Might need to check to see if the tires are dry rotted

You say that jokingly...

But given that these are old school (Read: Old) Armee tires that were likely sitting on a vehicle for a long time, then the several years I have had them, I'm sure they have outgrown their service life.

That's around 7 years for most tires made for the private sector.

These tires, however are marked "Military"

So I am hopefully wondering if perhaps, given the nature of how we tend to store things in the Military, if the formulation of that rubber has some ground up watch material that extends the rubber's life span?

Doze we have any knowledges about such things???

How about U, Turner. You're military intelligence...Any secret stuff goin' on in these tires???

I got nothing other than they ride like a steel turd! Being that they have basically sat for what seems to be a lifetime underneath of a non moving pile of steel, I'm wondering if they now have flat spots.

Time will tell, and ken's tires he posted up there that he has had laying around in the AZ sun since H began her campaign 27 years ago sure shows positive possibilities of decent tires.

I didn't have any other reasonable time reference.....

On serious note, what's the date code on those tires? Now that I think about it, if you've had them since pre 99 they may not have a code, I feel like that is when tire manufacturers were mandated to start printing it on the tire.

Why does everything now somehow relate to hildabeast?

"Yea, I bought that thar truck when Hillary was still yellin' at state troopers over in Arkansas"

That tire has weathered the arizona sun better than Hillary's face

"I married your mother back when Bill was in office and america thought Hillary was a beautiful woman...ah those were the days."

"four score and since hillary left office, ago...

"Halley's comet comes around once every time hillary grew to a baby until being sent to prison"

^^^ Actually I was just day dreamin' havin' some happy thoughts.

You know Don, in museums when stuff sits for extended periods of time, they tend to roll the stuff around on occasion to keep the tires round.

A Koot sighting??  Omg.

Don most of the issues with tires are uv exposure. Since you were indoors it should be ok

Stop buying parts until it’s running. Jus saying. A lack of parts has not been the problem. :tongue

Well, not much exciting news to report just yet.

Mike confirms that the truck is in the shop and next, but no work is completed at this point. He had a shop full when I showed up, so its understandable.

He thinks that timing is the problem, like all of you have said, and his stated goal is to have the truck running by the end of the week. Time will tell if he meets his goal.

I am sure when he gets the correct fuel pressure and replaces the injection pump it will run fine. Although you may then have to0 large a turbo for a stockish pump=P

ON a diff note per our conversation the other day... I am considering building a 4 link front for my next Dodge. Because you made me give me an idea=)

Eh, lets stop with the negative vibes, man (My Kelly's heros interpretation).

And we were talking about a radius arm suspension mit der 7" 94-98 springs.

And just so everyone else is clued in here, Norm suggests as soon as I get it running, before the brakes or transmission dial in, I rip off the front leaf spring thing and build a radius arm coil spring setup for the truck...just to be clear...;=)

Yes! Because this something I have talked about maybe one day doing to our old dodge.

I must clarify...I suggested to Don that he should wait tell its runs, drive it home, then start swapping

I was considering for my next Dodge a full on 4 link/coil over setup. What will probably happen is I will use some free leaf springs I found somewhere, and weld em to the frame LoL

Tell you what, that boy's smart and sharper than a finely honed log!

I am pretty powerless to his subtle button pushin'. He knows all mine. Like how to get me all fired up to do something. He will ease in to the subject with the correct bait then as I start to get pulled in, he adds on just enough tinder to get me to set myself on fire. I don't like that about him...Or maybe it's that I don't like that about me, dunno.

But a bunch of years ago I spent just short of $3K from WFO on a radius arm kit to turn my Silvy into a Dana 60 wearing SAS converted truck. Since I lacked the courage to actually do it, that stuff has been a spider housing complex for nearly a half dozen years.

So, I was asking Norm which leaf spring I needed to source to stop the sag in SquareD's front end and he goes off on an hour long post graduate level thing about brake dive, death wobble, brake steer, good n' bad rides and basically what I got out of all that is you can't get here from there.
Then I start drivin' nails in my coffin, "Well heck, Norm, I have that radius arm kit just sitting here collecting rust and spiders, what about that. Next thing I know he wants me to use that super-duper Ford left drop HPD60 Ford axle, some 205 transfer case from a sherman tank or something like that, some adapter with 23 splines from the voyager 1 spacecraft program, and a host of other things which are about as commonly found as the Ark of the covenant.
After that we were talkin' about some Indian culture and I had to visit the john and some employee of his had just broken something expensive and it all ended. I checked that call's length...1:37. No not a minute and 37 seconds. More like a day + 37 hours

Thanks Norm (Bonehead) now I'm tryin my best to get spider-bit looking and sortin' through parts which have long ago fused themselves together in rust.

What I feel will happen.... the roll back will deliver Square D the beginning of this next week. Don will devote a day to setting the stage that will rival the moon landing photo op..Don will have tools placed in all the right areas.... then show us a video of Square D starting and exiting the garage under its own power. Rolling backwards to some properly placed wooden blocks to stop it from going too far (no brakes)

This video will then become a triumph of man over the trepidation of machine. Vegas will make book on the next phase, men across the world will begin oil changes in their own garages, and we will have a new Christmas story to tell our kids.

So is Norm saying the moon landing was BS or did I just read way too much into that story? Then if he is would that mean that the mechanics won’t be fixing SQ D as well?

Once it’s running under its own power, Don will need to drive to each of our homes to showcase this triumph of biblical proportions.....ok, at least a biblical proportion of TIME!  Norm and Nate will then involve Don in the homemade smoker version of the “great candy bar fire”!

You have to wonder how far this place is from his house, he said he was driving over to check.  That was 7 hours ago!!  Should I call out the national guard!?!?  He might be stuck in a mulch bed somewhere in Northern Kentucky.  Oh the horror!!!!! (Insert wailing here)

No he doesn't

Just felt a tremor in the force!

OK, so it's running. No vid to prove it, but the motor runs, just not all that great at the moment.

Its timing, and its not dialed in by any means

What they think happened is that when Wayne and I timed the motor last winter, we probably had it right but then the pump probably slipped on the gear while the collet was loose. So, essentially, the timing went away, and no one knows where in the heck it is.

Mike said it sounds very advanced, and I have always thought it acted liked a carbed gasser with way too much timing, like you missed a tooth on the distributor after a cam change.

He says the motor sounds good, and that it will run and run well.

He is questioning the dual fuel line inlet and talked to me about removing the front hose and simplifying everything. He thinks it may actually be over fueling.

So next is to set the timing, then fix the brakes, get the transmission sorted and follow on tuning

Mike thinks he will have it all figured out and back to me before the first of the year
