So the Muslim ponders this for a bit & replies "Once my people were few & now they are many." Cowboy quietly sitting their looking around & states to the Muslim "I guess that's only because we have yet to play Cowboys & Muslims!"

& for all you PC complient folk I have Indian blood in my ancestory so I'm allowed to tell that joke

My thought was to use those tanks versus the forklift tanks for my EB that runs on pane. But we'll see, it was a good deal I so I jumped & they are currently in storage at this time.

Ultimately, I decided I didn't want to use propane or the gas engine for that matter.  The propane system went to a good home, Sean, aka stlaser.  Not sure what his plans are for it.  Sean?

Shawn as of Jan 1st sold GLO, I am still helping with the transition with the new ownership. When you get ready for that stuff shoot me a pm & I'll see what I can get new owners to do since you'll be advertising their stuff on this thread.

what are some suggestions for a new thread name for this thread?  lets hear them.

this weekend if I can find a place to get the truck up in the air a little, I am going to spend quite a bit of time with the pressure washer underneath it.  living in the city limits of a city that places water restrictions on folks, I have to find a place away from nosey cry baby neighbors that like to start drama to make this happen.  So once everything has been given a good cleaning, I will be able to get a better idea of what it is that I am dealing with.

thank you all for the information on the front axle as well as the x-case.  I was actually under the impression that it was a 205, but after shawn's pointed that out I did some research and better educated myself.  so again, thank you shawn.

I do know this, shawn will be getting an order from me for some of those stout diff covers as well as the disk brake conversion kits he has talked about for the rear axle.

for those that have classic GM vehicles, I found this site https://www.gmheritagecenter.com/ to be very very informational and helpful.  some other information that I got yesterday was to the GM Archives.  their number is 734-462-5543 ext:163 / 734-261-5086 they can provide build sheets and original dealer/factory information on GM vehicles.

so here are the 3 things that happened yesterday.  1. I found a new hood at the junk yard in perfect condition for $75 and 2. I found a guy here in town that will repair/replace and rebuild the steering column for $150.  and 3. I have come to realize that I have to actually sit my happy butt down and make a check sheet of everything that needs to be worked on, because otherwise tracey and I will be completely overwhelmed.

Also worth noting, Dana on all their housing marked them for what model they were in the center chunk casting. Most times especially on older axles such as this front unit you may need the assistance of a pocket knife (& for all you city slickers out there an old sos pad will work as well) to scrape the gunk off to reveal the inset cast number. It will be located cover side in the gusset below where the axle tube is pressed in. If memory serves me correctly it is right side as you face cover. So this particular axle will have a number "44" cast into it.

D44 confirmed. 10 bolt 8.5 corp. had completely round circumference on the cover. d44 is more like the deformed stop sign you see there. both were balljoint from 77-81 and 3/4 ton only option was d44 till '82. Looks like a really nice clean slate!

Nate, nice find. T-case is NP203 which is highly common in the 3/4 tons. I parted out many of those trucks for the running gears here locally. The NP203 is chain driven versus the NP205 which is gear to gear. Those chains can stretch fyi and are problematic.

So what's the end result look like? What barrel /length did you go with?
Sorry for the long delayed response. I bought a mega arms 18" 1:10 twist via aim for a steal. I just purchased a JP adjustable gas block for it & installed it today. Left the free float hand guard off. Once it warms up a bit I'm gunna take it out & dial gas block in. Once it's assembled & clean free of all the white Latium grease mess I'll snap some pics.

I was going to ask you how that project ever turned out. In addition to the adjustable gas block there are heavier buffer springs, that'll help smooth things out. I'll try and find the ones I've seen and post them up for you. The gear site I gave you end up helping you out?

http://heavybuffers.com/ this is where I purchased my buffer.....

& yes, I purchased through the gear site you recommended. Nice stuff........

With all that stated then you should need the early version disc kit. If drums slid off without removing shafts then it would be later brake setup.

I built a 7.62 gas system ar off the same upper and lower as the Ruger 7.62 (blanks come from same shop as ruger gets them) It was definitely a headache (ordered wrong parts several times) and the action was pretty tight when I finished the build. I have ran several mags thru it at different times with white lithium grease (boy is that messy) trying to heat it up and break the action in. It is getting better but thinking the system may be over gassed slightly so looking into an adjustable gas block now. Moral of the story the big price tag on the ruger looks inexpensive in comparison.........

