OK, so today I installed a set of these

https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0762JL7WQ/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o02_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1

I didn't take any pictures of the install as it's pretty basic, unbolt old units and bolt in new. The brand is Anzio and they take a month plus to receive so I'm thinking china but they had great reviews and price was right. They came packaged very well and had nice instructions which I never read but for those who may be challenged they are there and of good quality. Machining looks solid and they are stainless and I believe aluminum construction.

The problem is the original Jeep parts allow what they call "hood flutter" yeah here I thought that was what happened every time H tripped? Who knew? So anyhow the hood will move up and down a bit at high speeds on the freeway. It's annoying but really doesn't hurt anything if you don't change them out. It's been on my list of things to upgrade so I pulled the trigger. I'm quite happy with the product. The pins have a push button release and are tethered so you can't lose anything and doing it one handed is possible.

As far as a two axle tag trailer I once had close to 18k on a 12k trailer. Fort Wayne to KC, MO 6 tires later......

On a 25k deck over gooseneck we had it over 35k, 5 mile trip to scrap yard no tires blown

Can’t recall the 28k flat bed trucks but we loaded them heavy routinely.

Then DOT got their crap together & it wasn’t as much fun......

Nate sent me to some business version of Costco in downtown Denver. So I go there because he told me they had bone in butts for sale there (price was ok but not great) & then I saw the halal goat carcass for sale & left without any meat.......

was that costco business?

It was, glad you put me on to it for other stuff regardless. The halal crap freaks me out a bit, I've read about that process.......... https://www.barnhardt.biz/2015/04/12/notes-on-food/ granted she loses me on the catholic thing much but she usually is pretty factual otherwise.

as such I refuse to buy anything halal, granted I doubt the butts were from the same processor obviously.

Yes Charles, if he skips the welding step, it should stay straight.

Never mind the children jeering from the cheap seats......

So heat is the biggest issue, too much over too great of an area will be a problem. So taking my time when welding to the tubes and working back and forth. I plan on getting the truss tacked in place on tubes and then working on the center section. Once the cast is welded in good on the inside then go work on tubes. The truss is fairly rigid so that should help keep things straight if done in the proper order.

So I was able to squeeze a little more in today on that front axle. Between going cross-eyed staring at bank statements for taxes and machining parts I finished fabrication of all the mounts from scrap steel I had laying around and was able to get the axle secured to the table via five mounting points. It is level as if it were still hanging under the front of that 1 ton ford. This gives me a baseline when welding the truss onto the housing. Being that the JK only has a 3-4" lift the stock pinion angle for the ford should be a good starting place. The mounts I built are pretty strong but the reality is that I will still take all the precautions to keep the housing from warping. Once it is completely welded I will wait until it is completely cooled before removing from the table mounts.

Just another liberal fool floating his socialist dream.

We have the right to own and bear arms

It is not only in our constitution, but in our culture and American DNA

To unravel the 2A would be to unravel the America that exists today

It would bring on a state of revolution everywhere, where no one wins, that is except for the UN Peacekeepers likely in the form of millions of Chinese on the west side, and millions of europeans on the east...Just Say: goodbye America

I believe we can only be undone from within

I believe the progressive liberal is the greatest threat to the America our constitutional forefathers created

My angle is the left top doesn’t care how many people are lost nor the cost to get to their desired goals. The middle & bottom left are too brainwashed to know any different.

I’m gunna throw this out there. I believe the members and viewers of this forum for the most part are sane God fearing men. Rational, controlled men that when confronted with a situation do their best in the eyes of all to give a measured response to whatever the situation calls for. It is my personal belief though that if these educated retards decide to do something such as turn a conservative 100 million gun owners into criminals overnight then the response will be anything but measured.

I'm pretty sure in WI it has to deal with the percentage of cargo hauling area vs passenger area.  Cap or not, there are no seats with seat belts back there so it is cargo hauling area.  Then again I only pay a total of $120 for my C class truck plates.

Back in Indiana the big jump was from 3/4 ton to 1 ton in terms of cost. 1/2 & 3/4 we’re reasonable then when you went to 1 ton they figured you were hauling 45K around all the time.

