Prognosis?
Permanent no run profile for now, working on getting that lifted so they will take me to flight school.  Looking pretty good as of right now...definitely an improvement over pre-surgery.

I personally carry IWB on my right hip.  I can do it with just an open shirt over a t shirt, even with a G19.  Crossbreed makes some great holsters.

Well according to the regs, that just ain't true.  It's amazing how much weight one gains when one is in a walking boot for 4 months after surgery and is now allowed to finally run 9 months after...

What did you have removed?
That desire to join my old alma mater? ;-)
Nah...still got that bug.  Got a bunch of cartilage, tendons, and ligaments repaired in my ankle.  Messed it up bad a bunch of years ago and finally got it repaired!

Ok...here we go...

Get tiny computer.  Plug thumb drive into tiny computer.  Download SD card from camera to tiny computer.  You (or someone else who can do programming) can write code to automatically do it for you.

The problem I find with tablets is you have to jailbreak them to be able to add a lot of non-approved apps.  Also, they do not have USB ports, or integratation of a lot of the other stuff a typical computer has.

The fact that I can plug in a thumb drive and potentially install EFILive and then connect the FlashScan directly to the board is a much better idea to me than figuring out how to make it work with a tablet.

I have thought of seeing if I can use it to run my EFILive and turn it into an overpowered code reader with an integrated 7" touch screen.

As far as uses, I used an Arduino board (similar tech, just lower capability) and a very easy program I wrote to integrate a pressure sensor into my walking boot.  I had surgery 3 weeks ago to repair some torn ligaments and other damage in my right ankle, so I built a small unit to flash an LED at me if I put any weight on my heel.  Takes up less space than an Altoids tin, and with a little bit of slack, ai can velcro it right to the top of my boot.

I suppose you could use a Raspberry Pi micro computer running a modified Linux OS.  The board has Wi-Fi, so you could use the eyeFi card or a USB connection to the board.  Once on the board, connect it to an external hard drive or a thumb drive, since the onboard micro SD can only handle 32 GB.

Anyone do any tinkering with Raspberry Pi?  I am thinking about integrating it into my LML I picked up in September. The possibilities with it are just about endless.

For those of you who don't have any idea what I am talking about, think of a computer roughly the size of a pack of smokes.  The new boards come with a wired Ethernet port, Wi-Fi, 4x USB ports, and HDMI header for display out, and it is all powered through a micro USB port that can be run at 5V, minimum 2A.

If I leave the house, I'm carrying.  Often, I am carrying around the house.  I don't de-gun just because I got home.  If I am in my garage, I bring a gun in with me and it's on the toolbox.

Tennessee has very strict laws on how to label no firearms areas, and as a law abiding citizen, I obey the laws that are enforcable and not in violation of my rights.

So I forgot to update, but the job is complete.

Over $1700 in parts later, I have replaced 2x upper and 2x lower control arms, wheel bearings, steering stabilizer, bump stops on both sides, found a broken shock on the driver's side, and a torn CV boot on the passenger side and traded out the worn-out Cognito tie rods for some Rare Parts.  At this point, since I replaced the steering and idler arms a few years back, I think I have replaced just about everything except the driver's side CV axle.

And it only took 9 days from start to finish.

Well I will look at the Rare Parts if Cognito doesn't replace these ones under warranty.

Well it's that time...

Gotta replace most of the front end, upper/lower control arm bushings, sway bar end links, passenger side ball joints, etc.  I am waiting to hear back from Cognito on warranty replacements for the HD tie rods I installed...they seem to be shot too.

I replaced the driver side ball joints a few months ago, but I will have to re-press out the lower, since it appears I put the grease fitting in the wrong place.  I am considering just getting the Duralast setups...99 for uppers and 103 for lowers with a limited lifetime warranty.  Anyone had any experience?

While I am in there, I figure at just shy of 150k is a good time to replace the wheel bearings.  Good time or are they still good for a while?