Yeah 8 bills is a little pricey for a gun you can't fondle prior to purchasing. To answer that question no I didn't pay that much. I did a pre order before production started & picked it up for 6 bills I think. I liked (being a lefty) that it will discharge the shell either right or left. It is well made & I think I would pay the 8 bills now after owning it. I've also owned a keltec sub2000 that is a folder & uses same glock mags. It was junk in comparison which is the reason I no longer own it.

This company TNW also makes this in a .45 as well and there is a kit you can buy (comes all enclosed in its own pack) that allows you to change this firearm between 9mm, .40 & .45 so I think that was also a pretty slick idea. http://www.tnwfirearms.com/product-p/asrx-cplt-9445-xxxx-xxxx.htm

They now have better color options & will thread the barrel end as well for a flash hider or muffler or one of them there oil collecting devices so you don't pollute the outdoors with nasty contaminants.....

You will use the hubs that came on that axle unless you need different mount width, then you may be able to use CC hubs and change your mount width some. Honestly I'm not too familiar with that as I haven't done it much. Quick question about this axle though. Do the drums slide off the hubs without removing the axle shafts? Or do you pull shafts then knock out studs so that the hub can be knocked out of the drum?

If your stuck on pistol caliber rifle look at these and they run Glock mags http://www.tnwfirearms.com/product-p/asrx-cplt-xxxx-xxxx-xxxx.htm I have one in .40 and its light and easy to maneuver. They also just came out with these http://www.tnwfirearms.com/product-p/aspx-cplt-xxxx-xxxx-xxxx.htm But as Don stated 12ga is best home defense and you can get recoil reduction stocks. My little Hitler (ie: wife is 5' nothing and 120#) and she can operate any of the 12ga's with the recoil reduction stocks with little issue. She's mean though so that might having something to do with it...... :o

Worth mentioning is that these TN guns have screw on take down barrels so they may be multi purpose in the excitement potentially coming our way just my 2 cents

Well since Don owns this site I guess I'm free to post up Great Lake Off Road info w/o fear of getting banned. I may have to make a donation though if I sell something  ;). We have the disc conversion, pinion guards, covers and even u-joint girdles for that axle. Let me know if you have any questions. Thanks Shawn

Firearms / Re: What shotgun do you guys prefer?
« on: December 05, 2014, 01:42:00 PM »
As one of 2 or 3 states left in the US that does not allow peasants to use rifles to kill deer I am familiar with these rounds. The sabot slugs have a plastic sleeve that encases the slug & runs down the barrel which catches on the rifling of a shotgun spinning the sabot increasing its accuracy at least two fold. I have watched large bodied bucks be dropped at 150 yards with these rounds in 12ga. Not to be confused with rifled slugs which are to be fired form a smooth bore shotgun and are not near as accurate over distance. I personally have two different shotguns I can hit a paper plate at 100+ yards with using the sabots in Winchester Super X 3" long version. Don is correct no matter what gun you use or how heavy it is these will knock your shoulder around, I'm broad shouldered and 6'3" not to be mistaken with any lightweight. I also have a couple 10ga goose guns and these recoil harder than either of those. I do however run scopes with a decent eye relief on both and have had it brush my eye brow (never cut or bruised me) more than once so you do need to understand what it's capabilities are. Also agreeing with Don you load up a drum on a siaga 12 and run some slugs into the same spot a few times the guy on the other side of said object is gunna get excited........

I do the bear friendly defence load.
1 cracker/banger whatever you wish to call it. Fires about 100 yards and explodes.
2 #2, 3" magnum. Not a killer, but a stinger.
2 1-1/4 slugs.

The theory is try the cracker to scare them away. If that doesn't work, it gets progressively harder on the target/threat.
Good enough plan
But
I'd like to see a magazine extension for one more kill round
Ever think of a .50 sabot?
I'm looking for a mag extension, and may have to get one made up from a buddy.
Having real difficulties finding a Mossy extension. I am a bit ignorant to if a 590 one would fit, I think I did see one of those. We are really lacking in gun accessories in this part of the world. But it is very high on my needs list.

As for the sabot rounds, I was completely unaware of their 12 ga application, and am interested about them.
I do own a muzzleloader and the sabots for them are smooth. Are the 12 ga variants rifled? With a smooth bore, I think they would not be so good without rotation.

Common sense must prevail.

Ignorance runs rampant and does not discriminate. I'm sure JR has seen more than he cares to remember, but with my entire maternal side of the family in law enforcement up here in the pacific northwest I've heard my fair share of their stories of ignorant onlookers of ALL races haranguing them for arresting armed criminals, bank robbers, rapists and murderers solely because they were a minority.
