I have 4 of those I placed in service when I purchased my 18' trailer some years ago. They are still functioning fine. I don't anticipate replacing them.

So this weekend was cold weather training for my SAR team. Not that cold as it was about 20-25 degrees or so. We hiked 2/3 of the way up a small mountain and then in a clearing we broke up into teams to build shelters. The guy I was with showed me something I had never seen before and it works like a charm, and I wanted to pass it on.

We made a "diamond" shaped shelter with my tarp/tent with three corners anchored and the last one tied to a tree. Then we had a fire a couple of feet from the opening. The tarp tent is pretty sturdy and is aluminized or something on the in-side so it reflects heat pretty well.

Well (and this is the part I was glad to learn)....he had some 3 mil plastic....just a cheapo type drop cloth plastic he grabbed at Home Depot. Well he laid that over the opening we had and got one edge held down tight....so we had a clear "flap" as an entry way. I was amazed at how warm it got inside there. The heat passed through that clear plastic so easily...and no wind loss. He had a "space blanket" on the floor of it as well and it was toasty warm in there in absolutely no time. Definitely would be a great way to shelter someone out of the wind/cold/rain and keep them warm.

Plus the plastic is cheap, you can get them at Wally World or HD/Lowes very easily. If you haven't done it (maybe you guys all knew this anyway!  ) I would urge you to give it a whirl.....good for teaching kids too. Just thought I would pass that along.   

I always just warmed up in the exhaust of a turbine engine at idle that was not connected to a jet ;-)

Well, that starter I put on three months ago during the motor fiasco is officially taking a big poop. Making some funny noises, hasn't left me stranded yet but it's under warranty so that is being swapped shortly. Snow blower needed carb torn apart and cleaned then wife picked up a screw last night & we awoke to a flat this morning. Not my week.....

I did work on back rack a little more today & decided a couple pieces are getting cutoff & replaced as the design evolves.....

& I ordered a 2" bar clamp machined to mount "stuff" to roll bars made of 2" tube today.

Next I drilled and installed the permanent anchor bolts (Which are removable for break-down) and removed the interior 3" wood screws that had held the business together up to this point

Those corners will get trimmed out with 4" X 3/4" painted pine board

Then I threw some color on the collector panels

I am not sold yet on the clear corrugated panel.  I have three main issues with it and am thinking a clear single pane glass would be better.  It would be very interesting to compare the two directly.  Will your panels work?  Yes. But will they be the most optimum, premium, best possible solution?  I think more testing is required.   

1.  not completely clear, anything less than totally clear will block sunlight and reflect the energy back outside instead of letting it in.
2.  corrugations increase surface area, increasing the heat loss through the window
3.  corrugations have so many different angles, it would diffuse the light into some strange angles, again seems less efficient.

I'm just using the same material that is recommended by others over on the solar site.
Glass is a good transmitter, but it can be broken easily
THis stuff is a bit more robust and is less expensive.
Folks have a lot of success with the corrougated clear panel, and the light transmission is pretty close to clear glass from what I have read.
I am not going for the most and the best here. I am only trying to keep water from freezing, nothing more. This should accomplish the task so it solves a major problem for me.
Collectors I make later on might have better panels, like a clear poly-acrylic, but those would have cost $90 per collector and blown the budget up.
Part of the "Charm" of this is that it is quick, easy , and cheap. Na it works, so it checks the block, and that's all I need it to do.

Get a load of the course description titled, “Unlearning Toxic Masculinity:”

“Men will often resort to violence to resolve conflict because anger is the only emotion that they have been socialized to express. Unfortunately, the way that young men are conditioned to view sex and their need to be dominant and have power over others also contribute to instances of sexual assault and other forms of interpersonal violence on college campuses.”

In the hit Broadway musical “My Fair Lady,” Professor Henry Higgins laments in a song, “Why can’t a woman be more like a man?” Today, Professor Higgins might be singing a different tune, “Why can’t a man be more like a woman?”

A few years ago I conducted an unscientific poll to determine what the average American woman looks for in a man.

The poll results were not all that surprising. Ladies want a man who loves God and loves his family. They also want a man who, in no particular order:

1. Has a job;

2. Drives a pickup truck;

3. Uses the bathroom standing up;

4. Eats meat;

5. And is willing to carry them out of a burning building.

In other words -- they want the kind of man made in God's image -- not the image of some effeminate intellectual stuffed in skinny jeans sipping chai tea with his pinky finger extended

And then started painting some of the trim.

Note: Most of the trim is not installed yet. I plan to create it, then paint it seperately and assemble once on site

I created a ledge just above the acrylic and beveled the edge so that water will drip away from the plastic (I think)

That stuff latched right onto the acrylic panel. I'll have to use a saw to remove the clear stuff if I ever need to. I used a saw, then some sand paper to contour in the edges enough to hold paint and not look like a complete mess
