I almost hate to weigh in here

So this is just the opinion of some bonehead, nothing more

It seems to be to be sneaky and dishonest to do something like stealing a dog and killing it or releasing it somewhere else.

I could be way wrong here, but my core tells me the straight up man way of doing things is best, even if it hurts or hurts people's feelings

I'd go to the owner and tell him the dog is dangerous, present him with the facts, the dog has bitten X number of people, and you can't live with the danger it presents. Let him know it is time to do something or you will be forced to.

That way when the dog comes up missing after the next incidient, and he asks you if you killed the dog, you can look him in the eye and say yes.

So this happened in my life. When at Ft. Campbell, I worked out every day. If I was at home on any day, I'd go for a 4 mile run to start the day off. My neighbors dogs would come after me. I went to him and told him he needed to control them. I told him that after some time, if he didn't do something, I'd shoot the things.

Well, it came to that. They came after me and I dropped one on the spot with my 1911, and shot the other one while he was running away. That dog died on their porch. Later that day, the neighbor came knocking on my door. He asked me straight up if I shot his dogs. I said yes, I did. He asked my why, and I told him. He was upset, but said, "Well, I guess you told me you were going to do something, and I can see that you mean what you say."

After that the relationship healed with time.

So again, I am no oracle of wisdom or anything, but my gut says being straight up is the way to roll.

I hope this never happens again but I know it will. When it happens again. I will take the child to the hospital. They will alert the authorities. Then It will be out of my hands.

This is where we are.  I cant even it bring it up. He gets all mad. He sees it as the kids fault. The dog did nothing wrong. They just got too close to her. After his stroke his mind did not rewire right. We are just stuck. If we touch that dog I'm afraid he will kick us out. Then everything we worked for is for not. On the other hand I have to hope my kid or my niece or anyone else wont get bit. The dog has arthritis. We did get him to take her to the vet and get her some meds for that. Her demeanor has changed since. I know how that works though. He will quit taking his own meds sometimes just because he thinks he don't need them. Will he do that with the dog too?

Jon, if I remember correctly you guys were getting back into cattle on the farm?  Back when I was working on the farm you would occasionally have a calf that would get pneumonia.  We had some medication we could give that would normally clear it up pretty quick.  If we didn't catch it in time or if it was real bad and we couldn't get it to clear up a double dose would put them to sleep and they just didn't wake up.  It was pretty peaceful/ humane compared to some of the methods I have seen/ used to put down a sick animal on the farm.

Humane is the best, for both the above picture and the dog.

He should get 2-3 more pics, should be great. They won't like it.

I have 1/16th Montana Blackfoot lineage. enough to claim tribal rights if I chose to. I don't, because I'm not a darn native, I'm just some white guy who's also Welsh/Scotch/Irish/French/Russian, and I only claim to be an AMERICAN. She's a 1/4 of my worth and trying to make something out of it? There's a reason POTUS mocks you... (insert Red Foreman catch phrase here)

I think I'm 1/1024th grease...WTR to be exact.

Who knows what WTR is?

Since Shawn asked and I didn't want to clutter up Dave's thread anymore than we already had, I got my results from Blackstone back and it would appear that Jiffy Lube is off the hook, one way or another. Everything is consistent with them having put in 5w30 albeit cheap stuff, but not waste oil. (that is unless they were just covering their tracks and changed the oil again before sending Cyndie down the road to their "authorized mechanic." Either way, 6 in one hand 1/2 doz in the other scenario, so I'm going to do a hot flush, run some seafoam and ATF through it, dump new flush mixture in as I'm draining old out, and cycle it once again w/ new fresh oil, filters along the way etc. if it works, I'm back in business and sludge was my culprit all along, if not, I'll probably drop a good used long block in there rather than rebuild the top end of a 193k motor and oil pump... I'll keep y'all updated but for now it's just depressing.

He is not going to let them in. In any event it is months away with a hurricane or two before they get near.

So the Denali is in the shop finally, and I get an opportunity to get a good look at things. Bottom end looks really good. pulled crankshaft bearing caps, even the thrust bearing and it's all looking really good, so the tech and I settle on the oil pump, which was in fact mangled at the top. put her all back together and she's only building 15 PSI and lifter noise is pretty bad. he's suspecting camshaft bearings and wear in the journals with all the iron that was in the pan. must have been dropping oil pressure with the wife driving and not noticing things since I never drive it. now it looks like i'm buying a used motor... feel kinda sick right now.

You could drive it till it goes pop. You'd be surprised how long it will last with 15psi. I have a company vehicle running around with 8, and 0 at idle...spun cam bearing.  They just don't want to spend the money.  Only thing that would take it out quicker is if the roller lifters aren't rolling anymore.

Ouch Tate... Hope you find that good deal.

I have a bother to relay. I don't deal with a lot of contractors since I have done most of it myself in the past so this is a new one. It takes me quite a while to save up $9k so when I hire out I would like to think I got my money's worth.