This might be a good action to consider.  Some of the perks of a custom action at a reduced price.  They have both righty and lefty versions.  By the time you would buy a Rem700 action, have it trued and get a good rail on it you would be very close if not more to the price of one of these.

https://www.gunwerks.com/store/gun-parts/

Those prices are better than the Stiller & Pierce actions I was researching last night, not as fancy a finish but I don’t need fancy on a tool as long as it works.

So Anna (9 year old, read old mouthy lady red dog) & Lucifer terrorized the grooming lady this morning. So much so that she had them groomed and ready for pickup an hour early. Lucifer’s first trip there btw.

About half way through the session I get a text from the groomer. She wanted to know if Lucifer was fixed? At this point I’m in the middle of a call and I’m reading the text and thinking wth does that have to do with a dog bath, trim & nails clipped?  Since groomer is a bit of a high strung individual and she is a female who has on occasion said things she regrets immediately afterwards I gave her ten minutes before I responded the lengthy reply of No.

Immediately receive a text back saying well she is in heat. So again ten minutes pass & I reply OK, still wondering at this moment what difference it made (slipped that in there for you Ken! ) and no further correspondence via text other than come get your hooligans early.

I arrive and she proceeds to want to play 50 questions if we’re going to get her fixed. At which point I mutter something about her having a vet visit coming up which is followed up by a death glare from the groomer. I then give a nervous muttering about we’ll it might at the very least calm her down a bit and let me tell you no one was gunna argue for allowing Lucifer to keep her reproductive organs functioning.

Follow up on dog run, wet nasty snow this evening here. Dogs were dry as a bone on the way to bed this ev ning so at least that has worked well and they decided digging down to the buried chain link fence isn’t that much fun.

If the 30-06 is still a good gun I wouldn't use the action as a donor.  You could sell it whole and get more then what you would spend on just an action.

I’ll just keep it & source a new action, start buying parts to put one together. Still thinking the 6.5 CM is the way to go.

RG is neat, you ride the train?

We moved here just south of boulder in early June of 15 into an apartment. So first holiday the 4th we drove up to boulder and went to pearl st. (Neat brick paved street with trees planted down the middle & you walk it). So we’re walking down pearl st and they have entertainers (guys juggling flaming sticks & music people etc). It’s about supper time and we see this little ny style deli with glass windows you can people watch from. Right below via and outside stairs I notice there is a pot shop in the basement as we walk into the deli. So we’re sitting there and my oldest Baylee who was 13 sees a panhandler on the corner with a sign. It says “why lie, I need drugs” so our first real experience in the hippy culture. So as we’re eating I’m watching the stair well. All age groups & socioeconomic backgrounds coming and going. After 15 minutes someone comes up with a little brown bag and hands it to the panhandler. I guess what surprised me the most was the police walking the beat, they just glanced at the guy and kept going.

Bear is right on the money with his description, yeah I’m 10 Into it with the can.

However if you have a rifle already you can send it off and have it trued and a match barrel put on it for a lot less

Add a stock later and DBM and better glass but getting the action set up is the key.

Also, the most important part is the trigger.  It takes a lot, a lot, of practice to get good with a mediocre trigger.

IMO nothing finer than a Jewel HVR set at 2.5 pounds.  A good trigger makes all the difference.  All my bolt guns have the same trigger, even my box stock hunting 308.  I know how the trigger feels and it’s one less variable when shooting different weapons.

Once you shoot with a can you’ll never want to shoot without one.  :-) it also reduces recoil as effectively as a brake.

Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

I was wondering about a rebarrel of the 30.06 to a .308 & if it was worth doing? My thought was I really don’t ever shoot the 30.06 anyhow and this would be moving toward less stocking calibers. I do have quite a bit of 30.06 ammo but I’m sure I could find it a home or just sit on it for barter value in the future. There are a couple semi local precision rifle shops near me would you look at using them or send it out to someone specific?

Another thing to think about.  What type of a group will you be happy/ content with?  If you can hold a 1" group at 100 yards and you will be fine with that and not looking for more than any of those 3 should be ok.  But without reloading even 1" could be a struggle.  I have read more than a few reviews where guys needed a barrel swap to get under 1 MOA with the RPR.  If you get to 1" will you want to chase 3/4" and then 1/2" etc..?  If that is the case save yourself the headache and go custom right away.

