Found a 10k load distribution hitch at a garage sale today, $20  :beercheers:

Heard that 1-2 syllable names are best when you train them. Helps with commands?

Looks like the Eclipse trip is out. 2 kids don't want to go with the first week of school,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,

Finally made it back from behind enemy lines.  Multiple delays and mechanical issues and crew timing out. Put us home 03:00 CST

Airplane mechanical issues?

Crew timing out sounds like a part 135 operation.

Don't know what "part 135" is but the crew wouldn't have timed out had the gate personnel been able to count. On our stop in PHX we had to change planes due to mechanical issues and when they let us through passengers on before picking up the PHX to HOU passengers they screwed the count and had to go through the plane by name which kept us from pushing back before the flight crew timed out.

Well that sucks Charles.

I'm currently burying my 'water main' from the shoreline to the cabin.
Nothing fancy, about 12" down, trying to maintain slope.
Not overly worried, as I'll RV antifreeze it before winter anyway.
That and the 6-8 vertical feet of slope will keep held water to minimum.
I just don't want to wind up missing a digit or limb.  I can sometimes get in a hurry to get results.

Being tortured by the neighbors kid (25?) still lives at home and a wannabe drummer with a band. Being tortured for the last 6 years 'cause they practice in their basement, and being n spite of LOTS of practice, they still offend my musical senses.  Today, they're playing poolside in the backyard and without the filter of two foundation walls and 200 feet of open air THEY STILL SUCK!  They can play their instruments, but are devoid of rhythm (unified), intonation and harmony whatsoever.  They're currently Killingly playing "sweet home Alabama" in such a manner that diabetics could listen to it repeatedly and actually watch their blood sugar levels drop!  I fear that having turned 54 this past week has classified me as "that old guy", BUT they're MURDERING classic rock and making me want to toss several buckets over the fence so they MIGHT be able to carry a tune AND lottery tickets so they can MOVE OUTTA THEIR PARENTS BASEMENT!

So today, I finished the new fence out front.  With near 100 degree heat going on a month now the ground is hard as a rock.  I rented one of these

I highly, no...very highly recommend one of these if you are driving posts.  It struggled in some of the hardest rocky soils but powered on down none the less.

I learned a few lessons on my first barbed wire fence.  Never reuse old material.  Wire, fence posts, or wire ties.  Its just not worth the effort and new posts, wire and ties are fairly cheap comparatively.  Pics later when I get a phone with a camera that works.

Oh and when I go to fence the other 3 sides in the future I may buy one.  $1500-$2000 depending on the model but I'd pay that in a heartbeat to avoid driving 300 posts by hand.

TRN, there's another trick people are using to install posts, a water pick type thing. I'll see if I can find one.

I didn't think your new addition was 300 posts in total length or is that for everything you have?

We will head further from civilization, south west MT is in the current running as are parts of the Tuck if I can stand the thought of humidity again???? Idaho might make the list as well just haven't made it up over there yet for a visit.

After this summers trip my oldest has been eyeing college in MT hard. Apparently there were around ten seniors from this years class at her school that went up there for less expensive tuition & the fact they allow us Coloradans to pay in state tuition is an added bonus.

Wyo, no the 300 would be what would likely be needed for the other 2 sides.  I've seen the hydroexcavation stuff, but the concern I have is it would not be as stable as a plain driven post?

Shawn, i have to fight my wife on moving somewhere with snow.  If it were up to me itd be MT or ID.

After this last week in CA she may decide to divorce me and live on the coast......

TRN, a friend here in AZ had probably 50 posts put in with a water pick, once it dries they're solid as if pounded in. The 50 that were put in were to keep a horse and a donkey in. Fence has shown no signs of movement yet.

You sir, have a good size lot! If I had time I'd come do the fence for ya.

I never liked visiting there either, fact of the matter I just passed up a few days in Huntington Beach less than a month from now.......

