Almost put one of those in my '73 GMC. Tossed the seized 500 in the scrap yard and went with a 400 Pontiac instead.
Just did a quick check, but came up empty handed. I think I can find one though. Hey, Shawn, have you considered the 8.1 Chevy? 496 cu in and lots of parts.
Found ithttps://cincinnati.craigslist.org/pts/d/sunman-500-cadillac-engine/6804511728.htmlSunman IndianaWant me to get it for you?
You pay my fuel and put me up for the night and ill transport for you?
Cool. Those suckers put down some torque, for sure. That's why I was going down that path, but the 400 my old boss sold me was a 71 firebird engine...365hp before we worked it over. Wore it out and got a 455 to build but still haven't. Ended up sticking another 400 in it that I built for a 68 Tempest... now I want to put a dmax in the poor mans goat...some day. And the 73 will still roast the tires off with that small big block.
Shawn, this is an intriguing idea you have. I never looked at the Caddy engine. THought it weighed in like a 6BT. I think you are on to something here. Stock build, freshened up making 500 ft lbs, lightly built another 100 and pushed making a mind numbing 800HPSo, I talked to an engine builder today over in eastern OH. Smart guy, although diesel. He likes that motor and knew about the high nickel blocks and the dead reliability of the thing...
That thing is begging for a Square body Suburban to shove around!
I know where 2 1977 caddies are sitting in a field. Want me to inquire? Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

Doubt your looking this far south, but if there’s something you stumble on and need eyes I’ll go look, and try to turn the crank. I’d imagine you’ll find one sooner than I go to the junk yard again but I’ll check next time I’m down there.

But I’m an hour from Tucson so there’s another large area for ya. Albuquerque is 6 hours from me, which is half way to Denver I believe, could meet you there with one if you found one down here.

You would prefer a 700r to a T400 on something with that much torque?
$400-$600 I think Guys is on cl stated he was firm on price, granted he had two trans he wanted gone with it but I have no use for them. I can adapt a newer gm od auto to it easily enough.

Oh, didn't think you wanted electronic.Might as well go with a 6.0 .
I’ll find an engine for $600 or less w/o the extra baggage. Recall again real estate is a premium here and those trans are not in high demand
The 1991 had a stand alone PCM for the trans, only year. Mine works great in the 85 burb, not sure of the PCM though. What PCM you looking at?
I know you're talking trans. I said if you're going to use an electronic trans, you might as well use a 6.0 engine...sarcastically.second question is which 80 series, a 4 speed (older electronic) or the newer 6 speed.
