Firearms / Kydex holsters.
« on: September 29, 2016, 11:51:05 PM »
So this is my new hobby/business.  I talked the wife into letting me invest a little money into a holster making business and these are some of what I've created.    I figured if I didn't sell one at the very least I could get holsters for every gun I have for pennies.  Not to mention mag carriers and all sorts of other cool stuff.   I got a table at a gun show about a month ago and basically showed off a few to see if it was a viable option to make some extra money.    The show went well enough that I got a green light to get some more material and pursue it further.

Here's what I've done so far.

I started out making these belt slide type units.   They hug the body and conceal really well for an OWB type.

At the show I realized I needed more of a standard IWB holster that everyone makes.  That's what I got asked for the most so I whipped these up.

Glock 19

I made some more for my Shield and XDm but they look the same as the Glock.

Also made some adjustable retention IWB mag carriers.

I've got an order of coyote brown kydex coming in this weekend so I'll be fleshing out some other ideas I have.

Hide Site / Retaining wall construction.
« on: March 29, 2016, 03:36:33 PM »
If any of you have ever been to Pittsburgh you know that none of it is flat.  We have about a 1/2 acre of land but it drops off about 6' over 30' off of our parking area then the slope gradually lessens down to almost flat at the back of the property.

I am getting quotes to build a retaining wall to expand our parking area this summer and to have a place for a future garage.

Has anyone built a wall this high?   The back of the wall will be close to 6' high.  If it was a foot or two I might try to build it myself but that high I know I'm going to have to have a professional do it.   Can't have it fail with two big diesel trucks sitting on it.  Or a building in the future.

Short video of the area.

Tech/Electronics / GPS apps
« on: March 08, 2016, 08:00:51 PM »
So hopefully I'll be going back to work soon and I told myself I was going to buy myself a new GPS system.  I have a 7" tablet that I never use and thought about re purposing it into a stand alone GPS.

Well In my research I came across some apps that people were talking about.  Does anyone use any apps for this purpose?

Firearms / AR rail decision.
« on: March 04, 2016, 02:37:11 PM »
So my main #1 AR is this Colt 6720R.

The only thing I don't like about it is the rail is heavy and defeats the purpose of the weight savings on the rest of the gun.  It comes factory with a pencil barrel and I've been trying to keep the weight down with the Aimpoint T1.  The tan rifle in this pic is an 80% lower I built up from scratch with this sweet Odin works key mod rail.  Which no kidding is close to a half pound lighter

I've been thinking about swapping rails but I will have to dismantle the Colt, pull the gas block and tube, flash hider off, barrel nut, etc to do it.

I don't want to mess up the reliability of the gun and I've never taken off a pinned gas block before.

Any advice. Can you re use the pins when you take them out of the block?

Should I just leave it alone?  When I built the tan gun I had it all cerakoted the flat dark earth color and I realize the colors will not match but I usually get bored and end up painting my guns anyway.  But the tan rifle will never look the same if I take the rail off.
And it looks good right now lol.

Laid off right now so buying a new rail is not in the cards at the moment.

Pretty interesting and scary.

What I'm struggling with though is how does this continue after the fall of the Soviet Union?  Is it that good of a process that once it's set in place it keeps propagating?

Would like to hear people's thoughts.

General Maintenance, How to/DIY projects / Welding exhaust piping.
« on: February 02, 2016, 02:59:02 PM »
I'm about to start the exhaust for the Zombie ford and as I've said in the past I'm no welder.  I have welded on some trailers in the past and it seems if it's thicker steel I just set my welder on kill and they turn out fairly well.

The thin exhaust tubing may present a challenge for me.  I have a Hobart Handler 140 wire feed but no regulator so I will have to do it with flux core wire.

Any tips? Or things I need to watch out for?

Shops Garages and Barns / New workshop
« on: January 12, 2016, 10:22:10 AM »
Well it's a trailer.  So I guess I could have posted in the trailer forum but it's for tools and storage so it kind of belongs here.   Anyhow I have a 16' enclosed trailer I bought several years back and it's been used for storage at my in laws.   Well we just moved into a new house that doesn't have a garage so I needed a place to store my tools and things that don't belong in the house.

I hauled it up to MI while I was spending time with my dad over the holidays to bring back my snow blower and a few other things and since my dad is doing really well with his cancer we decided to build a workbench in it to mount my mini mill and drill press and also give me a little space to work on things.   I also built a stand for my tool chest so I'm not working out of a couple small tool boxes. Didn't take any progress pics but here's the finished project.

