Get it off your chest / whats bothering you
« on: August 28, 2018, 09:33:52 AM »
I thought at one point we had an actual CIEMR thread and not just a section....too many pages to look thru at the moment, so ill start a new one.

Lets use this thread to get whatever it is thats bothering us, or if there is something we just need to get off our chest out.

We can then move on with a happier mind set......   :knucklehead:   :beercheers:

If this takes off and there is a lot of participation, ill make it a sticky for easy access?

So my wonderful lady and I had a trip planned to go do a tour of the capital building in D.C. this week.

But because of the events surrounding the passing of a once honorable service member, who became a traitor, had his records sealed, and then went on to make people believe that he was for the service members benefit.  Our tour has been canceled.

In place of our tour of this nations public house, all of these pompous oxygen thieves have decided to lay this guy in state so they have a reason to congregate and fellate each other and waste more of our tax dollars doing nothing of value.

Gusss the Smithsonian will get my business as well as my paying respect to real american heros at arlington national cemetery.

Nate, when I was a kid the FBI tour was pretty interesting ( I recall the gun collection). The other one that stood out to me then was the Mint. However, as an adult I realize it is just worthless TP at some point......

The level of intelligence here in the outlying D.C. area is extremely high......

The following event just occured

I go down to the beverage counter here in my hotel and ask the very polite lady for a virgin bloody mary (time was 0930),

she gives me a very odd look, as though i just committed some sort of an egregious crime,  she then responds to me in her barley understandable/broken engrish..."no sell alcohol untill 10am"

I gave her a smile, a chuckle and asked her if a virgin bloody mary was considered an alcoholic beverage here in MD.

She then give me a puzzled look and says "i no understand?"

I asked her if there was a manager around, because i wished to speak with them,

She holds up her index finger as to say one moment and walks out from behind the beverage counter and disappears somewhere around the corner,  about 1.5 minutes later she returns with an older very squat lady that speaks about as perfect engrish as the orignal lady,

Well this second lady asked me if i was wanting a bloody mary,

I said to her that i would like a virgin bloody mary if that was possible,

The second lady got this huge look of suprise and understanding on her face and says to the first lady in their perfect engrish that she can make me one,

Well the first lady says to the second lady "i no understand how to make"

The second lady says to the first lady "just like drink but NO alcohol"

The first lady then gets the huge look of suprise and understanding on her face and says i understand, and commenced to make the beverage that i asked for.

Well during the making of asked for beverage, the first lady proceeds to not cap the mixing shaker completely and throws virgin bloody mary all over herself, the bar, the back wall......

It litterally took every ounce of will power i had to not bust out in complete laughter at this......

OK I'll play. Friday before last the wife takes the Yukon to Jiffy lube for an oil change. 4 days later, my oil pressure drops to nil, and only comes up under acceleration. she makes it home, but is starting to get lifter clack. Oil level is good, but there's black oil dripping from the filter, so I'm thinking they didn't change the filter out and it's clogged/collapsed, double gasketed and sucking air, any number of things that would be throwing off oil pressure. we live 5 min away so she drives it in yesterday and they send her down the street to their authorized repair facility, (a shop I sell parts to) and they tell her this is the 2nd rig from them in 2 weeks with the same issues and the motor will likely have damage. For an 04 Yukon Denali 6.0L w/ 198K on it, a failed sensor or even oil pump is not outside the realm of possibility, but prior to the oil change 40psi on startup and 35 avg after coming to temp consistent as the rising sun, then 4 days later zero? C'mon man I was born at night but not last night. Of course J.L. is preemptively denying any fault and tried to pin it on my wife by telling her she did the damage for driving after the light came on, but she traveled a very short distance and didn't drive it at all until they told her to bring it in as it was "most likely just a sensor". Course, this is all via text message while I'm cooking at the pub last night...

Keep us posted on this.  Had a similar not as catastrophic.  They broke the dip stick on my daughters 99 Mazda.  Said it was old and she needsd go buy a new one for 20 bucks.  I called and raised hell.  Called the office of that crap place and raised more hell.  She got full credit of oil change and a extra oil change later. Yeah right!!

