Playing with the flush mount windows. They work exceedingly well!

2
BTW, the thing was all wobbly, so I set it down on two automotive jackstands and a 52" piece of 2x6 fir and got most of the wiggle out of it. It is resting solidly in those jacks while still having all the electric post jacks still contacting the ground as well.

3
After that, I buttoned it all back up and with only an extension cord running from a 15 amp wall receptacle, I turned the thing on.

It ran flawlessly for about 35-40 minutes, when, fully satisfied it was working without issue, I turned it back off again.

This is a huge success, which means I can carry just my small 2K HF generator to power the AC if needed during this summer's adventures...Yippee!

4
You will need to crimp on several space ends, male and female, but after that, it is nearly a "plug and play" affair.

Apologies for the "ugly-foot" photo bomb!

5
Next, I removed the control center access cover where the capacitor is located.

6
The installation is straightforward and not difficult, although some parts of the install can be a little "worky."

I start by pulling off the fiberglass cover from the 10K roof-mounted unit.

7
Today I installed the soft start capacitor. Theory of operation: Normally when things like AC units start they pull a very heavy surge of power, and that is why some campers have 30 amp and others have a 50-amp power requirement. The idea is to shove a ton of amperage at the motor to overcome the resistance of getting a high pressure pump, for example to just start to move fluid.

The idea of a soft-start capacitor is to prevent that initial surge of power, and instead, allow power to just ramp up more slowly. This means it takes far less power to get an AC in this example to start. Of course, it will not be cooling as fast initially, but that is the price. Now on the good end, the power requirement for the camper falls dramatically, meaning we may be able to power the unit from more places, like an extension cord, or from a small generator.

That's what we will be testing today.

We are starting with a Briidea soft-start capacitor:

Thanks Big D, between weather and getting shop back making money this will slow down a bit soon. Quite a few projects in the pipeline. In addition we have a week in Yellowstone at fishing bridge campground (only campground with full hookups in the park) we booked a year ago coming up. Looking forward to checking out for a week. Doing some hiking, finishing a book and just checking out.
Good break!

You deserve it!

That corrosion doesn't look bad at all IMO.

Pressure washing and a wire wheel and coat over with HF rubberized UC and you're done if you feel you really need to do something.

Gotta love that Kali weather to keep things nice!

That looks really great! So you did the epoxy work yourself?

Reason for asking: I plan to build Kat a new kitchen table about the same way...Epoxy, steel base, and fairly similar size and shape.

I would have been building it already, but I was told I should be building a vanity for a granddaughter...

Glad its repaired and back to operational status

Thank ya!

And Kat is busily girlying up the inside...(gritting my teeth emoji)

Don, all my Glocks have the Ghost Rocket 3.5lb and it’s great.  Cant recommend it enough. In the weapons section ihave a post on the instal
I have heard a lot about that trigger. I would like to have something closer to 5lbs for a "combat trigger" but 3.5 would be nice to shoot. I think I'll pick one up and drop it in my gen 4 19. The kids G19 goes to him as is. I'm sure an armorer in his regiment can doll that Glock of his up any way he wants. Those guys get to build and customize their uppers in the Regiment! How cool is that!

Just picked up a brand spankin new Glock Gen 5, Model G19MDS

The Pre-Ranger is about two weeks, maybe a tad bit more from placing the 75th Ranger Regiment scroll on his left shoulder. Their sidearm is the Glock 19. Same as I carried in Baghdad and Kirkuk. I want to commemorate this significant accomplishment by presenting him with his own G19 during the proceedings somewhere.

It feels very G19 and has a pretty decent trigger. Came with three 15-round mags and the standard Glock stuff.

While I was there, I tried out a pair of G-19X pistols. I love the G-17 hand grip and the shorty G-19 slide, but the triggers were vague and indefinite at best. I squeezed the trigger of a new Army Sig, and, man, what a difference. The Sig is just so much better, both initial long pull and reset. The G10X had a normal reset trigger pull, but the first pull is just a long, forever pull without the feeling you are building up to the release of the hammer.

I just realized, in a couple of weeks, I can no longer call him a pre-ranger. From now on until he or I departs the world, he will always be a Ranger. It will be a part of his name and a part of his soul, forever...
I had several people there try the triggers out and they agreed that the Glock trigger needs some work/replaced.

