Upper 70s here today. Bucked a big oak and cut it up for firewood. It was about 65-70 ft tall and 28-30 inches about 3ft up from the ground.

Then moved some dead tree pile around and burning it.

Got the generator in place. Fuel trailer prepped and parked near by. Extra beer in the fridge. Indoor activities planned. So the ice storm will miss us because we are prepared.

I have a few of the LED worklights, work great. Even flooded one out and it works fine after drying. (lowes)

Here is a nice portable CAT Led worklight I got at Costco. Rechargable with USB chargers too. Worth every penny of the $30.

Ok, just for you Ken since you wondered where the pics were.
When I did the scouting mission was dark. No shootin.
But...today, we found some food on the hoof.

Forgot to snap a pic before we dealt with them.

But within a quarter mile, seen these two walking down the road.

We were done so they walked away. Seen a few more after these ones.
It appears the migration is starting, may go out with a buddy tomorrow to help him.

Good job Sam!

I spent some time this weekend looking for a 6x7 desert muley a buddy had a pic of, but regretted it. I had the flue, got soaked, and almost got the truck stuck multiple times because I was too lazy to haul the Ranger out there. uggh

Yesterday we put up 13 quarts of canned beef and made a bunch of jerky. Today sitting around unproductive. Watching tv and the rain. Had a bit of an ice storm last night nobody is going anywhere.I'm just waiting for this rain to freeze. Nobody will be moving for a while tomorrow either.

I spent most of the day playing taxi. I guess these new modern trucks everyone drives that have all these nanny safety features aren't real compatible with ice. Traction control is a joke on glare ice...kinda amusing.  I tossed the chains on Patch and motored around pretty much no problem. The afternoon was spent clearing trees/limbs from the roads so I could pick my wife up from work.

Loads of power outage and trees down out this way but the power n light has been kicking tail and judging by the scanner, they are doing a great job of keeping peoples heat on.

Time for me to hit the hay and see what tomorrow brings...

You put chains all the way around or just on the back? I guess you would want them all the way around for braking. My dad had an old dodge 2 wheel drive. Slant 6 and 3 on the tree. Put chains on he could go anywhere he wanted to.

Chains on all 4 corners...largely because the gravels are crowned steeply, and the ice was bad enough the truck would fall into the ditch sitting still.

It's a sunny nice day today, so the next few days will be clean up time.

Behind the barn...notice the derelict Jeep doing what they do best...rusting.

My Southern wind break... the topper under all the branches is totaled *sigh And I paid $7 for that thing at an auction.

The other supercharged 32Valve on the property...my late Fathers, and then our Mark 8. He bought it new, and Kay and I bought it from him in 2000 ish when he switched to Caddies. 217K miles of Paxton abuse, still a blast to drive. The battery died so it didn't get put under cover before the storm hit.......a decision I regret now.

Oh and was having a drink with a friend I do business with and he splurged on something I would have not spent money on. We had 20 year old reserve Pappy Van Winkle.

All I can say is wow!  Now I know what all the fuss is about.  I only wish it wasn't $75 a draw and harder to find than unicorn rainbow farts.

I had to take my boss to the hospital for cataract surgery. I killed some time by wandering around at menards. Looking for some door latches for the smoker. Struck out on that. Then I decided I could make some chicken feeders out of PVC pipe. It took me an hour of putting pieces together. They got Y pipes and triple pipes 90 degrees 45s 60s. I finally did it simple. 5 ft long 3 inch pipe with 2 90s on the  bottom. A 5 ft chunk cost $6.80. A 10 ft piece cost $7.99. I got the bosses Caddy. A 10 footer ain't going in. And I'm not paying double for a pre cut piece. I put everything back. On my way out the light bulb came on. Hey dummy you are in a fracking hardware store. Go buy a saw and cut the 10 footer in half. Found a $5 hack saw. Went back and got all my pieces. Had a worker measure 5foot out and mark it for me. I Had to explain what I was doing twice before he got it. So I basically got a free saw and saved 2 bucks. Over buying 2 pre cut 5 footers. I've been wanting a new hack saw anyway.

Tate it's not "that" expensive for what they charge for it. But when it gets to the middle men, knowing the limited distribution they often mark it up from $300 range to as much as $2000 I've seen.

Jon, in the lumber area they often have a table and hand saw for customers to use to cut the mounding they sell by the foot. Might've been able to cut it for free......

Well three or four days ago we were -30. This morning 35.
Not sure what to make of it...but the break from the cold is nice.

That's kind of crooked of them on he pipe, but a free saw is a free saw I suppose.

I've had a sampling of the 12, 15 or 18 and the 20. And currently have two bottles of the twelve in my closet. The 12 is only about 90-105 a bottle, one was a gift the other a fluke.

Back in 2009 when it wasn't near as popular I was at a lifelong friends wedding, his cousin brought a bottle of pappy.....we drank it out of cheap cups because that's all we had.... and we drank the whole bottle in one night.

If there's ever a get together at the Kentucky hide I will gladly bring and share, as it will probably remain untouched until then... along with the other dozen or so bottles of rarities. Collecting whiskey is a weird thing I like to do. Have a few first batch bottles of some things.

Sampling is much easier, but collecting is what I like. We have two liquor cabinets in the house, one in the dining room and the other in our closet where all the special non-regular company stuff is.

Ain't much of a collection persay, but it's almost entirely unopened.

And it will be a long time before it ever gets drank because I have stopped drinking.

Got tired of the 2012 Terrain of the wife's burning oil like there's no tomorrow plus she wanted a bigger vehicle so we traded it in today for this 2017 Silverado 1500.

Needless to say she is happy, but she's kinda upset that she won't get to show it off at work tomorrow since Im off for one more day I'll be taking it to Line-x to get the bed sprayed and will be ordering the undercover flex cover for it.

the blue bills were an accident. i shot the first 2 about .37 sec after legal shooting light first thing. they slipped in with a few swarming woodies. everything was black and gray and moving just shy of the speed of sound. doubled on the first 2 shots. and the 3rd kinda jumped us. still dark. popped through the trees about 12 yds out and floated in. didn't realize it was a blue bill until my buddy missed the first time and flared it alittle.

I got my 15 year old daughter for the weekend. I noticed she had a safety pin on her necklace. So I said whats the matter snowflake need a safe place? She had no idea what I was talking about. She said its broken so pinned it together. Shure enough it was broke. Then I had to explain the safty pin thing. She never heard of it. Kinda a proud moment then I thought she don't know any current events.  But then I don't know many 15 year old girls that care about much but anything but boys and shopping.

the blue bills were an accident. i shot the first 2 about .37 sec after legal shooting light first thing. they slipped in with a few swarming woodies. everything was black and gray and moving just shy of the speed of sound. doubled on the first 2 shots. and the 3rd kinda jumped us. still dark. popped through the trees about 12 yds out and floated in. didn't realize it was a blue bill until my buddy missed the first time and flared it alittle.

Feel your pain. shot and had to clean and eat a grebe once, first light with a bunch of greenwing teal. the non-sparkly mini duck was the only one I hit with my little break action 20ga.

Kids today don't know how easy they have it. When I was young, I had to walk 9 feet through shag carpet to change the TV channel.

Sorry Phil, but although that truck is cool, I'm not a Dodge fan.

Now if it was a k25 with a duramax.....
