That’s about where I was ending up, plus whatever minimal insulation I still have above the drywall and I’ll call it good. Should be a huge improvement. Just need to find the best price on insulation and osb to get it all covered.   Not happening in the immediate future, so I have a few months to plan and shop.

The key to the method you showed is the air gap and circulation below the decking.

Just noticed that the picture I copied in was a thick roof with asphalt shingles. We are planning on doing metal roofing, so it would actually look more similar to this picture. No need for the venting to keep the shingles from overheating.

Cool, how much polyiso do you plan to put on?  It looks like to get R38, it will take 6 inches, R49 a little over 7. Which either would be better than where I’m at today. I think I’ve only got whatever batts they could shove in between the 2x6 rafters.

One question for everyone. I’m preparing to redo the roof on the house as well, so in looking at insulating, I came across the idea of rigid polyiso insulation on top of the roof decking, then another layer of osb for the final roofing to connect to. About half of the house is under cathedral ceiling that only has about 6 inches of spsce for insulation between the drywall and the roof right now.  Anyone ever dealt with anything like that?

The floor did end up getting done, ended up pouring cement via a line pump directly into the room. Ended up being about 6 yards of concrete. From the moment the concrete truck pulled into the driveway, he was gone 35 minutes later.

It’s now the flattest floor in the house. Next step is a set of stairs going up in the space to the right of the new concrete. It is going to be a very easy walking staircase, about 11 inch tread and 7 inch rise, about 56 inches wide. Then a wall will go up at the right edge of the concrete to separate the dining room from the stairs. Then finish all the drywall in the room.

Why the exclusion?  I like to be part of trends too. I would have responded earlier, but I had to recover from eating my Tide Pods last night. That’s still a thing, right?

Just to be the weird one in the group, I really don’t understand why you aren’t able to get better mileage out of it. I’m running the same engine(minus tuning, cam, supercharger and big tires). I regularly get between 12-14 mpg, and that is combination back roads and highway, with me sometimes making the kids happy when they say “go faster daddy”.  Not to mention this is a 3/4 ton van with 500k miles on it. Something just doesn’t sound right to me. Maybe your transfer case is stuck in 4wd, maybe you’re just pouring gas on the ground when you are driving it around, but to me it seems illogical.

Just my two cents from a Dave that served in the Air Force.  Let the gaming begin. ;)

I know this might sound stupid, but I wanted to see if anyone has any recommendations for a good wallet?  I was looking at a bifold that can hold cash and cards and RFID protection.   Mine fell apart coming out of the gas station. There’s plenty of options out there and I enjoy shopping for wallets as much as I enjoy shopping for clothes.

Bringing the pistol back to your body after dispatching the target and keeping the muzzle pointed down along your body. You have the advantage of your weapon being ready, but being slightly less conspicuous than a low ready or swing into it around Wild West style.

I’ve been to several courses, one thing I didn’t like was the ones where they basically started getting you into the pattern of drawing and shooting two rounds at the target then securing your weapon and checking your surroundings. I also went to a course where they would basically tell you when the threat was down, so you wouldn’t get used to shooting a certain number or rounds to stop the threat. I went through almost two mags one time on one target, not because I was missing but because the instructor wanted me to continue to  engage the target. I liked that instructor.  He had some good courses.

Now that I think about it, Big D probably knew him. Don, did you know Joe Kalil?

I currently carry either my first ever pistol, a stainless Taurus .45, has always shot well for me and was fun to shoot as well, or a Ruger LCP as it was easy to grab and stuff in my belt no matter what I was wearing. Been looking at 9mm (have shot several, just not recently), and wanted to see what everyone’s thoughts were. Thanks for the reminder in natural point of aim, I know this and just hadn’t thought of it as I haven’t been in the market for a new hammer in a While.  I’ll probably stop up to the local shop and try some out. If I get one I’ll update jn it’s own thread.   Thanks!!!

Does everything have 500k? Transmission, diff, front end, sensors, HVAC system, etc. ?

If it has to be reliable, those are things that can potentially, scratch that, Will cause you to chase your tail unless done at the same time.
Pretty much everything is original. Haven’t had to do too much with it. I see what you’re getting at, either do a full refresh or suffer the consequences of having 17 year 500k Mike’s old parts that will continue to age further.

So pick up a 6.0 w/4l80e from the junk yard, refresh/rebuild both.  Then pull old engine, refresh everything still on the chassis (brakes, suspension, differentials, steering, interior). Then drop in new engine/transmission, get it all buttons up and then drive it like I stole it.

Okay, so you may recall this van just surpassed 500,000 miles. We’ve been looking for a replacement for it for a while, but the selection is slim and what is out there is way overpriced as far as I’m concerned. Which got me to thinking, “what if I just took some time/money and got the engine cleaned up and rebuilt, along with any other things wrong with the van. I could get the seats reupholstered, carpeting or flooring put in, go through the suspension/steering components and redo the sound system and probably come out ahead of the game and have a van that should be solid for the next couple hundred thousand miles.”

What do you think?  I’m not sure what the rebuild/cleanup would entail at this point, just throwing some thoughts around.

Yeah, original engine, original transmission. I have one cylinder that has issues, random misfires hence the check engine light. I need to change the plug on it again. I think I’m just getting lots of oil blowby from the rings and it crud’s up the plug. I could be wrong, but changing the plug it runs better for a while.

Friend just had a 40x60 metal building put up on his property. First plans he got from the company called for an 8” thick slab. Building inspector told him it was way over spec for what he needed. He went back to the company and they admitted they just grabbed some generic plans off the shelf and that yeah, for his purpose he only needed a four inch slab. He added a 12 inch thick channel 2 ft wide across the middle for a lift in the future.
