Did lots of research thanks to you. Not that I wouldn't have gone Vortex, but maybe not that high end.

They recommend 1.46 height rings for it to clear flip ups.

I think the viper I have will go on the 7mm Ruger and will be a nice upgrade.

Also got the Nikon 4K range finder. On sale for $350 with 5x points at Cabelas. Maybe use those for dies.

Now if I can find a little better deal on the gun. Everyone will go just a little under $1800, so who do I get the best benny's from is all now.

Out of stock from Vortex, maybe 6-8 weeks and 2C MRAD no longer available.

Found the 7C mrad in stock at optics planet, they came close to matching the leo discount price at vortex, so I ordered it from them.

Still not bad. And I think with the discount you can order 2 products a year so there's that.

2 products per category.... scopes, binos, red dots.... is what the rep told me when we purchased a while back.

When ordering from Optics Planet you can almost always call them up and ask them what the best price is.  It seems like they can almost always knock an additional 10% off.  I've even convinced them to take an additional 10% off an already killer sale price.

Ordered the RPR today, should be here Friday. Then I wait another 10 for paperwork in Ca.

Only thing not solid are the rings. Might do the stock right away to but wait for the rifle to see if I like that spindly thing.

Scope came, looks great. It is heavy, but 3lbs on a 15lb rifle won't really matter. Plus will add a bipod minimum.

Needs covers, rings and throw lever. Not worried about name brand but nothing funky either. Covers are simple, rings go from $30-200 and levers from $20-60.

Also ordered an wheeler torque wrench and level kit, not sure about a level on the scope.

At low power you can just see the rectile, the heavy side bars disappear at 20 power.

Nice JR.

Guys, what's a throw lever?

Found many of the new scopes are a bare to adjust. Adding that little tab lets you adjust easier and see about where you are too.

This gun has a throw lever on it.  Especially helpful in a match when you just came off a prone stage that you cranked the magnification up to the max and forgot about it until you were searching for your target at the next stage.  You can see the out of focus rifle also has one.

I wouldn't put one of those on a hunting rifle, but that's just me. I already have the occasional snag on the bolt in brush country, and sometimes the backpack straps.

Looking at the Atlas BT46-LW17 for a bipod. Middle of the road for price, some used.

Found a PRS for a great price, on the way.

Now its just rings. Looks like Seekins makes the Vortex rings, but leaning towards the Steiner T series.

Rifle should be here tomorrow. Then a few rounds and reloading misc.

Nice choice on the bipod.  When I bought mine I wish I would have spent a bit more for the PSR version.

For rings I would look at Hawkins Precision.

I have a set of those talon feet or whatever they are called.  Used them a couple times.  Out of the 10 or more matches I've shot this year I have yet to pull them out of my pack.  The rubber feet work great in nearly every situation.

For the shooting you will likely be doing a Harris would likely cover all your needs for a good bit less cash.

Not sure if I really need the PIC mount on the tripod. Will I really take it on/off much to need it vs just securing it?

What do you mean by pic mount?  Atlas bipods mount to a picatany rail.  You have the option for one that will mount with bolted fasteners very similar to mounting scope rings to a rail.  The other option is the lever mount.  This will allow you to quickly remove the bipod and re install it.

I have the fastener style and wish I had the lever option.  On occasion there is a tight barricade stage in a shoot that I wish I could quickly remove the bipod.  It probably cost me a point or two on a stage this weekend where I would have removed it if it would have been easier.  For your use you probably don't need that option.  Unless you have other rifle that you want to use it on.

Not sure about doing competition or not, specially with a 20lb rifle. But you never know.

Called and it was shipped out of Ut on the 4th. They "should" get it this week.

Well, the RPR came in today so I ran down a got the paperwork done. Almost an hour. At least they had some ammo for a decent price. SB 250gn for $30 a box (10rnds)

I have to wait until nest Friday to get it now. 10 days wait "cool off" so I don't do anything rash not counting others at home.

I never like hearing about these foolish gun control attempts that really do nothing.

Last two days in a row, I walked up to a counter and purchased a firearm, and walked out with it 20 min later, in Ky and OH.

Yeah Don.  As ex mil. You are on the list of potential terrorists.  They should have scrutinized you more.

Is anyone else starting to see that the left is subversive and pervasive and will do what ever it takes to turn the masses against conservatives?  I think its time for an uprising.  This next election is time to rise up and send a bunch of them packing.  All they value is power and prestige. Time to take it away from them.

Funny that you mentioned that

I had a bit of trouble getting the shotgun yesterday

When i filled out the background check form, I listed my name exactly as I always have, omitting the "Jr."

Well, the store got a call from, I think, the FBI about the omission of the "JR."

It took a little finagling before the purchase was cleared and we walked out with it. I say FBI, because I heard the manager talking to our sales guy and he mentioned the FBI in the middle of the paperwork schneegans.

If our government would come to believe we honorable veterans are potential terrorists, then we had better dam well see presidents, Judges, Senators, Congressmen, Police, Firemen and a lot more on the same list!

HF had their rifle case on sale for $99, so I brought one home.

Ordered the last parts from Optics. Now just a week for the rifle and all parts will be here by then.

Guess I am on the list too, registered independent and retired LEO.

I go through the same time to time Don. The way they put my name on the DL vs how it reads is diff, so the game must be played. And now I have to get a new "real" Ca DL as they have given out so many DLs to illegals the fed will no longer honor my valid DL next year. Plan to just get it in NV and be done with it.

When I did the paperwork, they asked the same question several times (test) and I had to produce the CC I paid it with online so as not to be a "straw sale"

Well, a couple updates to the build.

Picked up rifle, real monster. Love it. PSR will work well on it, but overall to long for the HF case. Looking at the Pelican Vault I saw at Cabelas this weekend.

Did a little more research on scopes too. Returning the Vortex for a Steiner T5Xi 5-25/56. Saved $200 over the razor and don't have to get caps separately.

What do you guys think on Mag count? Two seems a little low, 3 or 4? All mags are 5 rnds and run around $70 if you look. I can see shooting 2 to 3 weights.

These guys are selling refurbed/ blem Steiner t5x's for a decent discount.  Likely will save you a couple bills.  Might take a while to get to you from what I understand though.

I’ve purchased a couple of scopes from them in the past with good results.
