1 1/4” 300psi rated airline
clamps are bolt style that fully wrap under itself. (think intercooler clamp)
fittings are just really large barb fittings.

compressor will run at ~125 psi when fully ‘charged’  and try to maintain that as air is discharged via blast hose. the blast pot has an incoming regulator to slow down or speed up air depending on surface being cleaned. i’ll try and explain alittle more when i have some time and can copy info from manual

the compressor should operate at 185cfm @ 100psi if i read the specs correctly. it’s roughly 3 cubic ft of air.. which is about 22 gal per second.. if i did my conversion right.

compressor brackets bolted on.

the 2 side by side bolts go through another piece of 1/4” flat bar as a washer that lips into the C channel supports under the trailer. i didn’t want to try and hit the C channel exact with the bolts since it’s 1” wide and i used 7/16” hardware. so i just made it pinch.

hannay hose reel with 100’ of 3/8” line for rinsing work after its blasted

air outlets. the bottom/rear one is going to solely be used for the blast pot.
the top/front one will be used to run all the other air stuff. water pump. utility air line. breather tank/filter system for the blast hood. etc.

no sir. they were a 4 in 1 4.5” gauge and a 2 in 1 4.5” with 4 single 2 1/16” digital gauges off to the side. the 4 in 1 was oil pressure, water temp, fuel and volts (i believe) and the 2 in 1 was speedo and tach (think reproduction 50s model chevy truck gauges) that each had their own comm wire from sensors. same with the digital ones. they were boost, EGT and trans temp. might have had another over there too. drawing a blank at the moment

i’ve always wanted one of those classic over unders from browning. they’re definitely a ‘pull out of the case, walk a knee high field with dogs for pheasant or quail and put back in the case’ kind of fun. beautiful.

i’ve fallen into the A5 collection of browning shotguns. and collection may be a stretch. but i have more than one. so it counts for me. hahah

i think i’m going to be running these gauges in the dmax. let me know when you get it all together and/or how you like the module add ons.
I didn't enjoy trying to stuff that much wiring in the dash, and it's too bad all of those add-ons weren't integrated into the cluster, but I understand why.
Also the Bluetooth is slow, and only works once you manually put the cluster in setup mode with a corded switch you have to mount to the dash.
I do like how you program the speedo, by measuring a mile (auto mode) or using GPS (manual mode) and you have to do that within the first 100 miles or it locks you out (I think). Easy.
...and it gives preset options for the fuel sender resistance for each of the different years for gm, and Ford's, etc.
 It's pretty trick imo.

.

hot damn. that’s what i’m talking about.

i thought it was slick that they have an option for plugging in to the OBDII for the LBZ.. but with all the add ons and options.. i’m more than sold

fitting from the tank reduced down to 1/2” for the AAOD pump

took about 1 day for me to take apart a perfectly good machine worth about as much as my powerstroke. hahah

since i’m not using it as a mobile (pot) i’m just sort of hard lining everything (not quick connect fittings)

water/rust inhibitor in. valves to fill the tank/supply the hose for cleaning the work once done

bolted it down with stainless hardware. bc.. why else? hahah

correct. also.. you paint with a much wider brush. it’s a 2” or so wide swath you can clean at one time as opposed to 1/2” or so that a sand blaster does. you have a lot of control with pressure and media usage to go from surface to surface. can do fiberglass boat hulls all the way to heavy truck frames. as soon as i get it operational i’m going to play around with it and see what all it can do. i’m very excited about starting this. not only for personal use with car restoration but as a viable business for 8 or so months a year.

So you pieced together your setup right? Any specs on equipment etc?

yessir. i speculate i saved ~$6-7k over ordering it direct from dustless. and i think i ended up with a nicer trailer/more heady duty.

still need some parts, pieces and hardware. but it’s nearly there.

the compressor is a rotair 185. 185 CFM @ 100 psi.

blast pot is a DB500 with electric dead man switch. 200 lbs of media and 20 gal of water per fill.

125 gal leg tank

flojet 5 GPM AAOD water pump.

i’ll try and update and i have/remember specs

What sort of work do you anticipate?

Ya know, you could probably land a municipal contract removing graffiti!

Be cool to mount a side facing blast apparatus, fixed of course, then drive alongside a long line of hippy cars.

i honestly don’t know what to expect. i’m thinking it’s going to be mixed car restorations, industrial renovation and maybe some city/commercial work. don’t know.

and.. i could make a side facing hippy removal nozzle.

it’s all here!

tiny little air operated pump. AODD

turned the compressor to have the controllers and air ends pointing towards the driver side. all the fluid drain and diesel fill as well.

125 gal leg tank for the water/rust inhibitor mix. all i need it some plumbing and to mount the air compressor to the deck.

hoping to have it mounted and possibly plumbed by next week. should be a fun machine to work. just hope the work is there! hahah

so.. started another 3+3 build with LMM/1000/263XHD.  2-4wd conversion. found a ‘79 HP D60 for a drop in square body swap and keep manual tcase from the duramax.

will be getting a fuel system (either kennedy or FASS)

EFI Live with DSP5.

thoughts on turbo? he’s pulling the built suncoast trans from his ‘08 truck before he sells it and put a factory one back in. i think his LMM truck currently has a 3794 garrett in his truck he’s driving now.  i think in his 3+3.. he’s looking for more power while retaining drivability.

once we start the actual build i’ll start another thread. but i wanted to ask this separately.

just cut straight down to just above the bottom curve to maintain correct length and square. then ground out the cut until the numbers matched. after that. tossed the bed on and burned it in to place.

