All machines have little "quirks", kinda like a woman. Some things need constant atten, some don't, but you have to pay attention to them all.

Skid steer was fixed this morning. Plug from an ecu came undone directly below the pin that fell out. Service guy pulled passengers side rear tail light and put it back together clearing code. Says it locked in well and thinks it won’t happen again but is putting notes in on it that if it does he will be replacing that ecu and wiring harness. Tech also stated this is one of his favorite skid steers. Typically no major issues from them and it’s only minor stuff like this that he sees.

Started insulating the ceiling in the detached garage. After a little more than a couple bundles installed and one run across the ceiling my arms and shoulders were shot. I finished up on some walls. One pack shy of a bunk installed, two more bunks to go thru yet. Back at it in the AM.

Surprising not really, of course it’s cold so I had sweatshirt on and since I’m fairly allergic to inhaling it I wore an n95 all day and only slightly weazy this evening but not bad all in all.

So concrete guys came out this morning and cut slab. They brought out the thawzall, runs hot water thru pipes under the concrete mats thawing the ground. They can then pour the concrete or in this case a 4’ wide sidewalk from house porch over past stairs going to second story above garage and then the new machine shop. There is enough room between the house and garage I can unload the lathe and mill onto roller carts and then get them into the permanent home in the machine shop.

We then discussed installing culvert east side of shop as he will have extra fill that needs to go somewhere and we might as well use the extra to install the culvert and start the driveway towards new shop. The conversation then went to the marked trees. For less than I can rent a mini he is cutting the trees, de-limbing them and stacking 16’ logs up for future use. He will then dig all the stumps. So I agreed along with him dropping several other trees that are too close to the cabin currently.

Electrical for new shop is 6-8 months out atm. They did get engineering fee and I’m on the schedule though in about ten weeks for an in person meetup/site review.

It wasn’t the supplier of electric that slowed the progress for me as much as shortages of parts to set it up. Blame the COVID game.

2/3rds ceiling done now & a good 1/3rd of walls insulated. Got a good routine down for hanging ceiling by myself and it went about twice as quick today.

I’ve decided I’m going to put osb up on the walls and ceiling and just paint it. Should be able to do that for under $1k currently.

Finished insulating the ceiling today. No pics sorry, I had a couple Miller lites calling my name. I have 4 bundles left and I estimate I need about a bundle and a half ish to finish what’s left of the walls.

I ordered 68 sheets of 7/16 osb at $11.25 a sheet (68 gave me a $1.25 per sheet bulk discount) from HD in Kalispell. At 44# a sheet that pretty well loads out my 3500# trailer. Heading there and Costco run tomorrow with the wife unit. Going to grab a few other things while in town. My shoulders and arms are beat….

She’s doing really well and loves it. I’d guess it’s about 25 mins maybe, all on state highway with relatively zero traffic. Due to it being a small remote access hospital (25 bed facility) in a town of 3K people in a county of 16k it comes with everyone knowing who she is and being a big fish in small pond. So that’s different, however she has a very diverse background that lends itself well to having to wear many hats. It would appear from the feedback we’ve gotten from various people. That being law enforcement to judges and various county services she was what they’ve need for awhile here. They are also pushing for her to finish her doctorate so she can practice and be in a dual role here. That’s actually unheard of as it’s typically a conflict of interest. But they tend to look the other way as they need the resources.

Fudge over 1.5, had they given me the correct amount it would have been right at 1.5. I drove back 1.5 hours and stopped to get fuel. As I’m waiting it dawned on me I never counted the stack. So I did and they gave me 5 extra at 44# each so 73 total versus 68, couple hundred extra pounds.

3500# axle and trailer weighs 675# roughly so not too bad. I did max out the air on the tires before I left this morning and they were a little warm on way back even in 30 degree temps but bearings stayed cool.

Kaufman 17k tilt deck trailer is supposed to get picked up next week.

Sorry JR, 20 years for us this last October. 2022 was a tough year in this marriage. Granted there have been other tough years too. I’m just praying 2023 is better.

Wife unit is getting beehives, places order early February. I know nothing of ’s but she’s researching it and says it’s science based (her court) so we’ll see…..

