The little ones taste better than the big ones and does better than boars.

Most pig shots are 75-200 around here. I’d use an ACOG 4x with a reflex optic on top. Of course that’s a pretty pricey optic but it’s great for hunting all kinds of varmits with an AR. Both two and four legged.

They are delicious. The cleanest, best tasting pork you’ll ever have. Boars are good to eat until they reach sexual maturity. Around here that’s 100-125lbs. The one on those pictures is a young boar that weighed 86lbs if memory serves me right. A sow is good to eat for much longer.
I like this if hogs are the only things I’m looking for. 16” hammer forged BCM, Geissele SSA trigger, Vortex Viper 1-4

Down here we can kill them by the truck load too, all year.  They are good eating.  Hard on a knife blade but you fix that by using a razor knife for the hide.  I have used a bow, muzzle loader, AR or anything that makes good deer medicine.

Where I have access they come and go sporadically and Alabama doesn't allow night hunting. Georgia or Texas is where it's at for hogs. Y'all work out the location and I'll bring a spare AR for BigDave.  :beercheers:

What are all of your thoughts on the release of trumps public land for public use.  Here in Utah?

I don’t know all the details but from my limited understanding he is scaling back fed overrreach.

Is Utah not a sovereign state? It’s Utah’s land not the feds, hard for me to see the downside to this action.

Funny you ask, that’s on my list of things to research today. What I know now: Because fed land is in held in public trust, we all have access to it to do the things we enjoy. It is ours, each one of us are public land owners. I think that is a good thing. It’s one of the many things that sets us apart from the lesser countries of the world. My fear is that we (hunters, hikers, atv riders, birdwatchers, etc) will lose access to that land if it it turned over to the state. I have zero faith that a politician wouldn’t start selling off chunks of land in order to balance a state budget. On the other hand, if resources can be extracted from it, without permanently damaging it, and that would make the country more energy dependent, I’m ok with that also.

I don’t entirely know that it’s going to be up for sale or not.  I have heard plenty of talk about it being used by the people and ranchers but farmers.   But the parts I am struggling to find is where people come up with the idea that we normal folks can’t camp on federal land or national parks.  Yellow stone is a national park and you can do all of that kind of thing there.  I don’t have any personal gain or loss from this.  Does it put my state back in control of my area yes,  that seems good to me.

Everything I looked at tonight is garbage that is so far left or so far right that it’s hard to see the middle

All I need to know is that its less federal government control.  Our founding fathers wanted states control over their sovereignty.  Imagine the reaction in the late 1700s had the federal government laid claim to millions of acres of state land?

less overreach is always a good thing...agreed. Fed land is often not available for use. There are many large areas of Fed land that are heavily restricted. The grand canyon comes to mind.

The Utah deal..... Trump doesn't want Romney to be in office.. so he gave Utah back their Uranium land that Obummer swiped in trade =P

No doubt much of this is true. But Trump is the real deal. If he can do something right by real Americans while pissin' in the wheaties of folks like Romney, I'm sure he relished in killin' a bunch of birds with one swipe of the pen.

Note: Seems like ever since Obummer's reign (Aptly chosen word) our president is more and more like a king. Ruling through executive order. I love it when the guy in the white house lines up with a free and constitutional America, but hated it when the Muslim homosexual ruled the land.

I met Romney in Houston.  He was too by the book to win and Washington would have eaten his lunch.  I would have still preferred him over BHO but it would have been like sending an English setter to do battle with a rabid pit bull.

So the kids went back into the woods today to “build a wigwam”.  I think great, they need to get outside and run around. Probably an hour later, I hear my wife laughing and come inside and she tells me they got a Christmas tree, and it’s a big one. They brought back a 17’ tall spindly cedar tree , that’s after they cut it off about 4’ front the ground. I just laughed and said, bring it in. Found out my ceilings are only 13’ in the area we put the tree in. So they got the ryobi chainsaw and cut some off the bottom in the middle of the living room. I think this will be a new family tradition. More fun for everyone and less work for me.

I love living in the country.

Animal crackers?

Always askin' for too much!

But now that I think of it, you knuckleheads have worked your butts off (Messin' up threads, generally DOTin up the place and talkin' enough to create a small windstorm.)

So, since I'm in the spirit, all mods and the like, go ahead and take a 15% pay raise, and a 10% annual Christmas bonus too!

Merry Christmas, Boneheads!

Lets see what did I do yesterday?

Bought a battery for Moms car. Edged her sidewalk, fixed a outlet, hung her Christmas lights. That ruined most of the morning.
Chased my wife with a chicken liver for a few minutes, picked up one of the kids school projects. Swung by the lumber yard to acquire some more deck screws. Dropped my wife's Schnauzer Dog at the groomers and then drove back across town to give my wife the pickup while I then took her Mustang which should be in storage but isn't.... because of yet another Dodge "issue"

Then I arrived at the gun shop, negotiated on a nice never fired Ar15 complete upper...Nate walked in, I showed him the new shop. He showed me his new city pickup (nice) We discussed matters of importance, got interrupted a lot because people discovered I was in town. Nate left because he was hungry... I then finally bought said AR15 upper because I am a tough negotiator. Lets see....

Stopped at the parts palace ordered a new flywheel/clutch for the yellow junker. Picked up my grandson and we went out to the air field and spun donuts in grandmas Mustang for a few minutes.

Then I took him back to our place and we spent some quality model train time instead of dry-walling like we were supposed to be doing. My wife then arrived home, made a fine supper, we watched Street outlaws on the DVR. The rest of the night was rather quiet....mostly.

Kids today don't know how easy they have it. When I was young, I had to walk 9 feet through shag carpet to change the TV channel.

WDYDT (What Did You Do Today)
« Reply #5245 on: December 08, 2017, 08:23:33 AM »
I have been into calculus and doting to the best of my ability.   At home the wife planned a trip to LA for Christmas so we can see all the burning. I than called. mikeL to see if he wanted a crack at my 75 mph pulse issue in my truck “yep” he said and “I’ll give ya a ride in my new hellcat”. So we are driving two cars to LA dropping the chev off than going south to some beach.

Ordered a replacement dog bed for said bad dog

Went to work knowing there was nothing to do but sit and get paid,
Lunch with manager to explain to him the financial reason work is slow,
Drove to campus and spent the night prepin for a calc final

Men.... It snowed in Texas before it snowed in Nebraska. Something has shifted in the worlds balance. Square D maybe?

TRN.... You and Nate are starting to influence me into the concept I should eat more meat. My small figure is going to suffer.

Hey did you guys know when your scoring knife gets dull, and you take it apart to change the blade and drop them down the floor register, that you can score drywall with your wife's butcher/meat cleaver? For those of you doing such projects I felt I would share this new found knowledge.

Like Dave’s calculus final, Nate. Does not compute in Texas!

Brisket was 14lbs. Pork buts we’re 6-7. One butt was stubborn and took 2 hours more than the others to come to temp and be tender. It was cold last night and I burned 20lbs of pure mesquite pellets

norm, best advice I can give is to just give in and let the meat take over........and how did you get a hold of kays kitchen knife when you know that you are not even allowed to look at or in the direction of her kitchen......hahahahaha (hopefully you put it back washed before she got home)

does rec tec have the thermal blankets for those?  thats a small brisket, is that for you and the family or is that going for your christmas party?  if its going for your christmas party, dont blink when its served because it may disappear pretty quick.