much more better

so i checked the motor over just bc i hadn’t looked at it in awhile and found that the DS PTO cover was leaking. i had reused the old gasket from the allison and i guess it didn’t seal back up right when j reinstalled. anyway. i pulled it off and put a new on one. pleased with the way the insides looked

i put a new felpro gasket back on with the ever so slightest film of RTV around the very outside to help seal it up. i’m crazy hesitant to put RTV in or around a trans for fear of it floating around. but this was extreme outside of gasket and literally a film.. so i think i’m good. and it’ll be good and dry before it gets run again. i may do the same to the PS while i can bc it’s easy.

also.. any of you 6.6 guys ever seen this on the oil cooler/filter housing? i can’t seem to find the washers that seem to be leaking anywhere. all the rebuilds have the orings and larger crush washers did the coolant but not the copper ones under these bolts. unless i’m missing something..?

i know it’s cruddy .. and i think after looking at the pics realized what may have happened. when pulling the motor it may have hit something, squished the aluminum housing a bit at the seal/gasket area and caused it to start leaking. im going to get a brush and clean it off and see if i can’t locate it for sure. maybe just pull it off to give it a good cleaning anyway?

can anyone confirm that these are indeed just copper crush washers?

i really like how clean it is. towards the front of the bumper.. is there anything tying it to the frame? or all cantilevered from the rear mounts? i like how’s it’s a tad wider than the lower bed panel to act as a step too. but not wider than its widest point to keep it clean.

I also drove this thing home yesterday, about 10 miles. It was very lackluster.. sounded great but acted like the turbo wasn't lighting off. I was quite disappointed, so today I hooked up a boost gauge and threw some cleaner in the fuel. My employee went along on a test drive since he has more experience with turbos, and on the 2nd hard acceleration something happened and it smoked the tires in 3rd, about 35mph. Don't know what caused it, and really don't care. Now I'm happy with it.

it probably pulled the 5.3 filter through the box and ate it

either way.. good to hear.

does the truck have a waste gate? maybe it was stuck slightly open and needed a good beating on to loosen up.

Yes, I'm replacing the Pontiac blue wiper motor..
She has a horrible amount of vibration, even for a Cummins. Feels like the engine is sitting on the dash. It didn't do that when I was running it without the transmission so I'll have to figure it out.
..but man the brakes and clutch are pretty awesome. It's never felt that good. P/s is better also, even with the added weight.

for the vibration.. i don’t remember exactly how you mounted the trans to the cross member. was there a factory bushing or did you just bolt it right to the trans crossmember.

i know on my dads we bolted a piece of 2” channel to the trans that extended out wider than the trans bolt holes and used essentially 2 thick round body bushings about 8” apart (for twist stability and vibration dampening..)

so.. here’s the situation

with both As at the same level (jacked it up to achieve) both Bs are suppose to be the same height from the ground. they’re not. by a fair amount. (3/4-7/8”)

(this information was found from a diagram online)

the next question is where to cut (assuming that’s the decision)

see if this makes sense. since all the bolt holes line up and the frame is dead on square, cut up from the bottom at either points A or B towards the top with cab supported. stop maybe 1” from top of frame or until movement can be achieved. set bed back on. lower jack until bed/body gap along with middle and rear measurements line up. tack on place. removed bed reweld and grind back clean. plate frame on inside and then for added assurance, box it there as well

i think it all occurred by being even 1/16” out top and bottom of cut and ground sections. 1/8” of play overall could easily account for 3/4”+ out 5’ away. my buddy i’m working with thinks it’s something with the frame and not what we did. it’s at his shop. hoping i can show him that between human error and missing that single measurement it’s off. not a huge error at the cut but the effects are shown down the line/frame. i told him it was my fault. which it was. i didn’t fully research it to ensure i had all the info and reference points.

does this seem like a reasonable fix? anyone see any strength issues i’m missing?

Build Threads / Re: 3+3 2500

ok. so the bed is off for hopefully the final time. however, after some suspension about frame alignment, i found some C/K frame measurement diagrams.

and now there is some disturbing info. in my semi-haste to get the frame back together and just checking for square, it appears i was correct. the back of the frame is roughly 3/4” lower than it should be.

so.. question to both welders and body guys. should i cut the frame again and correct it? if i do cut.. do i cut it on same line i did originally or do i find somewhere else? i’m going to leave the top connected just to keep the length and square right.

or.. do i just body space the back up? i’d rather it be just frame..  :undecided:

Build Threads / Re: 3+3 2500

when doing these things.. i guess it’s expected that there will be custom mod on custom mod. this one included redrilled the safety chain hook holes. for some reason, they lined up with the interior slope of the next inboard corrugation. i couldn’t have that. so i lined the body up, measured out and redrilled to where the hooks sat center is the lower channel.

now that that is done and the rear cross member has been removed so the bed is sitting flat down on all 4 stringers.. i think the bed is ready to come off. along with the cab.

my real issue that i can see now is that the bed is sitting -1° down in the back while all the rest of the flat spots on the frame are at 0°? i even measured the rocker on the truck thinking it was off but it was dead on 0° too. any square body owners, do any of you have shims under the bed anywhere? i was worried that when i cut the frame and put it back together i dropped the tail end some but the rear section of frame all the way at the rear bumper is sitting at 0° as well. matches up to the section i cut both in front of an behind the cut, the main section under the cab and the flat section up front where the motor mounts bolt to the frame. i can’t tell where i’m off. or if my bed had shims under it from the factory. i don’t know but i just got the bed from a friend who pulled it out of a junk yard. i know it wasn’t as precise then as it is now.. i just want to make sure i didn’t royally mess something up or doing something wrong by shimming the bed and the cab some

also, the safety chain hooks will need to moved. in current location, they’re literally on the slope od the bed corrugations. so i’m going to move them 2” outboard so they’re in the bottom of the next channel.
