Top Gun: Maverick
« on: June 27, 2022, 11:20:49 AM »
OK, I've seen it twice

I'm just going to come out and say it

This is simply the best movie I have ever seen

Hands down, the winner

I love it. Tom Cruise is on top of his game, and he brings out the best in these new upcoming actors.

It's authentic, it's believable, It's real, doesn't feel fake at all

It brought out the feelings I had when I flew in the Marines version of Top Gun, where I got the chance to fly against actual Top Gun students in that school at the time. It rips your guts out, you feel victorious and defeated. The girls show up at the pool all trying to meet the pilots selected to fly there...all that stuff.

I want to be young again and this time, instead of flying Army, I'll go Naval aviation and catch the tail end of the reign of the F-18

If you read the comments from cruise they intentionally held this in the can for more than 2 years to make sure it debuted on the big screen.  He also insisted on very limited use of CGI so most of the scenes are real.  They even had to modify the Sony HD cameras to fit in the cockpits to give that real feel.

And another cool tidbit. Cruise is an accomplished pilot in his own right and the P51 in the movie is his own personal plane

Also loved the nod to skunkworks

Kids today don't know how easy they have it. When I was young, I had to walk 9 feet through shag carpet to change the TV channel.

Yea, that hypersonic aircraft, in the beginning, is pretty close to some believed to have been seen in Lockheed inventions. Not sure about Mach 10, although it is possible, orbiters have been exceeding that for decades. But a pure self-contained body made to fly in the atmosphere is likely to be down around Mach 5 ish. I think the rocket Bell X-15 went much faster, but that was a rocket. A scramjet has limitations too, and only this theoretical pulse wave engine might generate hypersonic speeds.
Cool never the less
Good looking girl and Porsche too!
Notice how they brought back "Penny"
She was mentioned in the original...Mav was in trouble with the Admiral for buzzing Penny in a F14...

We have seen it twice, all the bio type shows on the streaming service about the show were good to watch also.  Remember the days I wanted to fly fighter jets

Recent news I have a cousin who just got accepted as a F-35 pilot.  Should be interesting to follow his career as the only one in all ou fmailys to follow the military life. Especially this far!  Many served their two years and were out.  He seems to be full steam into it which is nice.

We enjoyed and can’t wait to add it to the DVD shelf next to the OG film

Yeah, it was a great film! And the beginning scenes with the skunkworks bird apparently got the chinese all fired up because they thought it was real. LOL! ;-)

Who’s to say it isn’t or at least isn’t real close. I remember building a model of a “concept” for the stealth fighter years before I went into the Air Force and lo and behold, the F117 I stood twenty feet away from at Ramstein looked pretty darn close to what that model was.

I think that thing is a lot closer to reality than people would suspect. Hiding in plain sight and all that...

Have been trying to get seats, but with all the reserved theaters now, no go. Kids are at camp for a week, try again when they get back.

Saw all the previews and the interview and a "spoiler" on youtube telling much of the storyline.

I really like most Cruise movies but they sure love to tear him down over his religion.

His belief in Scientology is way out of place...its a cult. But I am not judging the man, just watching the story he acts out.

I'm addicted

Just saw it for the fifth time!

And I think I'll go see it the last day it shows on the big screen for an even 6 viewings

This film will just not be the same on less than a big screen.

What a sensory blessing. It is a love note to military combat flying.
