld. Maybe its the Chinese wire too?

Got the thumb on yesterday. Hardest part was welding without proper gloves.

First was getting the plate setup. Had the youngest help with clamping it, just a hand short for that!

Made a couple lines and ground it all clean.

Going to star the thumb tomorrow.

Today the forks came in from Titan. Quick attach and they work great. US MADE.

Also got these weld on chain hooks. Figure 3 on the bucket (ends and center) 2 on the forks and one on the backhoe.