I’m not fond of oil change places, either I do it or the dealer. Only time dealer does it is when it’s under a service package.

Is there a plan for that? As capable as you are & thinking long term surely there were considerations when you guys purchased that beautiful view?

We were supposed to have had remodeled the boat house/enclosed carport already into two bedrooms and have been working on the garage but now I'm spending my time serving papers on my former contractor to get my $$ back and maintain the permits I had pending while trying to find another contractor to fill in... 1st pic shows where the roof line will carry to the right with scissor trusses converting the long flat roof to the additional bedrooms. second pic shows the space along side the fence to the fog line that we own the rights too where the garage would go.

Tate, you guys up there don't have too much for setback rules I take it.

Grandfathered in on the setback from the bulkhead, and the previous owners bought back the easement from the county on the road when parking became scarce. a few feet off the fog line, and I'm still 15' off the crown of the road and would fit a big enough garage for the Yukon or the boat and possibly a little extra mother in law apartment up above. height restrictions are 35" and under for us.

But first I need a running truck, and my contractor money back. baby steps

Just think of quick lube places as shops that hire kids, that were fired from their grass cutting jobs.
Low talent, low wage, below average IQ. That's the only way the shop can keep oil changes so cheap, and still be profitable... that plus volume=below average quality, even on something so basic.

I am glad to be away from that cesspool!  some of the historic sites were pretty cool as well as the sites that pay tribute, but all in all that place is one that I will never go back to willingly ever again!

I wanna play,

So I wouldn’t say I am a genius but I do know a pretty good amount of crap about a lot of useful crap.

Tonight I had an argument with a 69 year old lady about a toro sprinkler 570z and the screw on the top and what it is used for

Holley hell if that didn’t turn into an argument.   I have installed, removed, smashed, glued, lost, found, unearthed, Buried so many of these thing in my life I am sure I could write the instruction manual. Be it not very complicated.

The screw is a rate of flow adjustment.  It might turn when you adjust the pattern but it is not meant to be the pattern adjustment!!!! If you open the pattern larger you need more flow to achieve the distance of coverage.   Trying to explain that to a woman, who thinks the only smart person to walk this earth was my deceased father (20 years ago) and that the damn apple didn’t fall from his tree is beyond me.   So yelling ensued, profanity flying.  My kids screaming for waffles.    I lost it and she turned from ready to fight into the victim faster than I could blink.   It was my fault, my problem, I did it....... when she approached me and asked what was wrong with it in the first place.   Next time the response will be.  Go call a sprinkler guy, I just don’t know what that is.

dave,

remember 2 things:

1. its all about the delivery

2. regardless of what we think they want to hear, its just best to keep it simple.

in the end, does it really matter who was right or wrong?

did the sprinkler head get fixed?

That’s the best part, she broke it and asked me what was wrong.  Next time the response will be.  I don’t know.  Call someone who does sprinklers

My turn.

Setting up for a job this weekend. We have to take apart a specialty fabric ceiling to replace the 10 yr old lights above it. There are 4 conference rooms in an ultra high finish wealth management firm in Atlanta Ga with tables that range from 5.5’-7’ wide and 7-22’ long. The tables under said ceilings cannot be moved so we must scaffold over them.  The scaffolding company we hired was new to us but available. We showed onsite at 1pm today..as did they. Then their delivery of hardware and parts came but some were too tall, like 10’ tall and of course wouldn’t fin in a space with 8’ ceilings. So...our journey begins. Here is it almost 7pm and we are waiting on a 3rd delivery because everything has been a disaster. The field guys are great but obviously the office needs help. So forget dinner with the fam, my two beautiful girls whom I haven’t seen for a week and some much needed R&R and bourbon. Uhg. This was supposed to only take from 13:00-14:30. RE. Diculous.  I have to be back in the am all day tomorrow and possible Sunday as well.

OK, on Patriots Day, one of the ass clown Socialist Science teachers gets on the PA to lead the school (2100+ High School Students) in the pledge and a moment of silence in honor of the day.  In true revisionist history fashion, said rectal amusement character edited the Pledge, leaving out "Under God" - I REALLY want to stomp the living crap out of the prick!  Suggested that if he can't say the pledge correctly, he stay off the PA and sent a copy of that email to the Superintendent........F-in socialist snowflake bastard.......I HATE SOCIALIST DEMOCRATS.

