Placed a game camera in the middle of nowhere this weekend. ..really hope no one steals it.

Lots of infrastructure for being in the middle of nowhere. Maybe get a dud camera to draw attention and then conceal the real one nearby. You'll get pics of people trying to steal the camera.

Or you'll get picks of migrant farm workers with backpacks full of meth and explosives looking for a better life in America

JR I promise the two of us fat guys dancing won't move that floor.  It may move some onlookers to nausea but not the floor.  lateral movement is limited by several factors, not the least of which is the sub floor is connected at the sides directly to the studs via a 2x9 1/2 inch piece of lumber.  Lateral forces will be transferred to the end walls.

Yes. Traditional balloon framing. 2x4 let into the 2x6 studs with glue and screws.  Ijoists are installed with Filler blocks and nailed. Once t&g installed it won't be going anywhere.

Don. Don't be shocked. The enemy of our enemy was our friend. We supplied a lot of gear to the taliban or whatever jihadi outfit existed at the time when the Russians were in Afghanistan. No wonder that gear comes back to haunt us. That place is a hell hole that hadn't been worth anything since the spice routes went naval

Oh. and had a fun moment today.  Took the trailer into town and got 50 sheets of plywood.  Needless to say it was heavy.  Went to drop the trailer on the drive so I could manuever it to the casita with the tractor (I have a receiver hitch welded on the box blade).  I started to drop it and noted I was on the inclined part of the gravel drive.  Thought to myself "self, its possible this could roll backwards even with the jack down on the gravel".  Nah, it'll be ok....

.I disconnect the safety chains and lights and start cranking..as soon as it cleared the ball......off it went....sliding down the drive backwards...as I grabbed the tongue and tried to stop it I realized I was unable to alter the course of gravity....but I could steer it.

So as I realized it was heading towards the culvert at the bottom of the hill I decided that steering it into the trees would be preferrable...hit a big pine dead on and stopped it.

Fortunately the wife did not see it as she came out a few minutes later and asked if that trailer was supposed to be down there up against the tree.   Sure honey, just left it there so I could get the tractor on it.....

Walk with all the bending and climbing working in the casita the strips busted loose. Next time it's staples from the get go.
Made a little progress on the casita. Went to town to get a bunch of plywood. Started bracing by sheathing. Using 15/32 apa plywood. Got all the ijiosts trimmed to length. Got the top plate mostly finished. Installed the hurricane strapping from the studs to the foundation beams

Never considered that particular tool to put in the box

Yeah, a and a staple remover, which is kinda important too....I also have traditional sutures
I think your just too scared to use it on yourself..........
maybe....but then thats what the lidocane is for....

When you're way away from a medical facility it helps to have the right gear.

yeah the first set of steri strips didnt work.  Surgical glue by iteself wouldnt work.  So I shaved it and had the wife hold the sides together.  Hit it with glue and strips and it held.  If that hadnt worked that would have been lidocane and staples.

If it had been a bit bigger it would have been a tampon....

Nearest ER is about 60 miles so out here its all about DIY....

Looks good Ken. After working with saws and nail guns all day I'm in the kitchen cutting up fajitas. Drop the big chefs knife, it bounces heel first and sticks me with the point right in the leg. Gotta love it. Blood squirting everywhere and kids and wife having a cow.

This is the guy who built my GAP remy 700. He's on his own now. I'd give him a call and talk to him about your budget and desires. He's a straight up guy and will steer you right.
http://www.crescentcustoms.com

I'd trust advice from a guy who built 100s of rifles over my desire to bankrupt you with a "living vicariously through you build. "

Moon doesn't build ARs but if you want to talk bolts that's the guy I'd use.

Man all this talk has me wanting  to get started on my 300WSM hunting rifle build.....

problem with semi auto weapons is repeat ability which is why the barrel, barrel extension and bolt group are the keys to accuracy.

I don't want to pretend to tell you how to spend your money but if you are unhappy with your bolt gun and looking at 2k ARs, I would hold your powder a bit longer and hold out for a GAP-10. With an 8 month lead time you'll have time to save up money......

At that point you have the penultimate AR and the faiure to engage a target successfully can only be blamed on the loose nut behind the wheel.....

Yeah. I braced and plumbed the long walls usining a good old fashioned plumb bob to eliminate false reading off crowned studs.

Once it's squared up I'll weave the top plates.

Dave I thought about sheathing it but those 2x6 walls are already waaaay to heavy. Easier to adjust in sticks if it needs to be massaged

That front walk with two windows and the door was so heavy that two of us couldn't lift it. We had to use the pulley and tractor system and one guiding to get it up.

So some quick math says that wall was probably 600 lbs.

No wonder.

Actually all four walls are up now. If you mean the left window from our view, I don't know what happened. I laid it out as I went and got off kilter on the jack studs above the header. Will cut them loose and re center later. Just wanted to get all four up and then I can tweak.

Oh I have some big wood for Ken....

Finished the sub floor and got one wall up.  Even though I put the 24 ft wall up in two sections, a single 12 ft section was too heavy for me to lift.  I think I have a testicle rolling around on the deck somewhere....

So I was stumped for a while.  Then I figured that I would get my climbing gear and a climbing pulley and get up in a tree to hang a pulley then run it down to a carabiner then to the tractor.  That proved to be a bigger challenge than it sounds like since my blocks nailed to the side of the platofrm to keep the wall from sliding broke loose....

So back to the drawing board.  More blocks but screwed this time and put a lot of tension on the wall and went to lift then insert a 3ft  2x under the wall to hold it up.  Then back to the tractor and I got it most of the way up but not so much that it would flop off of the deck.  got it braced and then plumbed.

Then on to the second half using the same technique..

pics in a bit.

right after i first got it and it was still 12 inch lift and 37s, I went to visit a friend in an apartment complex and there was a call box visitor lane.  I had to lean way down and punch in the code.  When I went to drive forwawrd the lane curved and I took the entire call box off the post.  Its been that way for 3 years now and no further dents....

Dave, that there is what we call a voodoo dent.  Its a small dent that wards off major damage.  Repair those at your own risk....as soon as there is no damage, more damage comes.  Keep the voodoo dent and the truck is safe from further damage.