Step son Damien is healing well from his burns. His next laser treatment to remove scare tissue is Monday (#4). The beginning of his ex boss criminal trial starts 16 Jun. Damien is still having some mental issues from the explosion.

So, Damien is still on the list for continued healing and recovery.

HOA must love both the tractor and camper in the driveway.
Haven't heard anything yet...

17
Oh, and the folding aluminum steps just showed up. I am no fan of the factory "Lunge and reach for your life" Factory single step. Good for a long ballistic stretch and for falling and twisting one's ankles, but little else.

18
There is quite a bit to come in the next 6 weeks before launch, but for now here it sits:

19
And just so I have a photo reference, here is the factory-installed Renogy LiPo 100 Ahr battery:

20
Everything worked when hooked up in the truck and the camera immediately paired to the monitor, however for some reason, I cannot get power to the camera from the supplied wire in the camper...Hmmm

I have sent an inquiry to Forest River to help sort this out.

21
I will mount the 7" monitor screen from one arm of my dash-mounted Bullit mount system. I am currently awaiting a 20mm ball to complete that mount setup. Ram conveniently provides a 12VDC power source right at the mount site!

22
Four screws later and the factory cover is off, and you can access the wiring. In my case I had to unclip the factory harness back to the receptacles and reinsert the new camera wires.

Then you tuck in the wires and reinstall the camera.

23
It fits in a prewired factory spot:

24
I picked up a Furion back up/rear view camera:

25
The skies looked angry, but after a couple weeks my flower beds are looking better. I have been shaping trees, pruning bushes, cutting in beds, and burning/pulling weeds.

26
And you may have noticed I went with a slightly smaller framed tractor this time. I find myself working in close quarters to buildings and wood piles and dirt mounds often enough. The larger tractors, although very capable, lack the maneuverability I want,

That and this newest generation of tractors is offering loaders of much greater capacity. My old Kubota MX6000 60HP utility tractor could lift 1,700 lbs. This new Kioti, 60-horsepower unit can lift a jaw-dropping 2650 pounds! That's right at a half ton more!

This smaller-framed tractor has category 2 hitch parts with extendable lower links and a cool lever on the backside that allows one to operate the 3-point from the back of the tractor! How cool is that?

27
I do not like ag tires if the tractor will ever be used near a nice lawn, and for years have used the R4 industrial tires. The newest tire out there is called an R14 and is a combo tire that is not as aggressive as an ag but not as slippery as an industrial:

28
And the new Kioti is nestled in the driveway where it will work for a couple weeks before going down farmside for some bush hog work.

29
And it was delivered!

I had the rear tires filled, a front aux hydraulics supply for a grapple installed, and the thing prepped for use.

It looks and sounds good. Here is the Kubota leaving it's old home at the farm:

Yesterday I was into pretty deep mud and spinning 5-6 tires near my farm. After all the rains, the road to my place is just about impassible. I went to fetch my dump trailer so I could haul in some stones to get a few more beds done during my spring cleanup. I am trying to transform the plant beds from mulch to stone over a several-year transformation. I am in the middle of that right now.

Afterward, I had the blue beacon wash it thoroughly. $56 later it was looking pretty good!

Agreed, 140+ days gone off site last year. It’s much easier when you live here. Although the wife is taking up valuable time now…..

It's funny, and I'm sure it is just me and the way I think from being a lifelong soldier, but when I read your response, Sean, this immediately came to mind:

So far as I know, we are still praying for JW in Colorado who suffers from a long difficult trial with his wife having cancer, him losing his job and so forth. He is at a low point with respect to his faith so we ask God to touch him with his love to restore him to a cheerful relationship with the King of the Universe.

We, no doubt have others who are in need of prayer

The holy spirit is tugging at me right this second. He is telling me we have one of our own here on this forum who needs prayer for a drinking problem. So, we need to lift this man up.

Any others needing prayer, or are requesting prayer for other situations that they are aware of, well, this may well be the very reason this site came into being. Post that here and we will lift them up.

Then if you don't mind let us know when that prayer is answered so we can thank God and get that good feelin' inside that we all get when we see the master doing his work.

God loves you!