It's of course filled up with a snow blower and my riding lawn mower but I'm happy with it.

Food Preparation and Cooking Techniques / Smoking meat.
« on: November 26, 2015, 08:03:24 PM »
So I just read an article about a guy building a backyard smoke house.   I thought we could open a discussion about smoking meat.  Not smoking for a BBQ but smoking for longer term storage.   I've been thinking a lot lately about grid down scenarios (happens when I'm laid off with too much time on my hands). I'm probably going to buy some hard copy books on preservation but figured I'd see what people thought here.

In the article the guy built an outhouse looking building with a firebox a few feet away from the main structure.  He ran the chimney to structure so there would be very little heat other than the smoke affecting the meat.

How is this for longer term storage. Not talking years but you could smoke a deer and have it last at least a few weeks I would think.

D.O.T. / Any Marketing people in here?
« on: October 02, 2015, 07:27:14 AM »
I figured I would ask here to get some other ideas from my normal channels.

I built an app with my friend from high school.  He came up with the idea and at the time I had the money to finance it.   We met with an app company In Austin 2.5 years ago and it was originally supposed to take 6 months to build.  2.5 years later we are finally releasing it.   It's out in Google Play and it's being reviewed by the App Store as I type this and should be available on iPhone within a week to ten days.

The premise of the app is social networking.  It's not like anything out there right now and I still feel that it is an amazing concept.

The name of the app is Kukay.  That is an ancient Mayan word for firefly.

It basically lets you avoid the downfalls of meeting people in public places. It basically allows you to say hi to someone in the venue anonymously.  Then they anonymously respond and if you happen to choose each other it opens up a dialogue box and you can text with that person through the app.

How it works is you check in to a location.  After you are checked in you can see all the other users that are checked in to that venue.   If you see someone you are interested in you can send them a "flash".  They then receive a notification  that someone in the venue is interested in them.  They then go through the same process.  They look who is checked into the venue and go down and start sending flashes to people they might be interested in.  This sends flashes to all the people they are in to.  If they happen to pick the user that sent them the flash then you make a connection and options for conversations pop up.

These conversations and flashes disappear after you leave the venue.  So it's all temporary unless you want to save the person

If you meet someone you like but you aren't sure if you want to give them your actual number you can save them to the "jar"  this allows the connection to stay active you leave the venue.  So you can put someone in your jar and be able to text with them through our app as long as they are in your jar.  Then if they get crazy or you just don't want to continue all you have to do is remove them from the jar and they disappear.

It sounds complicated but it's really not.

We also have a map

This allows you to see the number of users checked in to various venues around you.  So you can see where the odds are better to meet someone.

So it's in its infancy and we are now needing to get users.   This is worthless unless a bunch of people in the venue are using the app.

We have a press release we are going to send out to various places when he iPhone version comes out but figured I'd asking anyone had any interesting ideas.

Powerplant, Driveline, and Braking / Head gasket and head surfacing
« on: October 01, 2015, 09:13:47 AM »
I wanted to start a new thread on this topic because it is more of a specific question.

I pulled the head off my 6BT in preparation for building the engine up but I've scaled back my plans a bit.  I was going to O-ring it but from a cost and necessity stand point that doesn't make sense for me right now.   Since I have the head at the machine shop and they say it's .006 off I'm going to have them deck it while it's there.

Has anyone had a diesel head decked?   I'm wondering if I have them take off the .006" to make it flat what size head gasket should I get? They make Cummins gaskets in a +.010 and a +.020 size.  Does that mean I should have them take off .010"?  Or should I have them take off .006" to make it flat and then use a .010"?   Do I need to worry about the valves beeing closer to the combustion chamber chambers?

D.O.T. / Chrysler is buying my trucks back.
« on: September 19, 2015, 10:01:56 AM »
So some of you know about the recall on certain Dodge trucks.  I got my letter in the mail stating that they are buying my trucks back.  I have a 2012 Ram 2500 and a 2012 Ram 4500.  According to the letter I have the option of getting it fixed for free or them buying it back at "fair market value". They have a link to see what the value is approximately and it's a little low but with the financial bind I've been in I'm pretty sure I'm going to take them up on the offer.

