There are situations where I wholeheartedly agree. I've used the hand on gun first and stop with verbal commands first techniques. Heck, one time I didn't say a word, just drew my gun and prepared myself to pull the trigger. It seems to me that article is written for the situations where people attempt to get close with a ruse before turning violent.