The last prayer request thread got to be quite long, some 77 pages and spanning 8 years! Many of those situations have resolved with answered prayer.

So I decided to refresh the prayer thread and make it more current. I think that from time to time I will do this and in the future will try to close out various prayer requests as those situations resolve.

Phillipians 4:6
Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God.

Thanks for that, will continue to lift him up

Prayers are also requested for the people of Houston over to western Louisiana who are being flooded out right now. I believe our own Texas redneck is at ground zero in all that.

Ok, I have a very good friend from Colorado. His initials are JW, he’s been a marketing account vp for a lot of years. About a year and a half ago he was bought out from his role in a merger. Shortly there after his wife had breast cancer. He had her quit her job in the mortgage industry to concentrate on getting better. In addition he did not look for work, instead he took care of her and helped his son move cross country during all of that. He’s been shouldering alot recently.

Fast forward to this last summer and she is better after a double m and a couple follow up surgeries. At one time he was a Deacon in his Church, he’s kinda lost his way a bit spiritually. Him and I talk several times a week. He really needs to land a role and get back to work. In addition he needs to get back on the straight and narrow. We talk about faith a lot, he’s been beat up a bit and knows what he needs to do.

Anyhow, if you guys could add him to your prayers. Lift him up I’d appreciate it.

Sean:

Could you give us an update please? I want to see how the prayers are working...

3. The game with you combat arms folks is to always take advantage of the aviation people
4. Aviation gets more of the most expensive toys so our stuff is sought after amongst the lowly and smelly people we haul around! ;-)

You aviation types make it too easy! Always more focused on your rest plans and eating on fine china. Gives ample opportunity for us "smelly people" to reallocate some of that fancy gear y'all have that'll make our lives easier. LOL
Is there some sort of a problem with eating off of fine china?

Yea, I know your type.
I was the officer having to explain to the other commander why the "thing" was missing while in my possession!!!!!

:-))

If you'd a better job securing your gear, it wouldn't have been creatively reallocated. As a CWO, honestly, you should've known better. Especially in the SPECOPS community. LOL!
You would think so, but:
1. I'm none too bright
2. The folks I was surrounded with were masters of stealthy operations
3. The game with you combat arms folks is to always take advantage of the aviation people
4. Aviation gets more of the most expensive toys so our stuff is sought after amongst the lowly and smelly people we haul around! ;-)

One possibility for the gen set is a front mount for the truck. Maybe a receiver and hitch hauler kind of set up.
Thought about that
But
I don't like the idea much. From what I've seen of these setups, the truck gets long, and if you bump anything up front, well...

I have a "Fat lower lip bumper and rear step for the camper. There's enough room for a modest box there.

50
MUR: (Mundane Update Report) I have been getting a lot of little things done with the camper. Mostly I am seeing what it needs, where things fit, and ordering parts.

I ordered a Furoin 7" backup camera system. My Palamino is prewired for it so that installation will be easy and straightforward...Say goodbye to $540!!!

Next, I researched the Lippert ladder system. It's nothing big, just an expanding ladder with a couple of hooks to fit the ladder receptacle that is attached to my camper. Actually, I see no place to store that ladder, so dunno on that one. Maybe it will fit in the bed alongside the camper's body???

I ordered a soft start capacitor that should allow me to start the AC on 20 amps of power in lieu of the 30 it usually takes.

I noticed the camper rocks all over the place while sitting on the extended legs. so I am looking at a strut system to shore that up. we plan to dismount the camper in Wyoming for 4-5 days while we camp alongside a lake.

The slide and awnings work like a champ, so that's 100%, actually even better. Turns out the mechanics rebuilt the bottom of the slide-out with quality 3/4" plywood, whereas the factory built it with OSB. Holman motors overlaid that with aluminum sheeting to add strength and a moisture barrier. So, I guess its better than new!

I have been storing things, to determine where they need to fit and am knee-deep in figuring out how I will mount a generator to the back bumper. I am thinking I can get away with the solar and lithium support I already have if I add a small 2KW gas generator. So I want to add a cabinet to house the generator and get a little more storage space. Something like an upright wall locker will do, I am thinking.

So that's where it is today...Work continues as we close down to 7-ish weeks prior to departure on the big trip this year.
