Title: 911 assistance
Post by: Nate on December 01, 2015, 10:29:10 PM
Here is a thread to where you can reference contacts in a given state if you find yourself in a 911 emergency.  As people post them, i will continue to update this list.  if you feel comfortable to share your number than go ahead, if you only want to be contacted VIA PM on here that is fine as well.  if all else fails, the REALMAN STAFF can make something happen.

You can contact me by PM, as I get alerts on my phone, or text me at two 5 six, eight one zero, 2 niner 88. I don't answer phone calls from numbers I don't recognize, but will read all texts.

Hey, Nate, are you in-charge of this thread/posting/idea/concept???

I mean are you the NCOIC here?

If so then can we figure out a way to make the phone numbers visible only to signed up members?

Oh, and if you weren't in charge, now you are! Congratulations Sarge! (Says da Chief!!!...Isn't this fun!)

james and dave, I got you guys updated.

don, what you are asking for is not possible at this time, because this site is going thru a host and we do not have the authority to re-write their script (software).  in order to accomplish what you are asking, we would have to be our own completely autonomous site with a dedicated code writer.

now, what we can do if folks want to weigh in on this is,

1. I can compile a spread sheet with folks contact info, and it can be shared with folks requesting it and the only info it would contain would be the info that people have given consent to be shared..........?

2.  I can compile a spread sheet with folks contact info, and share specific info of the people being sought as long as I would have their specific consent to do so..........?

3. suggestions / guidance

Well, my first instinct is to fire ya! ;-)

But since what I was asking really can't be done (I didn't know that...After all, I'm just a house wife, remember?) I guess I'll just have to let this one slide...

So, no further action required

I think maybe an emailed copy of the spread sheet or make it available on request    Most of us don't travel to the far reaches of each other's territory but if I were heading somewhere outside of my standard I would view said sheet and keep a contact on hand in case of a 911

JR, I like the way you are thinking. I rarely head out on a trip that I don't have my lap top, no smart phone yet, very old school. We did a cross country trip this year and I had the lap top but fortunately  never needed to ask for assistance. Should have stopped by Don's place but had friends along that...well, are from the Left coast as is my wife...

The emailed lists sounds like a good idea. I strongly considered not adding my phone number, as I've never done that before on a public forum. However, I like this site so much, and the people here from what I can tell, that I wanted to be available of someone really needed me.

Just a thought but Don you could make some sections members only correct? I share longballs concern....I have no worries at all about anyone here just that someone might be able to see it who isnt part of this group.

Maybe someone could be nominated (and I would be willing to just so you know I'm not sitting here saying "someone should do something" w/o offering to help! :) ) to keep a list of all members with contact info. Then if a member needed to get in touch with someone pronto that person could PM them the info. I'd be happy to compile it in a spreadsheet or something and email it around or whatever if that would help. Just a thought as a way to get the info out there w/o making it all public.

Maybe a spreadsheet with user name, real name, address, email, cell # or something. Again, I'd be happy to do it if that would help. And maybe update it periodically (semi-annually or something).

Because we (real man website) go through a host, we dont have access to change functions such as what has been talked about.

I have started to put together a spread sheet as we have talked about above, i am just waiting so others have a chance to weight in with their thoughts before we move forward and have to change things 2-3 times.

I think members only is the way to go for sure. Seeing that there are 2-3 times as many viewers as members online who are anyone or even a robot scanning. Plus numbers should only be available when requested since PM and email is on most phones anyway, so the request can always come in.
Title: Re: 911 assistance
Post by: Flyin6 on December 06, 2016, 10:24:44 AM
Well, I think we can do it this way

Those who feel comfortable with sharing their information, are free to do so

Nate will be in charge of this

When someone would like some flight following, they should know about this section simply from hanging around on the site.

That person can post up a note requesting flight following and Nate will pick it up and PM them to get it done. He will coordinate with whichever of you boneheads out there in the "merica he feels can do the coverage, and you, said bonehead, will answer the call with a snappy salute and a cheerful, "Yes Sir."

OK decision made, next subject...

Good work Menses!

I don't have a problem having my info relayed to members of this group. My 4wd club has forum, with a private member only section where we posted member list contact info (spreadsheet attached in the topic), that worked well. I don't think that'll work here, though, if the capability of a member only section is not present.

Looks like the wife decided against the trip, relieved yeah, sad I can't let her be there with the fam, but looks like it best served she take some personal time and reflect instead of mad dash off on a trip we are not prepped for. Life lessons! Be prepared!!

Not sure she would be received with open arms from the family. I think she would be out there alone and flying with twins seems just as bad as the drive

Nate, back to the origins of the thread

911 info

Are you updating the first post as people sing on to help others?

I really like what you did, adding a state by state list, and would like to see that first post to remain as the base reference, just wondering if you edit it from time to time???

Great job my friend!

I do edit it when new folks post or folks ask for their info to be updated with new stuff.

North Alabama/Tennessee Valley
I get alerts on my phone so a PM here will work, or (256) 804-5303. I'm hit or miss on phone calls because of work so a text is usually best.
