body armor
« on: September 15, 2014, 02:28:49 PM »
So I was in the 1AD museum last thursday and I came across this relic.  As I was reading the little plaq, it said something about being worn by PVT Harward.

Just thought I would share  ;D

I don't think there was any such thing as PVT back then.  I think it was more along the lines of "legionnaire" or "Master of Foot".

This whole thing seems to be taking on a Wizard of Oz type flavor-

Tin man - rusty joints, especially starting with the knees..... I think it looks like the chain mail was made out of shinny candy wrappers :)

OK, who has a nice carrier and why do you like it?

I have several panels and plates but all my carriers are for under clothing, I want a "Go" type carrier.

I think this is back on topic.

Thats an investment I need to go ahead and make.

What should be the first purchase?  Carrier and hard plates Level IV, or some soft level III for concealable wear against handgun threats?

And why the great variation in cost for the ceramic versus the ceramic/composite?

Oh and I think it was going more Monty Python than Wizard of Oz....

Kids today don't know how easy they have it. When I was young, I had to walk 9 feet through shag carpet to change the TV channel.

I was trying to find a video that had a tactical pull out vest from a backpack. Basically you had a backpack with pull over the head armor. Was fairly cool since you free to move until you had a threat and your back was covered.

Bad thing is everyone thinks the carriers are made of gold. Heck a good paintball vest would work if it didn't have that darn zipper up the middle!!

They test their plates against all kinds of weapons, lots of youtube vids.
Looks like pretty good stuff to me, but I don't have any real experience in this area and cant afford one to test. :P
Seems reasonably priced too.

Reasonably priced, but apparently WAY on backorder.
