Came home at 0130 from Senior Prom supervision and applied Grub killer in a tux in the dark.......peaceful AND managed to miss every doggie landmine somehow!

After 2.5 hours of sleep, awoke at 0500 to restless mutts in the basement whom I put off until the auto-brew kicked to life on the java pot!  Discovered and installed the new "Nest" smart thermostat that was on the front porch.  Now awaiting rain to come and water-in grub killer so I don't have to eyeball the dogs so they don't eat grass & woodchips laced with said grub killer.

Well I found and fixed his...

Had a rotten valve stem I needed to change.
Popped the tire off and Holy smokes...broken spring.

Of course I've used up all my spares unbeknownst to me.
Luckily my buddy had an axle hanging kit at work.
Went and grabbed it and had U-bolts.
Had to pare a 5k spring back a couple leaves.
Hopefully it is about right.

Packed all the bearings while I was at it as well.
I just don't want to wind up missing a digit or limb.  I can sometimes get in a hurry to get results.

05:00, coffee. Watched trump not bow to the Saudi king. Got to the shop and replaced a controller and temp probe on a smoker I'm refurbishing for my dad. Bad igniter. Amazon order.

Poured rain for an hour. Did inside chores with the youngest. Cleaned both bathrooms, washed dishes, did a load of clothes, swept the floors. Went into town for chicken wings and to return some stuff to lowes and HD. Went to tractor supply and picked up a 25ton log splitter. Got home, fed the fish, split some wood. Took a shower and had leftovers for dinner. Whooped the youngest at rummy.

Tex, don't throw any big twisted forks at that 25 ton. I broke my 40 ton more than once doing that......

But all in all that splitter looks like a nice unit. :likebutton:

What happens when the break Sean?  This one was right for the money. Walks out with it for $900 as opposed to $1200. Good enough for what I have to deal with.

Depends on the design, I've welded the end plates back on other people's more than once (they ripped off the end of the I-beam). My old one I clean ripped the splitting wedge off the back end. Essentially the twisted piece of wood weakened the steel around the welds enough that after it fatigued more it just tore loose. Nothing you can't fix with a welder.

Good to know. As long as it's not a catastrophic explosion of metal shards like a shop press and a bad Ford axle bearing.....

FYI: hardened metal explodes, structural steel (regular plate, angle, channel etc) tears it does not explode. You will see the end result coming most likely. When I tore the splitting wedge off of my splitter the welds holding it on were triple pass btw........

I started using the XDP stuff about 50k mi ago because it was inexpensive but felt like it made an improvement. I ran out about a month ago and bought some Diesel Kleen to use in the meantime. It may be all in my head but I don't like it as well.

I'll just leave this here.

In addition to this I did some box blade work split more wood had my little one help stack it. The. Weeded the garden and harvested some chard, cucumber, sugar snap peas, cherry tomato, and some jalapeño. And then planted a watermelon and some zucchini.

Wife and kids and I went to visit some friends 3 hours away. So we took the camper and made a weekend of it. First night ran out of propane but we had an electric heater. It was in the 30s pretty chilly. Drove home yesterday in 20-30 mph winds. Lost a window. I don't know where it went or where I'm going to find another one.

Got some junk buried.  All the lathe and plaster, bricks from 2 chimneys and other various garbage from the remodel was just pulled out of the house and dumped in the back corner of the property.  That was almost 2 years ago now and I have been wanting to get it cleaned up for some time.  I rented a mini-excavator and used my uncles Kubota to take care of it this weekend.

At this point I had already started pulling some of the debris into a hole.

The excavator made pretty quick work of digging a hole.  I ended up hitting the water table and my hole started filling with water.  I could have went deeper but didn't want to add any more wet soil to the mix.  We have been getting plenty of rain and it was already wet enough.

Holes dug, junk buried and then covered.  I have some really heavy soil with a bunch of clay in it.  Makes it hard to do anything with, especially with how wet it is.  Hopefully it will dry out enough for me to work it a little bit and level stuff out.  Looks a lot better than it did though.

I was pretty impressed with the performance of that Kubota tractor.  I didn't think it was going to be able to push as much of that heavy soil around as is did.

Sold the trailer on Sat, and bought a boat on Sunday. '95 Larson 20ft bowrider w/ a 4.3L Mercruiser w/ radiator and EZ load single axle trailer. Custom Seahawks interior got my attention, but the outdrive is new, all new stainless braided hydraulics, most of the electrical has been updated, new bilge, pretty new tonneau cover and only 240hrs.

edit: screen shot has facebook crud on it, but I can't seem to crop it. oh well.

Nice score Tate, you know the 2 best days right?

Good looking boat Tate. Those 4.3 mercruisers are pretty solid. Had one in a 20 ft that would do 57 flat out on a perfect surface.   Buying used makes all the difference.  I had mine for 3 years and only lost $2000. Sold it back to the place I bought it from.

Highly recommend what is called a "topsider".

Spent the last four hours contemplating backup storage scenarios and cloud backup. I'm officially in analysis paralysis.

Did get a new pair of salomon speedcross in the mail from Amazon today so it wasn't a total waste

I like the salomons so much I keep two pair. One to wear with casual clothes and the other to work out and just work in. When the latter gets worn out is about the time I've soiled the newer pair and I just rotate down and buy a new pair.

Not bad. I paid $84 for my black speedcross on Amazon. If you find discontinued models you can get them cheap.

Yes, and it still smells like... victory. TBH I wasn't thrilled about the coloring, I'd have done more away grey and blue, but it's woven mesh, new foam and not cracked failing vinyl w/ rotted foam so I'm not going to complain... too much.

Made my wife happy. She's been wanting her iPhone to play music in her SUV and I finally made it by the custom stereo place and they had the gizmo I couldn't seem to find on the web. 20 minutes in and out and she can control it all from the steering wheel controls.

And watched my oldest win student of the year in math at her school in 7th grade

Kids today don't know how easy they have it. When I was young, I had to walk 9 feet through shag carpet to change the TV channel.

Just finished damage assessment on the dock.
It's been two boating seasons since it's seen land.
Overall not too bad. Some minor damage to weld up.
I pulled a float bottom off... still frozen to the ground.
So that is extra work now.
I'm planning on putting my collection of bent 3500# axles under it for easier land movement.
I have three, and have a use for them now. The fourth is under the car trailer, and will soon become 5000#, more fitting for a car hauler IMO.
I just don't want to wind up missing a digit or limb.  I can sometimes get in a hurry to get results.

Nice TRN on both counts.

I don't miss real winters.

I tolerate my 511 boots. One of these days I will get something really nice that fits. I used to wear Rockys at work. Made for walking on pavement, felt great just haven't ponied up the $$ for them since I retired.

Actually got to use the truck as a towpig today. Most of the time it is just a grocery getter and kid taxi.

Hauled a buddy's new-to-him Ford 8N tractor.... Man, I tell ya, I'm always towing Fords... 1929 Fordson tractor for my Uncle a while back, then this buddy's F150 (in the second pic), now this tractor... ;)

Cool seeing old tractors that have been restored  (or just taken really good care of). I'd love to have some acreage to need an old JD 4020.

Been running like a chicken with my head cut off lately. Helping Mom get into assisted living, co tractors at her house, contractors at my house, going to Mom's town boards about selling her additional land. It.just.sucks. sheesh