JP8 is no longer used by the military, everything has changed over to F24.  Similar, but a slightly higher freezing point (7 degrees if I remember correctly).  Storage life on F24 with no additives, straight out of the fuel farm to the HEMMT to the end vehicle is I believe 5 years.  I am not 100% sure on that anymore; it has been almost 18 months since I had any direct hands on contact with fueling operations.

Gents,

Figured I would post up a list of comapnies that I worked with over the last month, and go over the good and bad ones that I had to work with.  I will try to keep some sort of logical order, but no promises.

Good ones:

Penske
-Military rates, well maintained trucks, modern equipment, no outrageous or hidden fees, and they price match their competitors.

Fuller Towing, Canton, TX:
-Even when they were super busy doing heavy CL8 hauls, they were able to get my truck off I-20 and to the shop I requested in less than 3 hours, while keeping us in the loop and taking my trailer with them.  Handled my equipment safely and professionally with very reasonable rates. More to follow on that chaos.

Wills Point Automotive and Wills Point Chevrolet (separate businesses), Wills Point, TX:
-So here's the story.  Driving along on I-20 the left rear tire decided to fall off the truck.  Complete separation.  Yes, through PCIs were conducted prior to movement.  Looks like the shop that installed the tires stripped the studs.  Anyway, truck and trailer (somewhere around 16,800 GVW) come to a stop on the side of the interstate, and Fuller got the call.  Meanwhile, I start calling dealerships to try and get us back rolling.  Call Wills Point Chevrolet, they refer me to the shop next door.  The guys at Wills Point Automotive dropped everything they were working on (and they had a full shop) to work on my rig.  They ended up putting on a new rotor and 8 new studs on it.  Parking brake is still on the 026 (military deadline report), but it rolls.  The dealership gave them the studs, even though the only ones they had were marked for another truck in their shop.  All said and done, they got me back on the road 6 hours from point of failure to back rolling without playing funny business with the accounting.  They really saved my ass in a tight spot.

Stack-On
-Once I got to GA, my electronic keypad on my gun safe wouldn't unlock the box anymore.  Manual override still worked, so I called Stack-On, and spent less than 10 minutes on the phone total and a new solenoid was on its way.

Bads:

Comcast...goes without much explaination.  They suck.

GA water utilities
- We rolled in late afternoon, father in law made it to the new place first.  He discovered we didn't have water and the meter was locked.  We called the water people, and were told there was nothing anyone could do, even with a 3 month old in the house they could not turn on the water until we came down in person and filled out all their paperwork, and they might be able to get someone out that day.  If it wasnt done by 1700, sorry.  Too bad, so sad.  We were still 2 hours outside of their offices, and it was 1600.  Oh well.  Went over at 0830 the next day and started the account, their guy did not show until 1650 to turn on the meter.

AT&T corporate customer service
-Phone dies, they tell me to go to the store.  Once at the store, the store can't see the same system they can, call back corporate.  They then tell me that they don't know why I was told to go to the store, since I can't get a new phone til March.  Local manager saved the day after an hour on the phone and overrides their system.

I don't wanna PCS again in June.  Dammit.

I have been getting this CEL as of late. Cleared it a few times, but no good.

Time for a set. Any brand not to get? I found some KBDP on ebay for $55. Any brand name is 15+ each.
I always run Bosch.  Ran them in a couple of old Mercedes we had (83 & 85...ran like tanks) and always had good luck.  I would rather spend the money and do it far less often than buying cheaper and having to redo it.

I'd say take a quick TDY trip to Detroit.

Go into some shady eating establishment, well, just walk toward one and say "This is my hood now," or "white boys rule" or something like that.

Then evaluate the weapon's performance in the after-actions review.

So there I was, getting myself a bite to eat at a quick stop type sit down establishment, stayed for about 40 minutes, and the entire time my loaded G19 simply stayed in its holster.  Didn't even shoot anyone!

Do I need to take it to a gunsmith?
