Ok, so my el cheapo Stanley ones (well at least one of them) were destroyed in a horrendous construction accident building the framework for my back deck. Long story short a 2x10 heavy, wet treated drop fell on the lower support which didn't even blink much less put up a fight.

So with that stated I'm ready to invest in a new set. I've viewed a few different versions on this site. So what are you guys using?

Don, for the record I've viewed your wood & cardboard stuff plenty of times as with everyone else so no need to reply with that crap btw......

I use the metal foldable ones with a 2x4 screwed to the top.

Lowes has some pretty cool wooden ones. And I think they come in a HD cardboard box, so you could get some welding projects done as well! ;-))

I have a set of these with a 4 x 4 screwed to the top. they are the base for my garage table when not needed as dedicated saw horses.

OK, so here's the final update. I try to be frugal with my funds and as such hate buying tools more than once. This is my third and hopefully last set for a good while. I took your guys up and went to Lowes and looked at those sheet metal units. Then sitting right next to them were the high dollar units made by Rockwell. So I ended up spending some good money and purchased two of the Jawstands. Pretty much everything I do is by myself and this acts as an extra set of hands depending on the job. The adjustability and versatility of these units is what sold me and lightened my wallet all in one fail swoop. I have used them several times and they are handy and seem to hold up to drops of 2x12's on the legs. The powder coat gets a little scuffed but nothing has bent or broke just yet. They came fully assembled which was a nice feature.

Come on JR, the jawhorse would be way out of his "budget", and it has way more levers/buttons to figure out! haha

I think he did comment on one of our pics of the jawhorse, but I think he was wanting a more traditional style (read:cheap)... maybe.

The Jawhorse costs the same as the 2 stands he just got. I think the lever/button count is about the same.

But I know what you mean about the Jawhorse. It folds up compact (good) and is heavy (solid) using a knob leg locks. Using it requires moving the lock lever up-down and pushing on the lever to apply force. That does seem like a lot of effort for the masses, but a few guys here could do it,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,

Oh and since it is a little on the heavy side, it has a roller to move it around!!

Well, it's wood, I wouldn't weld on it on purpose!
But like everything else, in the end, after all, it's flat and if I'm lookin' for a place to weld, well, there you have it

I'm curious about the expansion joint pattern in that garage?

Oh, and don't pay attention to the guys giving you a hard time about your choice. As I always say to a certain friend of mine. When you stroke the check, the only one that has to be happy is you!

Technically concrete speaking the "expansion joint" is the 1/2" thick foam board they put in between two slabs of concrete. Normally you see it in between the parking area in front of a garage and the house foundation. What you were referencing are the control joints.

I'm not sure why they did the angle groove like that, we never did those in a garage floor. The only time I ever did angle cuts was along the perimeter of another slab say where it intersected and inside or outside corner of the other slab. I do know that they do not warrant any flat work (besides the basement floor) on any new homes in CO. This is primarily due to bentonite (believe that spelling is correct) in the soil which is fairly unstable. We always said there are two types of concrete, cracked and stuff that will crack........

& as far as what these guys say I deserve every bit of it for the amount of grief I dish out around here, it's all good.........