Honestly, I might have gone had I not traveled so much this year already. That and I'd rather be around my kids right now as things seem a bit screwy.

I got tired of replacing pine straw every few months so I finally raked it all up.  I used landscape timbers to section off the shrubs, stained them dark walnut, and filled with much.  Ill get a pallet of sod next week and cover the dirt.  I dont know why I didn't do this earlier.  :beercheers

Looks good.  Make sure to put down some lime to combat the acidity of the pine needles.

Wyo, I'll have to check out the water pik.  Wonder if its cheaper?  The gas driver is very portable and requires no air or water.

JR. if she could spend every week what we spent last week i'm sure she'd make it work......

Mulch...Dangerous stuff

I burned the grass in my flower bed, then discovered mulch will also burn. Then I discovered the plastic cover over the electric service will also burn, and turn into molten plastic, which will drip over this thing which had three really thick wires attached to it. Then I learned that when one takes a rake to beat the flames down, and that same rake hits those really big cables that you don't just get sparks, but the part that touches those cables explodes, then falls onto the cables then really gets going.

I learned all those things!

So, yea, back to mulch. Neighbor laid down rubber mulch. I like it, going to put that down myself. Maybe it won't burn as quickly.

Should have seen the electric company people who had to dig all that up and replace those cables. They were not the talkative types...nope, all business.

OK, off to the eclipse!

We once hit one of those phone lines that had like a hundred wires in them. That guy was very talkative, albeit all curse words....  in our defense line wasn't marked and we gave them the normal notice.

On another job our electrician gave notice & waited. Exactly once the time was up he fired up riding trencher and dug his trench. Note, this was right next to a mobile home park. Only people that didn't show up on time to mark was the local cable provider. They showed up about 3 hours too late. Cable guy walks up to electrician and tells him "I'm here to locate our cable lines." Electrician, "no need to son I already did it for you!" As he walks the several hundred foot of trench and about every 15' pulling up cut ends......

I can vouch for the mild climate in Chile. Uruguay is very expat friendly as well and gives you a good exchange for your dollar but is a little more, "Florida esque" climate wize

Had to put down my oldest rooster today. It was a hard thing to do but he challenged me this morning. I Had to smack him with a feed scoop and he came right back. I broke him of that once before but he got back to his old crap. I can't have that with young boys around. I don't know if this eclipse had anything to do with his behavior or what but he took me by surprise.

Go buy a rigid, I had one so smoking hot that the rubber hand guard was coming off cutting small lugs off a set of boggers. Years later that saw is still going strong!

If I changed it would be Dewalt probably. 1st of their tools I have hurt and I was pushing this hard. Was doing an overhead cut with the junk falling in the shaft, frozen solid.

Did you lose your voice by looking at the sun?  :)

Hm didn't think that was possible! But I was inside at work actually working during that solar event.

Out protesting at a statue again Bobby?

Far from it. I honestly have no idea, yesterday it started getting scratchy in the morning, then the afternoon is was slipping and this morning I woke up and it was basically gone. I can still talk just not very much.

It's been a. Busy couple of weeks since my new baby girl was born.  I've been getting more sleep than any human should be allowed, and found hours on the clock that I hadn't seen since the last time we had a newborn. Lots of time to think and practice sleep walking while rocking back and forth holding s baby. :).  We sold our raw land we owned here in northern Kentucky, then just yesterday closed on the new house.   The seller has been letting us take some stuff down ahead of closing, but we didn't want to get crazy with it, so now we'll begin with getting furniture and other items moved. Luckily it's only 40 minutes from old house to new, so it's not a bad drive.

We now have a nearly 5000 sq ft home, a 6000 sq ft garage and another 1000 sq ft house with a basement under it, all on 64 acres of land.  Considering we are coming from 1850 sq ft in a subdivision, we are all really excited. I'll post up some pics of the new place to prove it exists later in the day.   Now I have to get serious about getting that tractor, doing some improvements on the house and getting things moved. Wish me luck!