I owe money on the 4500 so that will eliminate my $900/mo payment on it and the 2500 is paid for so I will come out with a decent chunk of change in my pocket. The Ford will be my only truck at that point though.  So I will have to pull my 14k pound fifth wheel with the Ford. Unless I decide to get a new one but I really don't want to get out of debt then go right back in.

Lots of things to think about but overall.  It's a darn good day.

Tech/Electronics / Vehicle based solar generator
« on: September 09, 2015, 01:36:21 PM »
So I've had the idea of doing something along the lines of what Square D has with an auxiliary battery and solar panels.  I'm thinking about taking it to another level though and my reasoning is simple.  My RV has both 12 volt and 110 volt systems, as does all other RVs. I was thinking about a solar system for the RV to be able to run the 12 volt systems off grid continuously.  This would give me lights and as long as I had propane my furnace.  But then I got thinking about the solar generators people advertise which is essentially a battery bank on a dolly with a solar panel.

Then I got thinking why not incorporate that into the ford.  When I'm sitting next to the camper I can hook it up to the RV battery to charge it either with the panel or with the engine.  So I'm thinking of putting two batteries in the tool box run a solar charge controller and put a 100w panel on the future roof rack.  This would also allow me to run an ARB 12 volt fridge in the truck indefinitely. In a grid down scenario having a portable fridge/freezer would be worth it's weight in gold. I'm dropping super hard hints to my girl that's what I want for Christmas and if I don't get one then I will buy one next year anyway.

I have run into some questions though.

My batteries in the ford are about 1.5 years old. I know when you replace the batteries in the truck you should replace both at the same time  if I add two identical batteries would I need to replace the two in the truck as well?  So they are all the same age?  I plan on running a solenoid to charge the back battery bank from the engine when the ignition is on.   If I should replace all 4 then I wonder if I should skip hooking them to the truck batteries and run them strictly off solar.  I'd rather hook them up so I can have a redundant system for charging but if I didn't hook them up I could use golf cart batteries or some strictly solar batteries.

I think this would be better than a dedicated solar system for the camper because if I ever had to ditch the camper I would have the capability to charge all my small electronics and run the fridge for years without grid power. Or at least until the batteries go out.

Thoughts?

General Maintenance, How to/DIY projects / Use for old engine.
« on: August 21, 2015, 11:07:28 AM »
So I'm sitting here thinking about what to do with the IDI after I swap the 12 valve into my truck.  The hit and miss engine thread got me thinking.

What would be a good way to repurpose the engine?  I know I can sell it for 500-1000 but is there something I could do with it that would be more worthwhile?   without the tranny it would be one speed of course. I looked up some generator heads and a 15kw head only needs 18-25hp to run. The idi is rated at I think 190 so that's a bit overkill.  Any other ideas?

Tires, Wheels, and Suspension / Nitto Terra Grappler mini review.
« on: August 13, 2015, 01:42:13 PM »
Well I had these tires put on my Dodge about 5000 miles ago.  Size is 305-55-20. They were about the cheapest tire I could find at the local Discount Tire that was in stock. I was in a bind because I had a deadline to meet for my new job and had to drive the 1500 miles pulling my camper from San Antonio to Ohio.  The tires I had were pretty worn and I didn't want to risk the drive on bad tires and jeopardize my new job by not making it to my first day on time.

I've read many reviews on these tires and all seem to be decent so I figured I would be ok.

As some of you have seen my work takes me off road on a daily basis.  Mostly loose dirt and small loose rocks the size of your head on down.   I'm starting to think that the off roading I do is a little more than your typical tire reviewer.  I am not impressed with these tires whatsoever.  They do ok in dry dirt but if it's a little bit muddy they cake up and just spin.  I'm not expecting mud tire performance from these. But I have to  put it in 4wd just to get back into the highway from a slightly slimy road entrance.  Now some of the hills I climb require 4wd and when it's in 4x4 They do ok but I've had tires in the past that would go places in 2wd that these require 4wd.  I had falken high country ATs before these and I was much happier with their performance.   They also are starting to lose some chunks on the rear.  I've been at this job long enough to know the large rock we use for road approaches and the blasted rock that comes out of the ditch is hard on tires. But to see it after only 3000 miles or so of on and off road is a little to much.   They are quiet on the street and handle pretty good on road so I figure I should throw that out there.

Just wanted to throw this out into our world so maybe someone could use the info.  For dirt roads and mostly highway use they at fine.  I just need a little bit more performance than what these provide.

