I’d bet my truck, she is forever thankful. And shoot, she worked on it as much as Shawn did :)

Also, don’t you tow kind of regularly? Isn’t a diesel a better option for you? Or would this be a replacement daily driver while keeping the duramax?

The towing duty for work has been pushed off onto other folks,  not getting paid for my truck so I put a stop to it as much as possible.

This would see daily use and allow me to park the max until needed,   23 mpg on the odometer is pretty nice.
Drive smooth and quiet.   I like it.  Just not this one.    I’ll hold out for a red one  and get my yard paid off in a few months first

HOLD THE PHONE....

Another red truck junkie???? Also, good choice on holding off for exactly what you want, and for other things to be taken care of. We have jumped at good opportunities in the past only to loose out really bad, simply to save a dollar up front.

Nah, I raised her Dave. She is far from ungrateful and she’s currently (as she has been for at least a year or two now) working two jobs. So it is far from free, a good deal sure she’s my kid and the smiles are worth it.  :beercheers:

I’m just jealous is all lol

I’ll hold off. I wanted to drive that truck  to verify it’s a change I could make.  The diesel emissions are getting out of hand and I don’t run the truck enough to justify it.

But like yesterday I moved some doors and an air compressor and while I don’t need a diesel I did need a pickup so...

I think that 6.2 with the 8 speed has good power, rides smooth, towing cap of 10k I think.  That will do for most anything and still have the seat-o-meter to make me smile once an exhaust is added

Jr. Was referring to the 8.1l specifically. Not sure what the first year for 400hp trucks were.

My 6.2 is 420hp with the 8 speed. I just wish it didn’t have the nanny governor on it. Defueling at 94 while passing in a 75mph zone gets dicey.

I hear they did that because the driveshaft can explode. Tempted to upgrade the driveshaft and tune it. If I open Pandora’s box it might end up converted to LT4 supercharger and 600 hp.

Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
I highly doubt you'd stop at 600HP. Remember that tank of a suburban of mine made 700. Tuned LT4, 700 would be a working minimum number I'd think, more likely 800-850.

Think 400-500 is fine when it doesn't weigh another 1-2k with "stuff"

Pulled the new trailer to the dump yesterday since DUG loaded it up. Dmax and dump were 13k, load was only 1600, but love the dump!

Ha on the another red truck. My boy is also a red truck guy. Lol.

Deck at the house was starting to have the rotten aroma.
Turns out it was because it’s rotten as all heck.
I may or may not take pictures, but the posts to the trellis literally fell to the ground as I removed the screens and lattice walls. Decking was bad too. It’s going. As are the joists. Was trying to save them, turns out they’re rotten too. It did me a solid 14 or 16 years. Mama and I don’t remember for sure.

New deck, ready for assembly.
Instructions not included. Lol.

And that load is way bigger than the shopping list looked in my mind.

6k, no way!!

Had it weighed sometime ago, 6800 without a lot of what it in there now. I can see 8k easy, 4k trailer (both are a little more).

Went an qualified today, just 20 rounds all in the pin. Took longer to drive to and from the outdoor range. Was a toasty 100f.

Yeah wasn’t in the plans for the year but it’s better than falling four feet out of the back door.

I think my truck sits in around 8400 with all the crap I have in it all the time.

I carry what I consider basic tools. Real jacks, wheel hub, basic camping/survival gear. I also have a shell, roll out deck and a second level on it that is great for the bulky camping gear.

Then many of us have oversize tires, bumpers and such. AAA only can do so much and go so far.

Triple A?    What happened to phone a friend?  Jr I know you are making trips across states like crazy.

I run minimum needs in my truck around town.  I would have to phone a friend to bring me a spare tire and a jack and a wrench at this point if I got a flat tire.

No reason to load up on a bunch of things to either get stollen, lost, or borrowed.

I have enough tools in the truck to fix minor things, tires, alternator, starter etc.

But I do pull axles from vehicles at yards every other week it would seem so kinda goes with territory

One thing that is a must have is a ky flag aka blue tarp, sucks to be on ground in mud FYI.

Like your spare tire mine doesn’t fit In the bed.  So I leave it home unless I feel an itch of bad luck.    Tire and tool box kill the bed for any type of construction stuff I would be hauling.   Yes I said tool box.  It has straps and jumper cables. Some washer fluid usually too

For real I drive 6 min from my house.  I can walk my happy ass home if I need to, General maintenance should elevate most problems.
Prepare before you go or prepare to fix shiz while your gone?

Ken when was the last time you got stopped to use any of those tools you pack?

Jr changed a flat tire the other day.  He had to phone the neighbor to take him to town to get the tire replaced.

You guys are killin me dragging the garage toolbox around.

Makes your old man feel goods feel better knowing you are “prepared” ?

Dave, JR had to call someone because he's just plain old.
I use tools quite often when camping, or anywhere not my home or shop... jumper cables, jack, air hose, electric impact and sockets (which my friends have come to expect from me just because I'm supposed to be a mechanic, plus I refuse to use hand tools unless forced to), tarp, plug kit, fuses, electrical supplies, lubricants, coolant, zip ties, chain ratchet straps, mule tape, and a few others.

I think the only thing I don't have is washer fluid. Lol
.. wait..no washer fluid but do have some bug remover made by seafoam in there!

CH-21 Shawnee, unofficially called the Flying Banana. Predated the Chinook.

So this morning i replaced the 5 micron whole house sediment filter.

And without fail it appears that the previous owners being true to their actions NEVER replaced the filter before......

So i guess in 6 months when i replace it like it should be, well see the difference.

Last week, i broke the water softener brine tank down and cleaned that.  The sediment that was in there was SSSOOOOOOOOOO DISGUSTING (i actually forgot to take a pic of it) and found out that the grid plate was completely broken into little pieces.

Just my luck....ill bet the rest of the kinetico softener/filtration system will go to schiff and well see a bill for an easy $3K

Pretty cool Jon and Dave.
Pretty high altitude to still have that much snow? My place in Idaho was melted off about a month ago.

Nate, I ran and spent a lot of money on maintaining, the higher end softeners at my house and shop. Finally switched to the cheaper ones and they work just as good, so far. (Like 800 on Amazon).
Just throwing that out there

Unboxed and used my Evolution chop saw today to cut some 2 inch angle. All I have to say is where have you been all my life!

Been one break down after another. I messed up first thing. Put red fuel in the truck. Knuckle head. Supposed to be chopping haylage all day. Chopper plugged up causing other breakage. Thought it was fixed but nope. Broke again. And to top it all off now I sunburned the back of my neck. Texas redneck Aint got nothing on me today! This is gonna suck tomorrow when we finish. It already hurts. Currently sitting in the field waiting for the guys to back from town hopefully with parts. If not, go home I guess.

SOS

What type of dialectic grease would you put on the pins of the ecm on a duramax.   I can see a clear substance but I don’t know what it is.