I recently contracted out the insulating and sheet rocking of my 48' X 30' garage. Right at $9K. I had other quotes and they were right around that. The good is that they showed up when they said they would. Got it done in the time frame they said. Crew was nice to my wife and basically did the minimum of what they said they would do.

The bother is things like they show up in 3 sedan with basically no tools between them. The sheetrock crew had to use tools out of my toolbox so they could take down the garage door opener brackets to slide the sheet rock in. We invited them in the house to use our restroom if they needed it. They elected to piss on the side driveway in the snow and ice so it is a popsicle treat for my dog.. grrr dumb dog. They made a total mess both inside and out. Outside they left all of the sheet rock scrapes and straping among all kinds of trash, nails and screws. We have tires on our vehicles. Inside I think they dropped more screws than they used in the sheet rock. Trash everywhere. When they showed up at 7am and waited for the sheet rock to be delivered the foreman asks me if I want to help him out so I say yes. He say's can you take all of the face plates off for us? I say ok.. then he proceeds to tell me they ( crew of 3) are going to go wait in the warm car until the sheet rock arrives. It didn't arrive until 8am. So they sat out there for an hour while I took all of the face plates off. Which in the end I am glad I did because I missed a high one for the TV and when they took it off with my crew driver from my tool boxes they just dropped on the floor and the screw is never to be found again.

They ran out of plastic for the ceiling and wanted me to run to Home Depot to get that and some 2"x4"'s for backer boards on the one end. I had the boards but told him to call the owner and have him bring the plastic.

When they undid the lights they lost the screws to some of those and left them hanging. Telling me "you don't want me to be your electrician!". So I wired all of the lights back in when they were done.

So they get all done and do an ok job. My garage is 2 inches out of square corner to corner so there are some challenges. They had piled up a pretty big pile of sheet rock cut off scraps in the one bay. Some pretty large sheets also.

I don't know why but I assumed they would put all of the plates back on, wire the lights back up like they found them, take all of the construction trash with them, and clean up after themselves. They didn't do any of that.

When my wife ask the owner about the trash and construction material he said they don't haul it away but could bring a trailer and haul it away for $200.00. No.

When my wife called him to settle up with the second half of payment he doesn't ask how it went or was she happy. Took the number and said thanks and that was it.

So we will have a small roll off delivered and clean up everything and plus take the opportunity get rid of a bunch of other non flammable stuff.

So for $9k... do you get what you pay for.. I guess I would / have run the crew differently.

That’s the reason why I hate to pay people to do anything.  Some crews are better than others. The Sheetrock guy I hired only does the taping and floating and he subs out the rock.

The expectation, unless you state otherwise when they are providing the estimate is that all they have to do is walk in and cut and place rock and then float and tape.  Waste and trash is your responsibility. They should have told you when you got the estimate that you had to have all the stuff off the walls and ceiling before they got there.

I backed my trailer near the front door as I had them at least throw all their scraps in the trailer which made it easy for me to dump it.

Moral of the story is don’t assume anything and be specific in your contract.  Mine left a lot of mud dropped and smeared on the sub floor which I wish I had covered because I had to sand it off. They also spattered it all in my roughed in shower which I had to clean off to get prepped for tile.

At least they masked the windows with plastic....

So in the end, did they do a good job with the rock and tape? Smooth and decent?

unfortunately the devil is in the details as they say....

Charles is correct, if its a new crew or sub etc it needs to be a very in depth contract. Once you have things decided between the two of you the jobs get easier for seconds and thirds and on and on. Sometimes you get lucky and hire professionals but that is not the norm.

You could drive it till it goes pop. You'd be surprised how long it will last with 15psi. I have a company vehicle running around with 8, and 0 at idle...spun cam bearing.  They just don't want to spend the money.  Only thing that would take it out quicker is if the roller lifters aren't rolling anymore.

it's got some lifter noise, I have to stop by and listen to it today and make a decision. $2200 for a 6.0L w/ 60k on it, no core no tax, delivered is my best offer on a replacement so far. what would you do to prolong it if you decided to just drive it Ken? My wife basically runs back and forth to dance the grocery store with it. throw some 10w40 at it?

9K is a lot, no matter what. Did they do a fair job though?

I can see not hauling the trash away. But no tools or doing the little things is not a complete job. I could see odd tool or other little thing but it sounded like, " I want them done and out"!

Tate, 2200 is OK for a 6ltr, but not great. I paid 2k for a 5.3/trans and ecm few years ago when they were not as easy to get.

Have you checked with your insurance and giving them the story? They may cover it then go after jiffy lube, was it?

As A PM for a construction company, I can tell you the devil is in the details.  I have to really pay attention to scope of work to ensure that I don't have gaps and also to the exclusions like not removing debris or surface prep ect.  It is unusual to find a sub that goes above the bare minimum anymore.  And the ones that do are usually not the lowest bidder which is what the office folks are worried about.

Tate, that price is ridiculous!
Should be half that or less
I wouldn't put any trust in that motor, Just start pulling it.
Now I am confused as to the very high price of a motor up there. They really are less than half that cost around here. Maybe we should find one here and have it shipped to you. I'm guessing $350-$400 shipping???
