Took the camper in to get the fridge checked out. Hit Walmart after. Came out to huge puddle of antifreeze under the freightliner. Looks like I'm getting a head gasket for Christmas. I called the shop I usually use. Just off the top oh his head he's saying 6 grand but will look it up to be sure. Recommend a new head because they like to crack. Add another grand. Most of the cost is labor. Book calls for over 50 hours.

Ouch, and I thought my head machine work on the cummins was expensive.....

I imagine it’s been a year or better since I ventured to the local Mall,  man oh man has everything closed up.  It’s sad to see out once glowing economy

Took grandpas old bluepoint bench grinder today and replaced the power cord

It used to shock you if you touched the body while it was plugged in

Now she is ready for use until the internals give out

Does anyone have a clue on how to order or decide what grinder wheels are measured by?  Never replaced these.

I have a wire wheel, in good shape.
I have a buffer wheel, needs replaced
I have a grinder wheel, I’d say finer finish.  It’s not very porous.  It needs replaced.

Not sure what I am ordering or looking for?
Wheel overall size?
ID of wheel?
How do they measure the Grit/ coarseness ?

Charles, these have got to come directly from a butcher, or are those obtainable at your grocery store? We bought beef from the rancher in AZ, and haven’t bought beef since we’ve been down here. I miss it.

Dave, I like a wire wheel and a grinder wheel. Just be sure you have a guard for the wire wheel, they will throw splines but clean and round edges nice.

I will have to double check but last I knew we have a few pure bread Angus on the hoof ready to go. Fed on a wagyu feed ration. The processor we use can ship anywhere in the country. Packaged or whole sides.
We fed a Holstein dairy steer on a wagyu ration. The marbling was incredible. I cant imagine what these Angus will look like on the inside.

We have a large chain store that carries some prime and will cut to your specification

These were only a two hour round trip to find. Worth it.

Now if you’ve ever heard of Tillman Fertita (owner of the Rockets, golden nugget casino, host of billionaire buyer, and owner of many restaurants across the country) he recently started selling the same cuts and steaks he sells in his high end steakhouses on line shipped fed ex.  Mainly dry aged prime. I’ve been very impressed with them. Landryskitchen.com  I couldn’t get them here in time for them to be thawed so we went to a local store

There is a lot of science involved and truthfully I dont understand all of it so there is not real quick answer. But I can give you a comparison to what we use to feed "regular" beef cattle compared to wagyu.
Its been a while since we had beef cattle so I am trying to remember how we did it. We got them in at 700-900 lbs and fed them out to 1300-1400 lbs. We did use growth hormones. Like little pellets you put them under the skin in their ear. Put them in with a spring loaded gun with a large needle. They were fed lots of cracked corn, corn silage, haylage and a liquid protein supplement with a certain medication in it so they dont go into heat. Basically birth control for cattle. I cant remember what that was called. The goal was to fatten them up as quickly as possible while keeping the animal healthy. That would take from 4-6 months depending on the size of the animal when we started.  If the cattle we purchased came off a pasture we would have to put grass hay in the feed ration. Going straight to corn off grass will bloat them and ultimately they could die from it. If one did get sick with pneumonia or hoof rot or something there was no limit to what kids of medications we can use.  We had salmonella run through the herd once. That was nasty nasty stuff.  We later found out they had it when we bought them. Contracted it from a pasture fertilized with chicken manure.

Wagyu is the breed of cattle we feed now. We do not own them. The wagyu ration is similar to beef but adjusted to get the best meat the breed produces. We use way less cracked corn.  More silage and Ryelage lots of grass for fiber.  They are hormone free no growth hormones and no so called "birth control". They grow way slower It takes 2 years to fill out on a wagyu ration. We are limited to what we can medicate them with if they get sick.

This is out client https://n40beef.com/ This company is owned by a very hard working young man. He came up with this plan while in collage at the University of Nebraska Lincoln. Got a little help from from his dad and grandpa but not much. As a matter of fact his dad works for him now.
We were going to get out of the cattle business and I knew he was running out of room on his place, so I jokingly said we would lease him our feed lot. He thought for a minute and said how about you finish them out for me. Our partnership grew from there. We are in our 4th year of this and growing.

I sometimes thing it is odd how so many of us and friends of mine in other circles broach the same subjects at about the same time.

On my farm I am going to try to get a cow or two on it next summer some time. My goal is to raise wagyu cattle as well. If you goggle Cincinnati fine dining you will come up with Jeff Ruby's and the Precinct. Same owner, different restaurants. Fine dining and way expensive. But get this, as exclusive as Ruby is I just found out he buys his beef from the farm that touches mine to the south!

I was talking to my western boundary neighbor who has a couple hundred cattle and mentioning I was wanting to buy a couple of cows after I get a pasture fenced in. I mentioned I wanted to get into Wagyu and that's when he let me in on the Jeff Ruby secret. I'd like to keep 1-2 cows in production for me and my extended family and a few more fattening up for sale to local restaurants.

