New Grapple and pallet forks
« on: March 09, 2017, 12:05:30 PM »
To support the Sawmill that I just purchased and do a ton of other work around the place, I picked up a very heavy duty grapple bucket and a set of 48" pallet forks from a firm in Alabama.

When I get more information or pics, I will post up

Those will be handy additions to the hide.
Just remember there are weight limitations to the tractor...

Oh, thanks for clarifying that these are for a tractor. I though they were for some mod on SquareD. The grapple would be handy for grabbing the back of a running truck for a not so fast getaway, like a redneck trailer hitch.

He has been talking about an excavator for a while now, one with a thumb.  That will do the heavy lifting if needed.

I can see you getting some quality tractor bonding time down at my hide.

Someday, maybe

But an Excavator first. Something between a Kubota KX-80 and a Case 160 say 20K-25K machine that I can actually afford

Have you looked on ironplanet at all? I see them in my email frequently, as in atleast weekly. Sure it'll take you time to find one close enough to be worth it, but they're there. I think I looked at some items just last week in VA, while not overly close, its closer than Florida or Texas where a lot of big auctions are.

I'd go to the mil auction for ex-mil gear...Want an LMTV

But nothing else

Auctions are great places to buy someone else's junk

Remember a couple years ago I was buying that Kobelco 200 Excavator?

During the sale, their own mechanic figured out it had a drive going out. After that, they refused to sell it to me. They are good people at that Southeastern Equipment store.

Know what happened to it?

Yup, sold at an auction.

Those LMTV are cool. Much less profile than a 6x6.

Are they all electronic though and can they use any fuel?

JP8 is the standard fuel which is a jet fuel close to diesel. Therefore, I'd have to say they could live on a diet of JP5 which is Jet-A, Diesel 1 or two, JP-4, Jet A+, and some mo-gas but not too much in the mix

Those things are just the right size for a ranch truck.

Is the injection system EMP proof at all?

Yes, this I can personally attest to. We owned a M925A2 for a short spell, licensed it out of FL cause wife is Florida resident, less then 100$ for lifetime plate. Insurance is the kicker, because of GVWR you have to have big truck insurance.

Every state is different but from what I recall Texas is green iron friendly.

KY, don't know, but would bet it would be relatively easy.

Steelsoldiers.com would have more on every state.

When we buy another one, it's going to be the M936, because who doesn't need a giant wrecker!

I know you can't register a military HMVV here now. Looks like the LMTV has a teer 3 emissions label so it might be OK in most states, but they kill you here on heavy vehicles.

Still think it would make a great ranch truck for 5K.

Yeah we can fix that. Just like a unimog where you can get custom cut portal gears. One way or another we can make that a puppy go 80!!

I looked into it. The guys building those things also build some other armored thing for the Armee. And that other thing has "High speed axles" which allow for 70mph with same engine/trans/tune

BTW, the LMTV utilizes a Cat diesel, a 3204 I think. Therefore any cat dealer alive can increase the power of that motor a bunch with just a tune download...FYI

If it has a drop in center for the axles that would be nice. I think they are worm drive. The 2;1 hubs limit changes there.

Turbos do have upgrades, the 5ton and 2.5ton use diff turbos.

Dag-gone JR, you're ginnin' up my interest again...I have managed to suppress it for a time, but I do feel like I will own one of these trucks, with the high speed axles, and a very nice slide in camper mounted on the back...All painted an appropriate olive drab of course!

This little tractor has a series 200 loader, whereas the larger tractor has a series 400 loader. Both loaders and a host of other JD tractors share the same mount, allowing me to swap the ever increasing number of implements around as I deem necessary

The root grapple, or rock grapple, or whatever you want to call it is no joke. This thing is massive, and so heavy, the little tractor using the pallet forks could only lift it maybe two inches!

What does "dating" (ahem you know) a fat girl and riding a moped have in common?  They are both a lot of fun but you wouldn't want your friends to see you doing it.

I bought a set of forks for a friends tractor, they are amazing, but I paid more than twice what you did and they were probably Chinese pot metal. Look forward to the million and one ways you use the new tools!

Haha, that small tractor with a grapple gave me a laugh.  You should send that picture back to the manufacturer and complain that you are having trouble lifting logs with it.   Oh to see the look on their face!

I purchased one of their smaller set of 36" pallet forks over a year ago.  I would have liked the larger back support piece that yours have, but with my size tractor I didn't want to give up any more lifting weight than I had too.  They have successfully lifted countless pallets of random things, a refrigerator, furniture, logs, and somewhere around 900 lbs of rubber flooring.  That was the absolute limit to what my loader can pick up, but the forks handled it fine.

I was just thinking that the grapples would be a great way for my wife and I to have some quiet alone time. "Hey kids, lets see if you can all fit in there so I can take a picture". Then shut the tractor off and go on a date.