Other Weapons / Bows and arrows.
« on: August 06, 2015, 05:00:51 PM »
Been thinking about buying one for years now and never have. Thinking this might be the time to remedy that.  I want to deer hunt this year to put some meat in the in laws freezer and I have a hard time with the idea of deer hunting with a rifle. It's just not fair. With a bow I would have to actually be a hunter which, although cool, is not the main reason I'm wanting to go, cheap meat is why I want to go.

That being said. Any advice?  What to look for etc. I don't really want to spend as much as a rifle on a bow.   A bow is actually something I can practice at my camper.  Saw a guy doing that the other night.

Cooking equipment / Camp stove
« on: August 04, 2015, 11:28:41 AM »
I'm looking at getting a camp stove to haul around with me at work to have a hot lunch every now and then.

I thought about a tabletop grill but it seems like an actual camp stove with a couple burners would be a better investment.   Would be nice to be able to use a frying pan on it for eggs or what not.  And if I wanted to grill something a cast iron griddle could be used.

Should I just get one of the colemans at Wally World or does anyone have any experiences they'd like to share?

D.O.T. / In this thread we post good music.
« on: July 28, 2015, 06:53:53 AM »
So we don't have a music thread that I've seen.  What are you guys listening to or what are some of your favorite songs, bands, albums, or concert stories?

Since I moved to TX I've been heavy into the red dirt/ Texas country scene.

One of my favorites

http://youtu.be/Gj7Zft8aiRc

Great song but I don't like how hey ended the video.

How do we imbed a video?

21
The Zombie Ford has bench seats front and rear.  The front bench is great for a regular cab truck or for a country music song where your girl can slide on over.  But for me it's annoying. I can't reach into the back to get things, I lose all the storage I could have in a console, and my girl doesn't listen to country.

I scored some bronco bucket seat brackets off eBay and a couple explorer seats off Craigslist and I'm going to put them in the truck.   The seats are dirty but pretty good condition except for the foam in the left butt cheek area on the drivers side.  It's wore down and tore.  I thought about putting the passenger side on the drivers side but then the recline handle would be in the wrong place.   I can live with it but just figured I'd see if anyone has ever done such a thing.  I see replacement seat foam on eBay for some seats.  Just don't know if it's worth it.  I only have $50 in the pair of seats so I could spend a little money on them.  Or I can find a better seat sometime down the road.

22
Although painting the Ford is fairly low on my list of things to do right now I'm still thinking ahead about ideas.  Part of me wants to camo it out.  When I was in TX I was looking at a desert camo style or possibly an Atacs style.  Being up north now I would probably be leaning more towards s style with more green in it. Possibly the jungle Atacs version.

My girl is suggesting a solid flat color it but she always says it's my truck do what I want.  And she really means that. It is up to me for the final call. And she won't be riding in it very often.

There are some, for lack of a better term, security issues with it.  You will stand out on the highway. It will stand out in a bug out situation and possibly advertise that I may be a juicier target than the Prius up the road. But that could go the other way also and keep peeps from messing with you.

I'm a redneck and I think camo trucks are cool. Curious to hear you guys thoughts.

Faith Discussion / Hard to have faith sometimes.
« on: July 22, 2015, 02:14:52 PM »
So my father was diagnosed 11 months ago with cancer.   Stage 4 in his lungs and his bones.   They intially said without treatment he only had around 3 months left.   This all came as a massive shock because up until then he was fine.  He had hurt his back dragging a log out of the yard and he couldn't get rid of the pain from that.  Went in had an MRI and they found a spot on his lung. Further tests found it all over.

They started him on radiation and chemo immediately. At first it all seemed to be helping he felt better after the radiation.  It relieved  some of the pain.  Lately though he's on a downhill slide it seems like.  He got an infection in his lung which put him in the hospital for a week.  Now it's a week of chemo every three weeks.

It really pisses me off that all the money that is spent in cancer research and we are still using something as archaic and barbaric as chemo therapy.   I know that I'm naive to think this way but he was perfectly fine until the chemo set in.   sometimes I think the chemo is doing more harm than good.  Especially if he has to keep this regimen up until he inevitably passes on.  I had an aunt go through this almost identical scenario and she just got to the point where she gave up. Was tired of fighting it and the constant sickness.

I know most people in this country and maybe most people on this forum don't like to hear it but cannabis has been shown to work wonders for cancer patients.  Studies are showing that the oil is effective in attacking cancer cells and the "side effects" are beneficial too. Munchies, pain killer etc.  The problem is the stigma surrounding it.  For years it has been beaten into everyone's head about being a doper or a pot head and now my dads generation is dropping left and right from cancer and a possible miracle cure for the disease is tied up with bureaucratic red tape.

