Title: Area 51

Area 51

You’ve all heard of the Air Force’s ultra-high-security, super-secret base in Nevada, known simply as Area 51.

Well, late one afternoon, the Air Force folks at Area 51 were very surprised when without permission or radio contact, a Cessna landed at their “secret” base.

They immediately impounded the aircraft, handcuffed the pilot and hauled him to an interrogation room.

The pilot’s story was that he took off from Vegas, got lost, and spotted the base just as he was about to run out of fuel.

The Air Force started a full FBI-NSA background check on the pilot and locked him up overnight.

By noon the next day, they were finally convinced that the pilot really was lost and wasn’t a spy.

They gassed up his airplane, gave him a terrifying “you-did-not-see-a-base” briefing, complete with threats of spending the rest of his life in prison, told him Vegas was that-a-way on such-and-such a heading, and sent him on his way.

However, the next day, to the total disbelief of the Air Force, the same Cessna violated restricted airspace and again plopped down on the long runway at Area 51.

Again, MP’s with guns drawn surrounded the plane which this time contained two people.

The same pilot jumped out, with hands-up, laid spread-eagle on the ground and screamed,“Do anything you want to me, but my wife is in the plane and you have to tell her where I was last night!”

I've known a fair amount of aviators in my life, and there are more than a few who might well have done the same thing!

Now, personally, I have operated out of a place near the fabled and mysterious base. We had to fly very low and never exceed an altitude that would unmask anything that might be going on the other side of the ridge. Flew there a bunch of times.

So one day curiosity was getting the best of me so when I exited the corridor, southbound, I popped in a handful of power and with that did a big airspeed bleeding cyclic climb. Got to 5,000 AGL really quick and had a good view of the stuff that wasn't there. Well I just stayed there a bit too long and before too long, here comes a pair of F-16's blowing by between me and the place of nothingness. I caught the hint, dropped out of altitude and that was that.

I had a buddy who would take his son there every year. They would camp out on one of the ridges surrounding the "base" and watch through binos until they were run off by security forces. They were looking for aliens, but never found any. LOL!

I have lots of friends who have worked out at dougway proving grounds. The stuff there gives me the stayzawayz  I can only imagine what they have at Area 51.  I’ve been out to Creach south of the area and it is terrible also.

I’d rather not know

Actually, IIRC, Area51 is pretty much shut down because everyone "knows" about it. It's still there to attract the wackados, but all the hush hush stuff is done elsewhere now.

Everything is underground.

There is a small air base near Scribner Nebraska. Its been shut down for years.  They turned one run way into a race track then shut it down too. Some body is raising cattle on one run way the and rest are torn up. But if you go out there at night messing around you will be escorted out by a military security team.

During 9-11 there was helicopter traffic in and out of there. There were reports that the presidents Helo was spotted coming in. All aircraft were grounded. The only aircraft around was military.
