Build Threads / Re: SquareD Part 8, This thing ever going to get finished?
« on: November 27, 2017, 06:47:46 PM »
Well, believe it or not, I have not had a free hour to craw under that truck to get it running yet!

That's the bad news

Good news is that I just located another performance diesel shop very close by. I am arranging to have SquareD hauled over there tomorrow.

What the crap. Disappointing.

If you wanna crawl under the truck sure. I prefer to stay topside. 15/16 deep well and a half inch ratchet will suffice.

Yes, but the engine has to be correct. The pump timing could be off still if the gear was a tooth off. But we cant verify that unless the engine is at TDC. Fuel pressure is good.

Someone said they thought you fixed the truck and have been driving it.

But yes, 18 psi minimum to the injection pump.
Then remove number 1 and 6 valve covers, bar the engine over by the alternator. We need to get number one at top dead center. There is a timing pin located underneath the the injection pump. When both rockers on number 1 dont move and pushrods are free to spin, push the timing pin in under the pump, should push right in. When number 1  rockers are loose number 6 should have one loose and one tight.

No one else is finishing this truck but Don.

Sorry to hear about your uncle, and Im thankful for his service to this country. Congrats on your son, grandchild and daughter. tell your wife shes getting more beautiful with age. Flat tires are trivial.

And nothing is ever totalled....

I'm fairly certain Christ is going to rise again and lead us into the new kingdom before I ever get pressure readings or this truck runs....

So I tak ea hiatus for a few months and everything just stops?

11
I see a lot about brakes. But no pressure readings for fuel. You dont need brakes right now. Its already stopped. Brakes are for when the truck actually moves. Of which it is not.

I think this is one of the best "burns" I've seen on this forum! Outstanding, Lane!

wasnt trying to burn lol, just didn't make sense to me. Lol

12
I'm just trying to keep you motivated thats all. Ill be here. Waiting. Still

14
Lol, no not new. Been following the build for a few years. Just been in the shadows. But i see a guy that has a problem with some that i happen to be very knowledgeable in and i feel compelled to help. Plus the truck itself, I have a w250 myself and I'm all about keeping them going. Its personal for me i guess lol

I would stick with something like a 47rh, non electric. And can handle the brute of the cummins. I mean, why mix a mechanical engine with electric trans. One more thing to go wrong in a  crap hits the fan situation

16
Well??

$62.40 without shipping bud.

19
Next i need you to call me to discuss the next step. Too hard to text.

20
Ok, since i haven't got the full esn yet, i filled the extra number in with one that gave me a 5.9 b series with the p7100 inline pump, built in Aug of 1995. Close enough.
Minimum pressure to the injection pump at high idle must be 18 psi.
Didnt see if this was covered. But this is the first step, aside from making sure you have fuel in  the tank lol

21
Lol, help me help you Don.

22
Is this what its like being retired?

28
Hmmm never heard of anyone letting water stand in the way of glory....

29
Should be 8 digits

30
Missing a number on that ESN

31
Pay no mind to the 12.5. Engine number is your Engine Serial number. So let me see what i can dig up

first number

second number

third number seems to be the correct one to the pic you posted

33
3 things.

1. I've been watching Square D since before this forum was created and have read all the pages. Theres alot of reading! Lol so that summary helps.
2. White smoke = unburnt fuel. So with that being said the pump pressure either sucks, or its out of time by a tooth.
3.get me the engine serial number. 8 digits, probably starts with 7. And i will check out the pump specs on Quickserve.

34
Lol sorry Don.

What going on with the Cummins? Does it run or it runs rough?

35
Lol well i am a cummins mechanic....i would hope so.
I drive it everyday to work. Shes my baby.

Flying6,

I haven't got a chance to read everything since I've been off the grid. What's going on with the Cummins? I'm factory certified in B models, so let me know what I can do to help.

Another question, have you driven the truck yet enough  to see how the front springs feel? And do you think a dodge leaf will ruin the nicer ride? Im asking because my chevy 52s are doing the same and i have my dodge packs to disect

Don,
Did you ever add a spring from the old dodge pack to your chechevy packs to help with the flatness??

Don,

do you have a battery isolator setup for running dual batteries? I've wanted to put a reserve on my truck in the bed, but all the articles ive read you need an isolater, it allows the alternator to charge both batteries when need but keeps them separate otherwise. They are common in RV's that have a starting battery and then deep cells for running other things. From what I've read if you don't the 2 different batteries will drain each other and eventually go bad.

Oh no they aren't K5 front springs, they are k5 rear springs.

The stockers have a 1 13/16" arch, the K5 are 6 3/4.
