Never been a major source of knowledge but my brother in law is looking to offload his low mileage glock 22 Asked if I wanted it for $400

He said he hasn’t been through much. Honestly guns aren’t his thing. He hunts rocks and so forth
I seen a few on Utah gun exchange for 350.

Probably not a bad deal for a gun you know history on.

Kinda leaning towards it. Helps him out so he can get a pickup going

Looks like a 3. Grip texture isn't right for a 4.
Price is fair, you know the guy, I'd say buy it. All else fails you can always sell it later on down the line.
-
I’d buy it. Good gen 3

I've helped teach ladies how to shoot and some had problems some didn't, it's all in how they are taught and how they handle recoil.
-
Only thing I can Add is when we were testing pistols, glock lost because of her small hands, she didn’t like the fit. But I’d buy it if i was in your situation.

This ^^^^^
Until I bought a G43 & she won’t give it back now!
-
I still have my Springfield xdm 40 and I like it. But want something else to leave in the second vehicle or the home. She doesn’t shoot much :( but if need be you know. I think the price is right, history is right, I have wanted a Glock to put some gee wiz fun’s things on. Why not? Like you said sell it later if need be.
I’ll g check it out in person and see. Thanks gentlemen

Counting pins I make it a Gen 3 at best. No holster rash, looks unused. $400 is top dollar but a fair price.

Biggest issue with Glock is limp wristing on the part of the shooter. If your wrist isn't locked, it'll cause a feed malfunction. As long as you employ a proper grip, and don't try to be a Hollywood gangsta, you should have no worries.
I had a G23 for a number of years, and it was a good pistol. The only reason I got rid of it was to pay off an AR15 I had on lay-away when I lost a job years ago. Money paid towards the AR was not refundable, and I already had a pistol (1911).
-
So I don’t fully understand the Glock line up. G22-40somthin I think I seen why looking. What’s the number associated with it mean?
Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
-
Dave, its the model number. Which dictates caliber and size (round capacity and barrel length, newer models may also dictate single stack magazine over double stack).
-
It started with the Model 17. The 17th patent for Gaston Glock
There is usually a sub compact, compact and full size versions. Some are available in long slide tactical versions like the 34
26,19,17,34 are 9mm double stack mag
27,23,22 are .40 double stack. (You can swap barrels and mags and shoot 9mm)
36,30,21 are .45
20 is 10mm ( can swap 45 mag and barrel and shoot 45 too)
That’s off the top of my head. There are a few more like the newer 42 and 43 being 380 and single stack 9mm
Most of the parts were interchangeable before the later generations. One more reason I have all genIII stuff.

Charles, I understand and have gone through all of the ones I own aside from my G35
Thought it might be a good idea to learn something from a course rather than a book for once too. I’m also considering several 43’s in 80 to complete for girls.

Should I let out some more line. That was pretty weak...I know you can do better, history shows that.
I guess a Glock is alright, if you never had legos as a child. ;)
-
Ken, not sure what the whole legos comment is about as I’ve handled quite a few customized 1911’s. None that I actually wanted to own but you get the idea.... :beercheers:
-
Back to the old "plastic vs a real pistol". I do have to say however I have never owned a Glock or fired one.
-
I was upset when springfielde was forced to change their outer design....it fit my big paw really well.....
-
I saw the bait Ken and flicked the lure with my tail and swam away....
1911's are like a carbureted engine. You can fiddle with them for hours tuning them to get them to do what you can get a fuel injected car to do it 10 minutes. Lots of fun if you like to piddle but if you want something that goes bang everytime.......
Easy read: Glock, America's Gun. Helps provide some context on how glock came from nowhere to become the weapon that all the others copied.
Its like Occam's Razor for pistols. 34 parts versus 44 parts
-
America's gun? I think the 1911 had first dibs on that one buddy. Similar to the ma deuce... still in production for a reason.
Shawn, what Bob said.
I can't really talk crap anymore since buying that Walther a few months back. I just have to remember to keep it out of the sun... don't want the UVs to keep it from running properly, or sticking to the holster on a warm day.haha

You’ll find them by searching 9mm conversion barrels. They basically a bull barrel where the outside diameter meets specs for the .40 slide but they’re chambered in 9mm. Mags for the Glock 17 are the ones you’ll need to run with the conversion barrel. The only problem I remember with the model 22 is that some people experienced failures after attaching a light to them. Some had it, some didn’t. The only way to tell is to hang a light on it and shoot it. My issued 22 didn’t have any trouble with a light but some others did. $400 is fair given the situation.

