Coconut oil
« on: April 22, 2017, 08:52:07 AM »
So I stumbled across this being used for sunscreen & my daughters already use it for a number of girly things. I then wondered how many uses there are for this substance & come to find out it looks like one article which I'll list below shows 77 uses. Maybe this is something I should stock more of now. It lasts for up to 3 years, this has so many uses wasn't sure where to put it so I threw it in here.

https://draxe.com/coconut-oil-uses/

& this link shows 101

there is also studies that show it helps inflammatory diseases, like Crohn's
Kids today don't know how easy they have it. When I was young, I had to walk 9 feet through shag carpet to change the TV channel.

We use coconut oil for quite s few things around the house, from cooking to cosmetics. Put a good spoonful in our stovetop popcorn popper instead of veggie oil, gives the popcorn a good fresh taste. If you do anything with essential oils, it is a real good carrier oil or for dilution. My wife uses it for cleaning off the war paint at night, cuts through all the crud and moisturizers st the same time.   We buy ours in bulk, by the gallon from A company called Soapers Choice.

I put some coconut oil in my coffee to try it out.... once! It smelled like an Almond Joy candy bar, but it most definitely did NOT taste like it.

We have a big gallon jar of the semi-solid form of the stuff. I had no clue what to use it for!

We get the cold pressed, unrefined stuff from Costco and use it every day. My wife uses it for makeup removal and skin moisturizing, but we also put it into our morning coffee (with some sweetner) and blend it in the blender to froth it up like a cappuccino. Even use it as a teeth whitener... and it works great.

So since we now have a CSM on the board does that mean walking on the grass and putting hands in pockets is now verboten?

My wife likes to use it for a lot of things.  She uses it in solid form for lotion type stuff and cooking.  I personally don't care for it when she cooks with it.  Probably because I cook everything in butter.  She also has it in a liquid form that she uses with her essential oils.

Bobby,

if you don't blend it, like he stated you wind up with a slightly coconut flavor oil slick on the surface. blended is OK but careful you don't use too much or you wind up with excessive lubrication of internal hydraulics and waste management systems.

There was an oil slick. I blended it, well I put it in the coffee and mixed it with a spoon. But I didn't put my coffee in the blender, I think for hot coffee that's a crime.

Trust me, I agree with you. I had to "try" the butter coffee trend too when facebook told her to. the blender was the only way to make it work, but yes, criminal. Black and in a cup works great for me.

I always drank my coffee black, until I started doing it this way a couple of years ago. Unlike a certain helicopter pilot we all know, who has to foo foo it up with all kinds of chemical sweetners before he's able to take a sip :)

I at least converted said helicopter pilot to use "bourbon creme" to lighten and sweeten his coffee.....while the supply lasted!  Given that he's in the motherland for such libations, there really is no excuse for him to have strayed for said conversion, except for the obvious fact that his hefty intake of said liquid would probably ended with him visiting Betty Fords Clinic.

Well, I'd still walk on the grass, put my hands in my pockets and have a beard (if I let one grow again) so HA.