But it's not just that treatment that's being stifled by the big pharmacuetical companies and the government.  There's all sorts of treatments that are made to jump through years of hoops to even get through to the point of human trials and for most patients that's just to long to wait

There's the Kansius research that was started by a guy in Erie PA that uses nano gold particles and sound waves to attack the cancer cells and leaves healthy tissue alone.  That gentlemen died, of cancer, and his research was picked up by Baylor.  Now it's going to human trials but they will be in Italy in 2016.

Greed is the worst of all sins as far as I'm concerned.  Greed is what's tearing this country apart.  It's more profitable to maintain a patient and treat them until they die than it is to cure them. So all this possible research is put through the ringer while people die left and right In agony injecting poison into their bodies under the guise of treatment.

I know there's a plan and should work harder at putting my faith in God but when I think about all these things it's so hard.   It's so hard to see what goes on in this world and still believ it's part of a plan.   I haven't been a very good Christian for most of my life but I'm trying now and things like this make me remember why I didn't believe for all those years.  I'm struggling right now and you guys are one step away from strangers to me and it's awkward to write sowmthing like this.  I don't ever push my problems onto others because I feel like that's selfish.  There are a boat load of people in this world that need more than I do. I just needed to vent to someone partially anonymous.

I graduated with 12 people in my class and 7 out of 12 of us have a parent that's dying or has died of cancer.

Powerplant, Driveline, and Braking / Dana 60 issues
« on: July 21, 2015, 02:49:49 PM »
Ok so since I've been driving the F350 for the past few days I've started hearing noises.  Getting a pretty noticeable clunk in the front end mostly when turning.  I pulled over and did some checking. Mostly just grabbing parts and giving it a good shake to see if I could find the culprit.  Everything seems tight but then I grab the u joint. I can jiggle it up and down and side to side. probably around 1/8".  Also can pull it out and push it in about the same. Is that normal?  All things I know would say it isn't but I've never had a truck this old to work on and never had to deal with these issues.

Also how does a man go about checking tie rod ends and ball joints?   The truck is prett darn smooth on the highway hardly any wobbling or anything although to look at the tie rod ends they do look pretty ragged. But all in the steering seems tight.

Yet another reason to drive an older vehicle.

26
Didn't really know the place to put this.  I figured since it could end up being a how-to of sorts that this is where it belongs

So my life in the oil field changes way more often than the normal person and it has recently evolved to the point where my fiancĂ© and the dogs might be moving into a fairly large urban center.   I will be there when I'm not working and when I am working she will be there alone.  I realize this is far far far from ideal in the event of a major incident. But it is what it is and it's an entirely different thread for a how to on how to change a women's mind  ::)

So that being said lets discuss some tactics and ideas for extracting loved ones from a city in the event of a collapse.

For the purposes of this thread assume a large city back east.  Houses packed on top of houses and some streets that are difficult for me to maneuver in my full size truck on a normal day.  And as far as that goes we may as well go worst case scenario. EMP/solar flare/red dawn etc.

You are outside the city and have to get in and get out with your loved ones and sparse belongings.

I've been contemplating this for a month now and here's what I've come up with so far. Two approaches.

One would be a smash and grab.  Dual sport motorcycle to navigate blocked roads and sidewalks limited on capacity but my situation could stuff the small dogs in backpacks and put girl on the back and roll out.  Would be the fastest way but also has a lot of drawbacks.  You're terribly exposed on a motorcycle.  Exposed to everything from gun shots to a random dude stepping out in front of you and knocking you off the bike.  Pros and cons for sure.

Second would be a methodical approach.  Travel at night and keep your head down. Would have to be on foot as even a bicycle would make you stand out.  Advantages for this type is it would be much less exposure. You could hide in buildings and cover of night would be your friend.  Downfalls are time mostly.  To get across a large city that could span 50 miles on foot could possibly take you days in and days to get out.

Any other ideas or comments?