Jiffy Lube re-cap/update

Date of service, 8/17/18.
Date of failure, 8/24/18 w/ 75 miles. (oil pressure sensor starts fluctuating up and down with RPM and setting off warning bells.)
Parked until I could get a look at it sunday when I saw black oil dripping down the side of the filter. Thinking it may be a double gasket scenario they tell her to bring it by on Wed to look at it. halfway there, (less than 6 miles) oil pressure drops to zero and alarms are going off, but she keeps driving because, well, she was told to. they get it on the rack, check the filter and dipstick and send her down the street to their authorized mech. he throws a known good filter on it and has fluctuating pressure issues as before, so we schedule to get it on the rack and drop the oil pan to inspect which JL is already fighting to pay for. He starts with draining the oil and then calls me and sends me these pics. total less than 85 miles and 8 days of active driving since the oil was changed and it looks like used diesel oil... I'm waiting on a call back from the district manager today, and I would say wish me luck, but at this point I should probably add him to the prayer list for hearing damage...

My bet is accidentally pumped waste oil in, metal clogged my pickup. I'm not paying a dime until I get confirmation they're going to make it right. until then, I have the pint of garbage oil and my attorney at the ready.

Maybe just get it fixed (need the car right?) and hand them the bill. With what you have in hand it would be a slam dunk in small claims.

Maybe just get it fixed (need the car right?) and hand them the bill. With what you have in hand it would be a slam dunk in small claims.
Depending on their response today or tomorrow that is probably going to be the plan. Right now, my mechanic friends and the shop it's sitting at think the metal is most likely from the waste oil and likely what clogged up the pickup tube. especially since the day after arriving at the shop he started it in the morning and the ticking was very light and oil pressure was fluctuating again, since gravity likely allowed some of the sludge to fall from the pickup tube screen. all very hopeful things, I know.

And if they pumped it from a waste tank, think what was sitting at the bottom of that?

I’d keep a sample of that oil and have an analysis done. Might be handy as evidence.

So they are fighting me on this. "Well you know Mr Hudson, that vehicle DOES have a lot of miles on it and when engine components fail there is a lot of fire and metal there that could make the oil look dirty, and the oil pan plug and filter were tight and the oil level was full so I'm failing to see where we are at fault here". Before I let him know what I thought of his assessment, and his assumptions of me as a consumer, and the fact that I have been in the automotive industry for nearly 20 years,  I let him know I would be sending the oil in for analysis. Where do you guys suggest I turn for this? a scant molecule of diesel oil and I would think I could prove my theory of them using waste oil in my Yukon.

Unless your motor had a major fail they have nothing. You would expect them to try to blame anything but their work.

200K is nothing on motors now, even worn bearing don't get warn in 4 days!

Have it analyzed and get low mile motor dropped in and sue them. If it has diesel or other bearing material in it you are golden!

Negative. I haven't gone there yet. right now I'm working on getting it off their "authorized mechanic's" lot, since he's unable or unwilling to make a definitive statement either way. (doesn't want to rock the boat and upset his steady work supplier) and my co worker and I are going to try to get the pan dropped and do a real inspection possibly this weekend. I need a vehicle, so I may have to settle with getting it fixed and going after them after the fact because I'm sure a their tactic would be to drag their heels until I go away.

Tate, could you talk their shop guy into pulling the oil sample instead of you doing it. Hard for them to reject the findings if their contractor pulls the sample and sends it off.

If it is your vehicle, have it towed to your mech, not "their" mech. Sure their mech wants wants keep going, but if he is just their stooge it could show a pattern.

Look at the bearings, if shot replace the motor. Plus you will have the removed parts to show what the oil did.

Sorry, late to the party. Is the motor actually damaged or just the pickup plugged? Or you don’t know yet? Reason I ask is because you can run a motor a bit with no oil, not recommended but you had oil the pressures were just jumping everywhere right?

& Tate, I’ve had a rough week but was just thinking about you (house contractor and now this) and you’re still getting attacked worse than me right now so more prayers coming your way brother!
