Whoops...finally re-appeared here, at Campbell now as a staff puke S-6.
Work these days has me considering trading in my bars for dots and heading to Mother Rucker though...

You wouldn't believe how many majors and LTC's who used to tell me the same thing. Some actually did. Nasty guard is easier to do that. So many of the warrants there used to be Captains. Gotta tell ya, in the majority of the Army today (Not so much in spec ops) it is hard to stay near the troops, which is the reason real leaders want to serve. Staff what? No, give me an objective and I'll move out smartly
I didn't opt for W5 for that reason. I had finagled a Company SIP position as a senior W4. I should have been beyond Battalion, likely up in brigade somewhere, but I was still leading assaults in my last days. But the CW5 promotion was coming with a move to Rucker to the Chinook SIP for the entire US Army. That's a desk which I'd never leave. I opted out...
Then God smiled on me. Flew commercial airliners for a spell (Boring) but when the wars started, why they needed experienced combat pilots once again, and guess what???
That's my story. I could have been a Colonel, but getting there with all the politics and staff jobs, no thanks senor' I wanted troop time and trigger time, and an opportunity to populate hell with the enemies of this nation, and, well, let's just say I had a good run of it...
Troop time my friend...Or contact me privately someday...