Tate, I have a local ffl who wheels an Fj and complains about maintenance a lot tell me the sigs are more accurate and just a nicer piece of hardware like driving a Cadillac...
-
All I know about Sigs is that they are as heavy as a brick. I can beat someone to death with it when I run out of ammo.
Also, when I got a wild hair and completely ( and I mean completely) disassembled one down to the last spring, it was a 3 hour project to put it back together. But it was VERY clean.....

Tate if Boris was right, he'd have a 50AE. That thing is a club

Have you shot one of those Charles?

Oh yeah. Fun but not as bad of recoil as the 454 casul or the s&w 460

Charles,
Can we get a side by side comparison of the three :) thanks, that would be great! However I’m not in bear country enough to warrant any of them.

.50AE is about the same as .45ACp, recoil-wise.

That is true, but the S&W 681 aint no feather, lol!

Well without me saying buy that. The wife called her brother and arranged a pickup of the new to me/Glock. She can barely release the slide with her thumb. It’s a tit bit large for even my hand.
I’ll give it a good run through and put a few rounds down the range at the local shooting store and go from there. Brother in law said he adjusted the site for how he shoots lol. I’ll take a picture in a min

My guess is that he was probably anticipating recoil and pushing shots to the left. Those factory sights are plastic and most consider them temporary anyway. Playing devils advocate to my own point, I put almost 10k rounds through my first model 17 and it still has the plastics sights in it.
I’m a fan of using the slide stop/catch to release the slide. The Vickers extended stop is a worthwhile upgrade if you go that route.

Thinking the good reason was his shooting style or handicap.
Speaking of which Ken isn’t that what they do when they turn em sideways gansta to shoot?

Burris...OK I guess for the money
Not mil grade
Bling crowd stuff
Never saw one downrange
You see Triticon, Red Dot, Eotech on 99% of combat guns when using reflex type sights, at least in my old crowd which was made up of Rangers, SF, Recon, MARSA, Seals, SWC, SOAR, CCT, HRT, ATF and guys like that.
I took that as a lesson. They never argues with my choice for helicopters, I didn't question their choice for guns and gun hardware.
But
I'd ask Bobby directly and get a good answer...
-
I like irons on a handgun but if I were going the red dot route I’d save a little longer and go with something like this.

If you want an RMR (and I use that term to cover all RDS options) then save up and send the slide off to get milled out for that optic. As previously posted the Trijicon RMR is pretty much the standard, but Leupold Delta point pro is a very valid option. I've seen and used people's pistols that had the Vortex versions of the rmr mounted and it was very usable.
Here's my opinion, stick with the stock plastic sight for a bit and see what you think. If you want to upgrade to an rds on it, then save up for the suppressor height sights, then save up for the optic you want to mount, then finally ship it off to get milled out by a competent operation. Trident Defense in Illinois or Jaegerwerks in Michigan are 2 that come to mind quickly off the top of my head. Sad part is once you get it milled you'll generally need to choose a new color to get the slide cerakoted to a new color or camo pattern if you wish.
Since I didn't attach a link before:
Trident defense has a LEO cut which I pasted below. You have to buy the suppressor sights and RMR separately or through them which kicks the price but but still a good package.

Eh, I've seen bad results with paint on lume, but also seen great results all in the person doing it I suppose. But if it were me I'd just swap the sights and be done with it.

I read the description of the part, so the 20 pounds spring would directly affect the slide making it harder to manipulate getting a lighter spring rate would make it easier, what would the downsides be? Less shock being soaked up from the spring?

Supposed to help with recoil and follow up shots. I never really saw the need to swap out springs for heavier or lighter unless you're a competition shooter try to tweak some time off or firing hundreds (thousands) of rounds on a frequent basis.
-
Unless you are handloading and loading hot, I would not mess with those
Recoil springs match the recoil based on power of the load. If you are running hot, you need a heavier spring.
E.g. On my glock 20 10mm, I have a KKM barrel and run 200gn hornady XTP and generate 1350 FPS. I have a 23lb spring installed and it still slings brass 20 ft.
Too soft a spring for the load you bash up the frame from too much recoil.
If you have a heavy spring and too light a load,it will FTF
Tungsten guide rod is supposed to give you more weight to keep the muzzle down.
Waste of money IMO
Get a Ghost Rocket trigger disconnect, an extended mag release, night sights and then practice, a lot..

I agree with this.

Carried the 22 for over 20 years, all I used were night sights (mepro light). 1/2 the price of trijicon. That and a extended slide release.
I own it now, couldn't tell you how many rounds went through it and still do. Always used the release unless doing drills.
Playing with lights on it now (olight), recharge magnetic base USB. Really small for a good light.