Yeah, I think what I’m reading here is that I need to go custom. Save up the coin or piece it together like you did little here and there. Which then leads into finally pulling the trigger on a reloading setup. So if I do those two things then I really don’t see a reason to not just go 6.5 CM and be done.

Firearms / Re: Ruger Precision 308

Thanks Bear I’ll look into both. Reality is I’d rather start with less of a gun and in a year or two if I feel it’s relevant move up to a high end custom gun such as Charles has. I might add this route I buy two guns versus one and two is always better.

I think I’d stay with 308 for time being as I don’t reload anything currently (granted saving brass to do it some day) & just to keep from adding another caliber at the moment.

My other thought is to take an older rem 700 LH I already have in 30-06 & upgrade it. This would allow me to run several classes and then once I’m more proficient purchase to a nice custom 308 bolt gun or even another caliber such as 6.5 CM. Any thoughts on going this route, I realize the 30-06 isn’t even the cartridge that the 308 is but since I’m learning does it matter as much anyhow?

.308 is a great round and doesnt get the respect it deserves.

It will make a good shooter out of you because you have to read the wind.  Distance is a matter of having a dope card.

I have a 19.5 inch barreled 700 in .308 and have made hits to1000.

Honestly, Shawn, this may sound self serving, but spend the coin and get you a really great custom rifle.  Then you know for a fact when you miss it is you and not the rifle.

My GA Precision will shoot 1/4 inch 5 shot groups with handloads.  I know when I miss, it is me and not the rifle.  Usually its the wind call that I miss.  Distance is easy but the wind is a real test.

Just set aside $10k for the gun and optics.  Then you are good to go!

You’re killing me Charles.......

10k for a rifle/optic for me is a good 1-2 years saving up honestly. I’ll give up before I get to that amount most likely (realistically get impatient and buy other guns or gear). Maybe not but it’s some fat to chew on & consider no less.

As far as the length of barrel I wasn't against the 20" due to the folding stock option (shorter overall length when collapsed). Trigger I guess I need to do more research on. The LGS had one on the shelf way over priced but I was able to handle it and grope it sufficiently. I am not a spontaneous purchaser so it would be a few months before I pulled the trigger most likely as the JK is taking precedence at the moment.

So I haven’t bought one yet. Looking for thoughts on this from the long range guys here as I’m not in that category really. I have a local place I have trained with who have classes on the subject. Thinking this might be a reasonably priced starter option.

I currently own an SR-25 so the interchangeability of mags and ammo obviously peaked my interest. I’m hoping being a southpaw that Ruger at some point elects to build a left hand unit. Normally they don’t the first year or two but in the past have done so several years in on many platforms.

I hear ya Ken. My mission is to reduce my taxable footprint.

If you did that where would you store all that cool stuff?

Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

Charles, I stated after the last recession all 139 million tax payers should start a small business so they can file long form. Typically it amounts to around a $100 filing fee with the state (Indiana was $90 and I think Colorado was the same) then file for a federal tax ID number (sole proprietors can use your SS number however then credit scores are not separate between the business entity and individual). Pretty simple.........

5993
I always heard 5, I showed a loss two years in a row for the first time ever the last two years. I’ll have a wee bit profit when I file this year.

I know my accountant wasn’t happy last year. However, much of it was due to items that I had prior been depreciating from a fairly large business I sold but hanging on to for a new start up venture. The sales are now just starting to catch up with the amount of write offs I have and this is going into a third year so it’s easy to explain. Ken can just blame the Russians....

Shawn, going to have to think about that for a bit, I'm kinda fond of using liquid to cool things down...call me old fashioned. The water based stuff cleans up fairly quickly imo.

Ken, I don’t use it on drill bits normally. What I do use it on is multi flute counter sinks and slug cutters like what you have. Jobs where I’m really heating up the complete tool, this stuff sticks to the tool pretty well & cools it right down. Just to give you an idea I have a 1” 4 flute countersink that I use for countersinking 3/8 flat head machine screws in 3/8 HR plate. I did over 1800 holes with a full machined countersink with that one tool and deburred 4x as many holes on top of that with the same tool.