27
So I'm heading to PA tomorrow to pick up the 12 valve donor truck and all my tools.  I'll be able to get my 105gal transfer tank finally for the bed of the Zombie 350.  Some history about the tank.  I bought a utility bed for my 3500 and the tank/toolbox combo came with it.  I never put fuel in it or even took the cap off of it.  I'm wondering if I should attempt to clean it out before I put fuel in it.  What would be the best free way to accomplish that?   I knew a guy who welded a steel tank for his truck and he used water to leak test it and he said it was a big mistake due to constantly having water in his fuel for months. I'm kind of thinking of blowing it out as best I can with air and then just running fuel in it.  I will be using a 12v pump that came with it to transfer fuel when the time comes so I will put a filter on the output side of that to catch any debris.

Thoughts ideas?

28
I haven't had much time to work on the Zombie 350 lately but that hasn't stopped my wheels from turning on ideas.  I'd like to start a discussion in alternative security ideas.

Everyone knows vent window fords are extremely easy to break into.  So I was thinking of ways to secure not only the contents of the truck but also the truck itself.    Obviously it has the factory locks which like most vehicles are easily defeated with a slim Jim or coat hanger. I haven't  figured out a redundant system to supplement the door locks short of bolting a hasp and padlock to the doors lol.  While not aesthetically pleasing would do the job but then they could just break the window to gain access so that is a moot point.

I know that 3M makes a product designed for building windows that makes them less likely to shatter when hit.  This could be an option.

As far as immobilizing the entire vehicle I've thought about putting a simple toggle switch hidden under the dash somewhere to interrupt the ignition wire.  Would work pretty well for a thief in a hurry.  I've also considered a master battery switch in a non conspicuous place to cut power to the entire electrical system.   I'm going to do this one to my truck as it can sit for long periods of time and I can't afford a dead battery when I get back to it.

Any other thoughts on this.

Coffee Induced Early Morning Rant / Net Neutrality rules released

Wow  some healthy 400 page reading on how they plan to police the internet.

Prices going to go up for internet among many many other things to regulate and ensure that only "facts" are  presented on the web.  Who defines the "facts" though?

No wonder it wasn't released to the public before the vote. >:(

Build Threads / Zombie Ford F-350
« on: March 10, 2015, 10:52:32 AM »
I figured I would jump in with both feet and share my ongoing project with you guys.  It's a 94 F-350 Crew cab long box with a 7.3L IDI, and a ZF5 transmission.

A little background on why I chose/was forced to do this build.

I worked pipeline construction for 12 or so years and I was always away from home.  Not just a few hours but usually 1000s of miles.  Ever since I read the book One Second After i always had the thought in my head about an EMP attack.  I know, I know its very unlikely that a scenario such as that would play out but I figured if I could build a vehicle to survive that then it should thrive in lesser threats.

I am also building this because I stopped pipelining a few years ago and moved to south Texas to try my hand at OG oil field work (frac, drilling, etc).  Well as many of you know the price of oil has tanked in the last few months and it has hit us pretty hard.  I've gone from 100+ hours a week, every week to no more than 40 hours a week.  I was barely making it before the cut in my hours due to some stupidity on my part in my previous life, and now with the cut its time to start selling toys and things I really don't need.  Thank the lord I still have a job even if its woefully inadequate currently.

None of that bothers me much because I am selling what I don't need.  I have 4 trucks currently a 2012 Ram 2500 CTD, two 97 Dodges with 12 valves in them, A harley, an 86 CJ7, and various other items.  Who needs all that?  Especially considering that most of it is still spread out over the country, Dodges in PA, Jeep in NE, etc.

OK background is done TL;DR version Im building my F350 to survive all threats short of a direct missile hit and I am doing it on a budget.

My requirements or plans for this truck include.

1) swapping one of the 12 valves into the truck eventually.  I will build it to provide a similar power level as my 2012.  I want reliable power, no twins or anything else that adds complication simple, tough, proven mods.

2) Increase off road capability (not going for rock crawler or mud truck here just make it more capable to navigate tore up    back roads or interstate shoulders that may be packed with people fleeing an incident).

3) Increase reliability i.e. make it darn near bulletproof.

4) Increase range

5) Increase creature comforts and have mobile communications.  I have my ham radio license so I am going to try to incorporate that into my interior build when it comes time for that.

I apologize in advance for how slow this build may have to go and along with that the corresponding updates.  I will do what I can with the budget I have and hopefully some things go my way and I can get it done by the end of the year.  Plus in the next month or so this will become my daily driver so doing anything that causes the truck to be down for more than a few days will have to planned very carefully so I can still get back and forth to work.

Imgur is slow uploading my photos.  I hoped to post some before I go to work but I may have to wait till this evening or tomorrow.