We shall see. I have much to learn to be sure

Don I first went to the precinct in 1998. When I drove to OH to buy my fifth wheel in 2013 I called them and asked if they would seat me even though I was wearing camo shorts and a politically incorrect t shirt. They accommodated me like I was in a tux. Sat me in a booth downstairs in the bar and I ate like a king.

One of my all time favorite steakhouses.

Mom still owns farm ground back in Indiana, which is leased and has been for twenty years or so by a family (who bought the family farm minus her cut of acreage) who grows organic hay and beef. This ground is near Ft Wayne (NE corner of state) and the beef is processed in Terre Haute (southern western side of state). It is then sold to Hugh end restaurants across the state. He does very well for himself, he also likes everyone to know about it. Doesn’t bode well for him when he approaches me about buying Mom’s ground every few years though.

Been wanting a decent welding table/work bench for a while. I've had a rusted sheet of 1/2" plate for over 10 years, and recently got some kind of homemade, short, something... not sure what it was for, but made out of heavy wall 2.5" square tube.
Today was sandblasting day, and I swore I'd never do it again...
...so I talked my buddy into suiting up while I ran the compressor and kept the pot full.

Note to self: Don't buy bags of media from a place that stores it outside. It finally rained here a couple days ago, and must have soaked through the bags. Not fun.

Just offer it to him for 25k an acre . Unless that is common price In that area, then double it!

Lol, last time he approached me I told him selling it created a lot of issues for me. So he kept pestering me for a number. I gave him one, albeit pretty high. He then replied he thought I was being overly optimistic. To which I said that is a valid possibility but again I can do that when I don’t want to sell!

I see them all Dave, must be on your end.

Funny Ken, I have been eyeing tables waiting for something to come up. Some are just to far and most way to pricey. Almost had a 4x12 about 2 weeks ago just 40mi away. Plenty of time to look right now.

I saw that. They went after them because of the kit they were selling. Someone didn’t like that a person could buy a pile of parts and build themselves a firearm.

Which is doable in many ways, P80 just simplified it!

I’m guessing they will fight it, will be interesting to see where it goes.

Found one of these a few blocks away yesterday. Been looking for something similar to tote around if need be.

Needs a little cleaning, has a cutting and welding tip. Just a C note and the tanks need filling.

Then I broke down and used the 20% off anything at HF and got a Vulcan Omnipro 220 multi process welder. Plus they has just dropped the price from $999 to $870. https://www.harborfreight.com/omnipro-220-industrial-multiprocess-welder-with-120240-volt-input-63621.html

Accs. seem about standard, 10ft Mig, 110/220 plugs about 6ft and a regulator. No tig gun or peddle and no rods. For what they have I can get much better too.

I will give it a good run in and post in the tool thread before it gets sent away to the ridge. Lots of reviews on Youtube so I won't go that far.

Looks shiny, but faded.

What did the cabinet shop buy, welder or torch?

We've been trucking a lot this past couple weeks. Hauling AG lime from the Quarry. 3 trips a day around 400 miles total. They spread it on the fields to aquire the desired the acidity in the soil.
Mother in law gave me my Christmas present early. We put up 10 lbs of bacon.
Heading to pigeon forge next week to have Christmas with family. My brother and his family from Florida are coming up. Some of the wife's family from Kentucky, my aunt and uncle from Nashville and my mom are all going. So I will not be surprised if we have to quarantine after.
January 1-3rd is our winter camp out with the Nebraska preparedness group. So not only prepared for this trip but starting to get stuff together for that as well.

Got the top of the TH coated before more rain. In bad shape, will need roof frames redone.

After I demoed that fifthwheel I have here for the bed,  the construction methods are subpar.  They aren’t designed to be reworked.  I wouldn’t wash my time.  Buy a newer rig, new Gen, new fridge, new parts.

I agree offload that to someone else

I don't need a new rig. No one wants to use it or put the effort in to clean or prep when we use.

Sealed the roof to get me by up at the ridge for the building phase coming up. A new roof may happen after I have a place to park indoors up there. Not worth much to sell it, but doubt I will need it after the build.

After it dried for over a day, we got a little rain. It was still tacky and didn't fair well at all being water based.

I had patched and filled many bad spots before this, so I doubt there was further damage. I plan on getting a gallon of the good stuff now.

Side of the house, fine really. It looks to have settled near the edges where the issues were.

Since I have had some “extra time” I started polishing the traverse so it’s in clean looking condition.   Not that it increases the value.

It’s amazing what a 3000 grit pad and water does for simplifying this process.  As long as you have a good micro pad to buff the clear finish back up your golden.    Takes a lot of the factory orange peel texture out

Anyone interested in me starting a detail thread?
