I'd defer to those with most experience developing the criteria/format-

Roger on commentary, but there should be a separate (somehow linked) thread for legit questions though.

OK, on the questions thing, but from experience here, I'd say you'd have a zero percent chance of keeping folks on target...like herding cats...

So let's get a format going
Let's do the cut and paste format where you cut the previous entry, make your additions/corrections on your new post with your stuff in some color

Someone like HC or Bobby come up with the format for the test, but I'll start it off here with something to begin with

Follows:
For each area in the objective section, lets give a score from 1-5. For the subjective section where we are actually shooting and evaluating the weapon, assign a 1-10 score. Most things will be subjective. For example looking at a single stack 9mm pistol you find it has a 7 round capacity. Give it a number based on how you think that stacks up against the competition and your experience. A 7 round single stack 9mm might earn a rating of 5 simply because that is a goodly number of rounds and you feel that is about right for a backup weapon. Areas not to be given a numerical score will have a (NS) after the line item.
And zero is not a good thing, a 5 or a 10 is like a shiny gold star!

Talk about the accuracy:
Do you feel the weapon is reliable?
Does it have any shortcomings you can detect?
Your overall feelings about the weapon
A one liner. You get to decide. Go or No-Go. You call it. the gun gets a score of 55 but jammed, then you can call it a No-Go.

So once we standardize all this we will get some real gun testing going on from all you real men out there and after a goodly number of reports start to develop a good "Sight picture" (That's for you Mikey) of a particular weapon.

If we do this right, we will really be on to something. We will establish expertise driven by an experience base that should help lots of folks with weapon selection

OK, HC& Bobby, you have the point, but everyone chime in so I can disregard your input and decide what I want instead!!!!!

Seriously let's get to working on this

"Handgun Reviews by Real Man Staff" (suggestions)
"On Target"
"Get a Grip"
"Range Reports"

We might want to consider hand size when we file a review - I've got average size hands, but favor .45s so someone might consider that (with larger/smaller hands) when they read something I write-up compared to a review by someone with sausage fingers and wide palms.

For example: (my hand)
Wrist to tip of longest finger = 7.5"
Width across top of knuckles spread = 3.75"
Trigger finger = 3"
