I'd hate to try to interdict this border region

So
1st, that was a digital "wish this system worked like that" video.
2nd - those phalanx are worthless without their radar!
3rd - that video was stuck on repeat
4th - those systems take roughly 1-2hours to reload
5th - that systems is purely a defensive system against incoming indirect fire
6th - i will stop now because... :lipsrsealed:

they have gotten a lot better in the last few years.

I remember when they built that stupid hill on BIAPand put that one up there.  that thing did pretty good and was pretty active at night.....considering that it was originally designed for a navy ship.

Pretty cool system. My former deputy did a lot of phalanx installations and software updates in Iraq 2009-2010. I remember they started taking the navy systems and ground mounting them in Iraq, maybe late 2005?

Around late 2005, while on an operation I was thinking about why they hadn't figured out how to put a Phalanx on the bases to curb the indirect fire. Then later on I heard they were going to. Random thoughts I had while looking out the NODs.

So, the Phanax no doubt could shoot down incoming rockets, no problem
But
What about those 3,000 chunks of iron that it launched into the air??? Don't they fall back to earth at some point?

The reason I say this is because one night in Baghdad, also in late 2005, for no particular reason the air defense batteries opened up sending all kinds of ordnance into the lower atmosphere. We were standing on the ramp on LZ Washington enjoying the show when the crap started to fall around the area. Then we were scrambling for a nearby bunker. One chunk of something came through the roof of a hut near us and hit a desk and knocked the corner of it off. I remember because it was a Thomasville desk, high dollar, and I was scheming an how to get it onto a buddies C130 for a ride back to the land that built it.

It's not stealing... Just a tactical relocation for defense purposes...or something like that...
At least I didn't take like five MD-500 helicopters like someone I know did...Just sayin...

Don, those rounds just fall among the civilian populace. Nobody notices, since it blends in seamlessly with all the celebratory rounds returning to terra firma. LOL!