Yup, her boss the CEO (most likely best boss she has ever had it seems) is well seasoned and this in his words is in his retirement gig. He took this role over a regional ceo job he was offered about 8 months prior to my wife being hired. Originally from MT, former army, trained in jiujitsu and is a smart ass which I’ve witnessed first hand. Does not buy into anything woke and seems to call an ace an ace and a spade a spade. Proudly drives a Jeep yj even, yeah that one bothered me a bit but whatever to each their own…..

Insulation 99.9% done, need to finish framing out window headers and add a bit above each then spray foam around windows and call it a day. Next up is hanging a small electric 240v garage heater and then osb once I get back from my trip.  The insulation makes it night and day difference to work in.

When I did my garage I did OSB bottom four feet, drywall above.
It’s served the purpose of keeping holes out but wish it were all OSB. Make hanging small things better than falling out of the drywall…

I primed and painted white with one of the airless sprayers.
Was a white cloud but very fast and done.
Coming along very well.
I just don't want to wind up missing a digit or limb.  I can sometimes get in a hurry to get results.

Man, you don't let any grass grow under your feet!

Thanks, for the record I’m signing the check on that. They had excavator on site still and a professional logger on his crew. I couldn’t rent the machine for what they charged for the day. I am today delimbing and bucking the 6 trees they dropped near the cabin. Ground is unthawed here currently and I didn’t want machine tearing anything up. I’ll grab the logs later with skid steer once ground freezes over again. I may pick up a sawmill in a year or so and build a couple structures from the logs, one being an open air carport. Wife doesn’t like parking in garage, must be an Amish thing….

I have about ten more logs to add to the piles yet. They’re around back of house and trying not to dig up property around the cabin. May have to wait for another freeze.

Ended up being the dummy on the ends of these two sticks today. Engineer from utility came out yesterday. He proposed building a pedestal near the current transformer to hold a new 400 amp meter base and then run two 200 amp circuits. They will give me the cable going to cabin and release their 20’ easement over that cable to the cabin. They will then run new wire from transformer to pedestal and I’ll need to run new wire to new shop. Best part is no 6-8 month lead time. This is such a small job they can do with a weeks notice once I open up tench from transformer to pedestal and have pedestal ready to hook into. I’ll also be able to set a genset out far away from my cabin in the woods and power both the shop and home from one unit.

Sidewalk from cabin to machine shop

Culvert going in for new driveway to the big shop.

Yup, it’s concrete contractors ex. 34,500# unit he has two of them with around 500 hours on them. We’re going around about large shop foundation. Plus bringing in quite a bit of fill. Cost is more than I like and he’s quoted it a couple different ways. Meeting him again in the morning. We’ll see, it needs done just trying to navigate the best route and not kill my bank account completely.

That’s 12 x 20
, I was limited by the ditch and the propane tank. But I needed a seperate shop for the mill / lathe and a hobby I enjoy. Basically a clean area, the larger shop will be for daily work that is a dirtier process.

Built the pedestal today, it’s 6’ wide and roughly 5’ tall. The plan is to use this to mount gen set transfer switch on in the future. I’ll pour a pad behind it for generator and place two other posts on opposite side then build a roof over generator.  Currently we’re setting it up with a 400 amp meter base.

It should withstand hurricane force winds….. 8’ 6x6 posts sunk 36” deep in concrete w/ 2x12’s attached with 4” timber lock screws. Per the utility “posts must be 6x6 treated if wood, if using steel posts we have zero specs on the steel just make sure it’s in concrete”…….. smh

60 ton of pit run fill to get culvert in and drive towards new shop foundation.

I met w/ contractor today. We came to an agreement on foundation design and a negotiated price. He’s going to put in a legit house foundation same as other shop, footer and walls. This ground isn’t very stable so after looking at all options and costs to me it seemed like the best route. It also keeps his guys in work and I told him I’m flexible on time to complete over next couple months.

Things are really taking shape around there. You must be breaking HOA rules but if no one cares get it done.

The only thing I’m not doing is building / rebuilding axles currently. Just finishing up some loose ends. I am still selling parts and seem to be bothering Tate regularly. Difference between you and I JR is time is money for me in that I’m only spending it and not making my full potential. So let’s get it done…..

Concrete guys aren’t real busy in the winter so as it is he’s working with me on price to get the work and I’m flexible on time frame with him so he’s using me as fill in.

Zero hoa rules broken thus far by me. I am taking notes on rules he has decided to disregard so when he complains about something I have ammo.
