Sorry Dave,  I feel ya.  Been hemorrhaging money for several weeks now.  We’ve been displaced for nearly two weeks with painters taking over the house.  All walls, trim, ceiling, cabinets.  We had to pack almost as though we were moving.  Washing machine was leaking, so there’s a new one on the way.  They won’t be done by the time the kids go back to school, so there’s a rental house for a week at least, new tires on the truck, and lo a bent wheel, so there’s that. Oldest going to college next year….looking at those costs…On top of some self inflicted expenses, and its been a doozy of a month.

Thankful today for the saying “cooler minds prevail”

Now story.

Been working with a super and his shovel hand for months off and on ( we are all for the same company) and as time goes on you get more comfortable teasing fellow co workers and such…. Shovel hand comes up to me today and says he’s hungry and I responded with I have a snack for ya. Not bit but would hold ya over, the super laughs and says he better not bite and such.. we all trade back and forth for a bit then out of nowhere the shovel hand flicks a lit cigarette into my truck.   My first concern is the hole my seat is now going to have from his lack of tact. Then the smell that I won’t get out for weeks… then I reached for my 15” sledge and started to open my door, one more breath and I decided to find the cig butt and focus elsewhere…. Found the but smoldering in my seat and brushed it out the door and rolled up my window and sat back down.   Not sure what mess a iron worker sledge does to a head but I didn’t find out today.

So the story goes……

WWII vet granddad was in ft Wayne in the summer in the darker neighborhood as he’d say in his 78 3/4 ton sq body pickup. Mistakenly drives wrong way down a one way street, I think he was in his early 60’s at the time and stood around 6’4” so not a small guy.

Anyhow, guy in a car who was of a minority background gets upset and starts following granddad then proceeds to go around and drive up on sidewalk blocking his path and stopping him. Guy gets out and comes back to the truck. Climbs in the window like a eh well you get the idea… As guy is coming in window granddad leans over and reaches down to where he kept a couple shop towels along with some wrenches and a 3# sledge on the center trans tunnel hump wrapped up. Grabs the sledge and smacks guy in the head. Cold knocks him out, so granddad puts truck in reverse and proceeds to drive over guys legs as he backs up.

He then speedily drives home and doesn’t tell anyone for several months fearing he killed the guy.

So Dave, not sure about what it does to your head but I’m pretty sure it can result in broken legs………

Dave, I think he flicked his cigarette butt into your truck after noticing your “My other car is a Jetta” bumper sticker.

Glad you chose not to knock his block off.

I’d love to take ownership of that Etta as the J has fallen off, but I sadly can not.  Wife had that before we met and every time I try to sell it I realize the Michelin tires are worth more then the asking price.

I hate that car but currently it keeps my truck clean in the garage :)

This eve I found a new use for the old method of hand polishing cars,  the same boy who carved his name decides to pic a hole into the chair as his older (14yr) brother watched and he pulled out stuffing.  So after a hour or standing in one spot with nose on the wall and listing to him whine I decided I’d give the polish a try.   I walked him out handed him a 4” pad and applied polish to the pad and said when I can’t read your name in my door you can go to bed.  I have shovels a few inches of snow off the driveway while checking on the boy. Low and behold he has made progress with the Adams single step polish. Picture when he is finished.  It’s been about a hour now

Post pictures in other threads, but I scored a flamables cabinet, parts cleaning cabinet and a 9k rotary lift between yesterday and today.

Wallets a little lighter, but I'm happy. Off to the ridge to drop it off tomorrow.

Nate, where's the rest of it? Oh, next picture

Just got a notice here in Ca all youth volunteers need to get fingerprinted now, including scouts. Bout ready to throw the towel in on scouts. Boys are loosing interest too, the events have been taken over by girls and PC. I understand backgrounds, but Kali is out of hand. (not like I haven't been fingerprinted once or twice)

Oh I’m with ya,   I’m not sure he doesn’t do a whole lot. Lots of court dates and urine tests and that kinda stuff.
I told his Forman that eve he had better just keep him away from me and my truck or there will be problems we don’t want to explain to the boss

I'm getting too old for this.

'06 Cummins 24v oil full of coolant, radiator full of oil. Long story short, there's 11 freeze plugs under the valve cover and one corroded through... and my employee is on vacation. All these years I never realized that coolant was under those small plugs.

So, they sell a kit.
11 metric plugs and a 24mm X 1.5 tap for $150 to replace the hammer in style plugs with threaded ones.

I bought some plugs and the wrong tap on Amazon for $50.
Then another $50 for the right tap locally.
Still cheaper!

Well today I went fishing.
On a boat.
Yes I’m still on vacation, and it’s been wonderful seeing 80’s and 90’s instead of the -35 to -40 that has been at home.
Chartered a boat for the day and had a great time.
We did catch a few little ones, but it was a good day fishing.
We’re down near Palya del Carmen and still have a week to relax.

Since I haven’t really been online in two weeks merry belated Christmas to y’all and happy new year.
I just don't want to wind up missing a digit or limb.  I can sometimes get in a hurry to get results.

So my oldest is engaged as of last night. Knowing it was inevitable I’ve been having the son in law to be work a day or two a week in the shop. He’s a firefighter and as such works 48 on & x days off. So it’s been helpful having him around.

Thanks guys, yes Dave he asked permission. Apparently that was one expectation I instilled in the girls per Eric when he asked me and the younger two girls who’s first reaction was texting me to see if he did as well.

Took the wife out for a ride in the desert. Just had a decent storm Friday and there was mud everywhere. Pretty fun but cold and windy.
Little bit of snow dropped as well.

Are you looking to work in these gloves or keep you hands warm?

Little of both. I know some gloves won't stand up to real work, but don't want to take em off for everything either. Might as well have mittens then.

Back in Indiana I had a set of kinkos that had the fingers exposed but a mitten type cover that would fold back and Velcro out of the way when you needed to use fingers. They were waterproof too (not sure if you need that). I used them for driving skid loader among other winter activities.

Edit: just looked for them and doesn’t look like they make them any longer in waterproof version. Couple other places like carhart make some too but they don’t appear waterproof exterior. Most look to be wool type construction. However, kinkos makes several style of mittens and they were really warm.

I don’t generally wear gloves for work besides the basic leather gloves, I do have a nice pair of Burton snowboard gloves that I use for outdoor snow activities like snowmobiling that work great

I do have a pair similar to this that I use on my bike that work really well also

JR,
Yellow chore gloves are hard to beat for price. Trying to hang onto things can be difficult  but they are washable, and you can buy a dozen if the get wet get another pair .

Warm and probably waterproof is much of this. I have some older cabelas hunting gloves I sed this weekend, but they didn't quite work out. I had some other really thick ones my son used. Where great for him but they wore a hole with moving a couple straps around.

I have used these gloves every winter for 20 or more years. I like the elastic cuff because it keeps snow out. At one time we have 3,000 head of hogs We made our own feed. I stood outside 3 days a week in all weather conditions. Rain, snow, sleet, and negative temps. I've been out fixing cattle waterers in -20 during an ice storm. Once the inside got worn out some, I wore a glove liner.  These gloves never failed me. They can be hard to break in. The first week of wear it's hard to hold on to things. You might hate them the first time you wear them but once you get them broke in, I really like them, and they stay pretty water resistant.
