WDYDT (What Did You Do Today)
« Reply #14400 on: March 12, 2021, 09:12:09 PM »
Nice Nate.  That’s a lot of clothes hangers.....

Picked up the van from the body shop.  New headlights, fogs and a drivers front fender.

Ready for another 135k

Next is motor mounts, which are stupid expensive.  I may put in a VCM Fooler to stop the cylinder deactivation instead.  These motor mounts are active mounts at $800 each from the dealer and only the OEM mounts seem to have a good result.  They are designed to dampen the harmonics when the engine deactives 2 cylinders for a 6-4.

I think I will now name this vehicle “the training van” since one daughter is learning in it and the other is right behind.

Dave, I’d be really angry.  Call them and give them a chance to do the right thing.

Snow finally hit last evening. I shoveled 2-3” at around 9:30 last night and then another 8-10” this morning at 7. Going to go out at noon and hit it again as it’s coming down pretty fast and steady. Weather forecast shows 90+% chance until at least 4pm. Heavy wet snow, yes I have a snow blower but probably need the exercise.

Powered blower or not, you will get a workout. Still have to shovel some. I probably will need a small one too.

I scored almost everything I need for converting the 6.2 sub to a serpentine setup, post more in that thread.

I’ve shoveled three times, last was about five hours ago. Shoulders are tired, I’ll be pulling out gas powered snowblower later tonight. With 45 mph winds it’s kind of futile. Snow is supposed to taper off this evening late with only an inch overnight. Baylee has to open her coffee shop at 4:30 am so I’ll be taking her as that Volkswagen isn’t going anywhere. We’ll see how excursion fares......

She likes heated steering wheel and seats.......

It’s in my garage but with storage insurance only on it atm. Everything is slowly shutting down for tomorrow now. Including her coffee shop and trash pick up.

Grateful for small engines, got it blowed back open. Unfortunately there is 30” of snow in the street. They normally do not plow side streets here and it’s illegal for private contractors to drop blades on public roads. I know, how stupid can you get.....

I usually do a larger portion of the street in a storm like that with my blower,  usually to the direction the plow comes from so that I don’t get so much shoved in my driveway

I also spent years giving the local plow guys chocolate chip cookies when they came by in a snow storm. Ran out and stopped em mid street and the started turning the blade to the other side lol. The neighbor across from me never knew why he always got so much and Me so little

I blowed both drives out past the girls cars parked on the street. Even with the snow blower I’m whipped as it was almost too much for my 5hp wheeled blower. The snow is still pretty heavy and wet. I’ll take another shot at it in the morning. Hoping they get our subdivision hit with at least one pass down the side streets.

After getting dug out at home I arrived at shop to this. They’re bringing in skid loader and more plow trucks. This was plowed yesterday afternoon. Guess it’s a paperwork from home office day today.

Talked with the person in charge of the dipcraps doing the cable work,   He told me that Dot has a glue that they can patch it with real easy.     I lost it,   I will not be having them put glue on my driveway to hold it together. $18000 worth of concrete slab + the man hours.    It won’t look like crap when they leave!   It was in perfect condition when they started and they will make it look the same....... on and on.   I don’t know how it will turn out.

Red, try this. For that stupid top mount thing. The replacement is like 2-3 hundred. Buy the replacement Volvo press in bushing for $40 and swap in in. I did that for a buddies Ford something or another. Took 20 minutes.

General recommendation: Hire an attorney. Use him as often as things like this happens. I have mine do everything.
For that he'd get the $18K, then labor for the new grass that they will chew up, for parking elsewhere and lost time and inconvenience. You would be looking at $30K easy. Pay the man $500 and go get a sweet tea.

Looked at a different car for the daughter. 08 Impala. 200,000 miles $1,500.  Well maintained. Heated leather seats. Sun roof.
The shop that serviced it for the past couple years is the one selling it. Mechanic shop/car dealer.  I trust the guy I do a lot of business with him and he usually cuts me a deal because he knows we always pay on time.

Was able to get back into shop today. Used the excursion and pulled a buddies semi stuck on ice and then an oil field guy who drove ten foot off pavement and sunk his truck with bald tires. He was stuck pretty good and all I had to pull with were chains. Rear limited slip worked well by the smell of rubber.

Then I diagnosed the front passenger unit bearing going out on the excursion. So it received a new skf napa unit outside in 35 degree weather as my shop is full currently.

Not sure if I want to paint them brown or leave them white so they are visible to those lurking

So SKF wheel bearings are pretty good? Found a pair of Timkens for the duramax on eBay for about $220... does that seem suspect?

Springtime is beginning here. Trees are budding and I am enslaving my pre-rangers to clean up the year. Have the Altoz fired back up and ready to whack some grass.

That seems low for timken, I just purchased timken units for the fat super 60 under my fummins and they were $350+ each

SKF I normally shy away from, however my napa parts guy stated these had 3 yr 45k warranty and he hasn’t had any back for returns. I’m planning on selling the excursion later this year most likely. I didn’t have time to wait for timkens with it torn apart in my parking lot and snow inbound.

Skf was $200 + some change

That’s what I’m afraid of... some cheap Chinese knockoff perhaps.

Seller also claims 3yr AND 10yr warranty... 3yr full refund or replacement, 10 yr replacement only.

Same Timkens on rock auto are $140/ea.

That’s what I’m afraid of... some cheap Chinese knockoff perhaps.

Seller also claims 3yr AND 10yr warranty... 3yr full refund or replacement, 10 yr replacement only.

Same Timkens on rock auto are $140/ea.

Chinese don't always use good steel. No worries though, the Harris administration has a plan to sell them tons of good steel from all the confiscated guns that are either in her plans or part of the covid relief bill which just passed.
Now there's some good news, hugh?

What guns, I lost all mine, they sank in the lake (600ft deep here!)

Anyway with that, I brought home my Weatherby SA-459 today, dang it is smooth. Now just remove the plug and I may put a red dot on the rail. Taking to the Ridge this weekend, its new home. I would like a light for it too.

I'll never realize any benefit from the improved lawn mower parts and better brake rotors. Remember the part where they have to pry my cold dead fingers off the weapon? I expect that will happen after their third attempt/assault to remove mine...

Started with some high school shop help today,   Took a few of the keyless chucks home today to see about fix, rebuild, or replace.

Albrecht 1/32-1/2 1-13 keyless chuck. Two of them and a unknown chuck.

Broke down to parts

Added a little heat to separate.   But we got it handled.

The bearings all seem in good shape, the wear parts like the jaws need replaced ( ordering from eBay) and I need some new roll pins to hold it closed on re assembly

Timken took a 6 week hiatus during the start of some illness related global panic back in march of last year. they are now at least 6 weeks behind on orders to us, their largest non-big-three automotive consumer, and prices are at an all time high. prime time for some good knock offs to flood the market with a super attractive low price... or could just be a guy closing shop and getting rid of inventory. I would request high resolution pictures of the part numbers stamped on the bearings as these are uniquely Timken font. Koyo went through this about 10 years ago and the only thing other than early failure and poor fitment that gave them away was the spacing on the lettering and numbers was way off.

Awesome, thanks Tate! You know what they say... if it’s too good to be true, it probably is. I tried to buy them the other night, but the charge didn’t go through on the CC... some silly fraud watching stuff ;)

I think I better stick to ordering from some place reputable, like Rock Auto, that if they’re not correct I at least have some recourse.

Unless you know a guy... ;)
