Title: Garage Shelves and Workbench (pic heavy)
Post by: Dawg25385 on January 13, 2016, 11:13:46 PM
Hey all,

Finally got internet set up here at the house, so thought i'd upload some photos of a recent project. Trying to get the garage organized, so I built some shelves and a workbench. Shelves are pretty big, 12' long, 2' deep. Built out of 2x4's and plywood. They're lagged into the wall studs, and the plywood is glued and nailed off with ring shanks... not goin anywhere. Wife is happy, she's got space for all her bins of decorations and other stuff. I got a couple spots for tools, screws, etc.

Didn't get as many pics of the bench in progress... wife was taking a nap. It's 2x4's 12" OC, with a 4x4 corner post. Post was framed in for extra strength. Again, lagged into the wall, and lagged to the post. Top is 3/4" sanded ply, glued and screwed to the base. Very sturdy...

Got this new toolbox for my birthday. So far I really like it.

And it fits in nicely with the bench I made, with the steel cabinets I already had

Fun times!

At first I thought those shelves were bunk beds at the lease I've hunted at. So where do the vehicles fit?

Always liked custom shelves. They fit where you want and are cheaper to build!

That looks great.  Storage is important, as we all know stuff multiplies.

Good Golly Miss Molly!

She sure filled those up fast!

They lasted, what...30 minutes? :o

BTW youthful married guy...It never gets any better!

Know why I have a really big house?

Because I need a small space to "Live" in...

Think about it.... ;)

Nice looking shelves and bench.  I need to build something like that in the basement.

They were filled before the glue was dry, i can say that with certainty. But i knew they would be... The shelves were really built to accomodate the size of all that stuff, which was stacked up waiting for a home. 24" tall for the bottom shelf (for coolers mainly), and then 18" thereafter for all those rubbermaid bins.

She can't wait till the shop is built and all of my stuff is out of the garage so she can rat-hole more Christmas/thanksgiving/Easter/etc decorations.

Lord help me if she tries to take over the shop too LOL

No kidding!

And just to make sure you are clear on this point, wife beating, burning, and the like is illegal unless you are Muslim living in some Islamic Republic somewhere!

'Third bay is two deep!'
That is serious garage.
Looks great, can never have enough shelves.
My HH6 has been in purge more of late, so I'm amassing a collection of empty tubs at the moment!

Need to get some heat in there tho. Think I'm going to do a ceiling mounted electric unit. Walls and garage doors are insulated so it won't take much

That is a nice size garage! ....and going to have a future shop to boot. Very nice.

I can almost remember when my tool box was that clean.

Thats a small home in some places.

We lived with my sister in her 1000 sq ft house before and during construction of our house. I know about it  ;D

My current home started at 1150, then I added 500 (turned that into living-dinning). Then I had a garage fire in 06 and rebuilt the 2 car to a 3 car with a 2nd floor that is now a man cave (16x22 center room with storage on both sides). However I built that with the idea of adding a room behind it (12x14) over the house so all the kids can have their own rooms.

With those added we get another 500 sf or so plus a 1/2 bath. 2250 sf with 4 rooms and 2.5 baths. Kids all have their own rooms, wife gets a new kitchen and walk in closet and a new master bath to boot. Good thing I am retired!

We had 5 people in a 1300sq ft apartment for a few months this past year. Was glad to move on, if it was just me it wouldn't have been an issue but add in the dog and it was no fun........

I have shelving like that in my garage too - was here when we bought it :)  I just had to build a workbench.

I have the same Husky 52" toolbox and the iHome (but it is in the bedroom).

I hate you :-P  Only way my truck fits is diagonally when the garage is practically empty.

I really like the tool box so far. Dang thing is filled already. I'm happy with it tho. It's not a 4K snap-on, but that's not what I was expecting either

I'm happy with it too. The stainless toolbox at Costco feels cheap to me and the drawer rack back and forth. This one does a bit too but nowhere near as bad. :)

I have an older Torin box I got at costco sometime back. Solid as a rock. What about the HF boxes? They get good reviews and Don likes his.

And since you mentioned it, my boxes are still 100%. I have had zero problems out of them. I plan to purchase more for the farm

Sure you have enough "W" stickers on your totes?!?  I would agree with you, but unfortunately you picked the wrong "W"!!!  :)

Also I have the 48" US General (harbor freight) tool box and have been really happy with it.  Other than a few scratches that came on it from the factory, their quality control is not super great.  But it seems durable enough and the drawer slides are still nice and tight even with a lot of weight in some of the drawers.

kyle, your is correct!  if you want to hang it long ways, you would turn it 90 deg clockwise.
